Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Apparently Grant Hill chooses comfort over winning a ring...staying in Phoenix for one year, 6.5 mil. Guess he and Nash will ride off into the sunset together since they both only have one year left. Either that or he signed with Phoenix so that he and Nash can be traded together as a package deal (which really wouldn't surprise me AT ALL).
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Maybe Phoenix can get Rondo back. Boston looks like they'll have to move him, and renting Nash for a year would work. Do you want Jeff Green or Big Baby as sweetener?
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Just as I post it looks like Big Baby is going to Orlando for Brandon Bass.

The Jazz signed Goodrich as a free agent, but league rules at the time said they had to give compensation for signing a veteran free agent. New Orleans gave up the first round picks in 77, 78, and 79 for him. Sad thing is that Goodrich was retired before the 1979 NBA Draft! It's amazing how small market clubs just feed the Lakers key players to build them championships. I think the old New Orleans Jazz gave the Lakers the pick which turned out to be Magic for a now long forgotten Gail Goodrich.

Howard's agreed to go to the Nets, but maybe not going to happen due to tampering.
What's not to stop the Nets in trading him to the Lakers? Can Stern stop that too?

Not sure where you heard that, but the nets are about to sign Nene for a grip:Lancer wrote:Howard's agreed to go to the Nets, but maybe not going to happen due to tampering.

Seems to me that would take them out of the running, unless Brook Lopez is included in the deal to Orlando. Way too many centers in NJ/Brooklyn.

I crack up reading the Pacers are involved in the Nene talks. If Nene wants to play in the bright lights for a contending franchise, Indianapolis is the wrong spot.
Indy is the biggest small town in America.

Interesting read on the aftershocks of the owners blocking the Chris Paul deal in this piece at Grantland:

Yup, this sums it up perfectly:pk500 wrote:Interesting read on the aftershocks of the owners blocking the Chris Paul deal in this piece at Grantland:

"In Boston, Rajon Rondo is furious. In New Orleans, Chris Paul is shell-shocked. In Orlando, Dwight Howard is anxious. In Los Angeles, Blake Griffin is pining for help and Lamar Odom is breaking down on those same sports talk radio shows because he's tired of being jerked around. In the Bay Area, Stephen Curry is sick of the rumors. On paper, this isn't too much different from most free-agency periods, but this wasn't your average NBA summer and these aren't your old NBA players. We will have basketball. But with disgruntled players on nearly every team — who, by the way, all think they're making less than they deserve and will be exhausted after playing a compressed schedule — we might be headed toward a different sort of nuclear winter." Nice one owners!

Seriously, is there a bigger group of ownership dickheads in sports? At least the MLB is content to maintain a separate-but-equal facade between the big and small clubs. 75% of the NBA owners are not only horribly inept, but whiny, passive-aggressive, and vindictive. It's FAN-TASTIC!
I'm really ready for hoops to start so that the offseason talk can stop.

Love it that the Sixers got Thad back. He is so versatile...can guard the 2, 3 & 4.

Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
From Dan Gilbert's email:
"Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing."
So what he's saying is 'if you approve the deal, the lakers go under the cap & us sh*t teams don't get some of that Lakers money.' What a scumbag (I never use that word!!). Exactly why do the Lakers have stay OVER the cap???

Cuz the Lakers paid for those championships.
They can afford it, they got a $1 billion TV deal.

Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Pretty sure the main issue Gilbert and the rest of the owners have is that not only do they not get the luxury tax money...the Hornets payroll goes up which means they have to pay since the owners all own a piece of them. They are paying the bills in New Orleans so they are allowed to complain as far as I'm concerned.
My issue is that Stern said they vetoed it because of basketball reasons which is obviously bullshit. It's always about money.

Dan Gilbert is really making a push to be the most idiotic owner in the NBA. Lookout Donald Sterling! He should just sell the team if he's so miserable.

David West to my Celtics.
If he's healthy, he could be one of the most underated pick ups of the off-season.

Brandon Bass was an upgrade on Big Baby! West is in a different class.

I think Bill Simmons said this earlier in the week, but EVERY sport's 'free agency period' needs to be changed to 10 days. great stuff.

Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
What do you guys think of the Heat signing Eddy Curry and Shane Battier?
Re: NBA Season 2011-12 Thread
Eddy Curry?
He just congests the lane when you have those great wing players. Just gets in the way more than anything else. Guess he's a big body and if he could eat up some minutes and provide scoring, that could give the Big 3 some rest.
But Miami needs rebounding and defense from a 5 more than anything else and Curry isn't a big effort guy.
Battier is a good perimeter defense and a good spot-up shooter.

Curry was washed up three seasons ago. He's done.Rodster wrote:What do you guys think of the Heat signing Eddy Curry and Shane Battier?
Battier is a good role-player but I'm not sure he necessarily makes the Heat much better than they were last year.
