Playbook is selling for $299 too.
Too bad they don't have 3G and GPS/digital compass.
Would be more tempted despite lack of apps.

Holy crap I cannot wait for this phone...half a stiffy at this point. It simply better be a Verizon exclusive since they didn't get the Galaxy SII.

It's coming, and it's f*cking awesome. Seriously Verizon, lets get with it and get this thing out in the next few days/weeks aight? Seriously cannot wait. Anyone on Verizon who's looking for a smartphone needs to get this phone, it's that simple. The new software just destroys the last iteration of Android and the hardware is pretty sweet too. Full 720p HD screens are where it's at!

Was supposed to be the 9th, but got delayed for some reason. They are in verizon stores now, and other retailers, but haven't been authorized for release yet. Hopefully this week.XXXIV wrote:dbdynsty25 wrote:http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/17/2568 ... xus-review

Is it much better than an S2?
Is T-Mobile going to get the ugly At&T treatment soon?

Re: OT:Smart Phones
34,
From a hardware perspective, the Galaxy SII is a better device, strictly because of the camera quality. Verizon does not have a Galaxy SII tho, so the Nexus is the next best thing. All of the internals are the same, memory, ram, processor, but the camera is slightly better from a pic quality standpoint. The camera is faster on the Nexus, but not quite the same quality from all accounts. So if a camera isn't a HUGE deal, then Nexus is where it's at for one main reason...software. The latest and greatest Android software, Ice Cream Sandwich which is ONLY available on the Nexus phone.
Now, you mention AT&T and T-Mobile...I thought you were on one of those? If yes, you can always import the GSM version as it's not available in the states from any carriers. You can get it at expansys-usa.com or newegg.com but it'll cost you a cool 700 bucks.
If you're able to leave the GSM carriers, then time to go to Verizon cuz their 4G network is ridiculously good and they have the best all-around Android based phone.
Here are the Nexus press shots...so pretty:

Galaxy Nexus acquired...ridiculously awesome phone in person. If anyone is eligible for an upgrade (and on Verizon), I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're on At&t or T-Mobile...there is a GSM version you import if you'd like, but it'll cost ya.

Here's a good overview:Spooky wrote:What does the new OS bring to the table?

Basically a full revamp of the software...it's a lot more functional now, even though it was already more functional than that "other" OS.

Word !Darkbandit wrote:And tomorrow DB will bring it back or sell it because the newness has worn off :p
DB only keeps Cowon or anything that connects to the Cowon.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
He sold me on the Zune HD and bailed and I am still happy with it so if he bails on an ice cream sandwich after I buy one, Im sure I will be okay....If the advice he gives is sound, who cares what he owns or buys next?Rodster wrote:Word !Darkbandit wrote:And tomorrow DB will bring it back or sell it because the newness has worn off :p

Still have a zune hd...how dare you! Re: OT:Smart Phones
There are times where I prefer the clean sound of the Zune HD over the Cowon. If the Zune HD had EQ settings it would be a tough call between the Z-HD and Cowon. The Zune HD definitely gets the nod for a slick UI.XXXIV wrote:He sold me on the Zune HD and bailed and I am still happy with it

Re: OT:Smart Phones
DB do you find the screen to be too wide on the phone? Reason I ask is because I have been asking my customers who purchased it how they like it and they all say that its a excellent phone, however the screen could be taller instead of wider. Also do you seem to have any problems with some of the apps not scaling correctly due to the screen size, because on the Rezound and RAZR, sometimes the app will not take up the full screen.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
I find it a little big overall just because I've got tiny little girl hands. I'm coming from a 4" Droid Incredible 2 daily driver, so it's quite a step up. Had I come from the Droid X or something like that it would have been perfectly fine, in fact it's quite a bit thinner than any other phone on Verizon sans the Razr, so it's perfect as far as I'm concerned. I'll deal with a bigger footprint when I get a 1280x720 screen. The phone definitely isn't too wide when it is sitting next to the Razr tho...that thing is a beast. The bezel is much too big around the screen, but I'm sure they had to do that to keep the thing so thin. The pancake method of engineering in full effect.Darkbandit wrote:DB do you find the screen to be too wide on the phone? I have yet to find any apps that don't scale correctly. The only disappointment in that regard so far is the regular media player and youtube will play movies/videos on the full 4.65" screen, and hiding the software navigation buttons, whereas Hulu Plus leaves the buttons visible which makes the screen essentially a 4.3" screen. Kind of annoying but I'd imagine that will get updated soon since Android 4.0 is so new.

Re: OT:Smart Phones
Db,
Any news on when the Galaxy S II's wil get an ICS?
Got some co-workers that have them and asked me.
Nice looking phones BTW. If only my iPhone had had screen size, i'd be in heaven.
Oh, and does ATT already have ICS phones?

Re: OT:Smart Phones
ICS has already been ported to some Galaxy SIIs, but obviously in hacked form. We should start seeing official builds in the next month or two from the companies like Samsung/Motorola/HTC/LG/etc. Gonna take a little time, which is why I definitely wanted the Nexus. First in line for every update!
As for it being on At&t...not officially. You can buy the GSM version from sites like newegg.com and expansysusa.com and import it...but it'll cost you around $700 bucks. It'll work on both At&t and T-Mobile.
Yesterday there was an announcement that At&t would be getting the Nexus in 60 days (the Verizon exclusive window). Right now Verizon is the only stateside company with an official ICS phone. So if you need At&t...sit tight for a couple months. It's coming. But by then, CES will have happened (early January) and we'll know what's on the horizon for the "next" round of phones. Galaxy SIII to be specific.
Always something coming!
