As far as Albert goes,I do hope you Cards fans get him back. Certain guys belong in one uniform, and if the Cards give him 10 yrs, so be it. As Jim Bowden aptly put it on Xm radio today, St Louis has to look at the last 3 yrs of his contract as deferred payment for the first 3 yrs they got before arbitration, that they got MVP numbers out of him with a rookie contract. Makes sense to me.

All things equal with money and years (and sometimes for less)...no one wants to live in the midwest. Lebron and Albert know this.

Good lord...CJ Wilson to the Angels too. Lots of money being spent on the coasts...that's for damn sure.

Re: MLB Baseball : Offseason 2012
All things weren't equal. The Angel's offer was insane. Like I've said numerous times. I don't care what STL pays. I want the Cards to win right now, but for STL to go over the top of the Angels offer would have had me scratching my head.dbdynsty25 wrote:All things equal with money and years (and sometimes for less)...no one wants to live in the midwest. The Angels press conference should be something. Can't wait!
At least if he went to the Cubs, that would be interesting. The Angels are like a room-temperature glass of water...

Albert Pujols going to Anaheim is the reason why the NFL is and will be the top sport in America for another 10-20 years.
What a joke deals like this turn baseball into.

Sorry to see him go, but for that amount of money and years, I'm happy Cardinals ownership didn't fork out that kind of dough!
Re: MLB Baseball : Offseason 2012
Angels will still finish behind the Rangers and miss the playoffs. Typical Angels move. Reminds me of when they signed Reggie Jackson when he was past his prime.

This is Anaheim's payback for STL taking the Rams...
All my STL friends are just spewing venom at Albert on my FB page. I get it, but I don't want to see (some) Cardinal fans turn into a clone of (some) Cavs fans. Please, please, please don't let me see idiots burning Pujols jerseys in Soulard tonight on Sportscenter. Stay classy Redbirds!

-No way he'll go anywhere...not worried
-He'll resign, he's a hometown guy, he loves it here, he's the face of the franchise
-He's getting interest from a bunch of teams, but still, not worried
-He's accepted an offer for a different team than the one I root for
-F*ck him...good riddance
And there are a ton of people who want to live in california...you see those population charts lately?
Re: MLB Baseball : Offseason 2012
If you listened to Albert this year, anyone with commen sense would have said he would stay here. I'm not mad one bit, I am glad he's going to the AL, but yes.. good riddance. He is the greatest player I've ever seen play, I doubt that will ever change - but at least come out and say, it's all about the $$$.dbdynsty25 wrote:

I guess since he's in the AL, in his latter years he can DH, maybe that's what made him take the deal vs the NL teams.
I think it's different then LeBron since Albert has 2 WS titles in STL when he left. LeBron had nothing, but hope.

The NFL is the top sport in America because of gambling, with fantasy football close behind.JRod wrote:Albert Pujols going to Anaheim is the reason why the NFL is and will be the top sport in America for another 10-20 years.

But anyways, outside of maybe the cities that felt jilted by a star leaving, it sure seems to me that fans enjoy free agency, Hot Stove talk, "The Decision", etc.
It's a nice story when a player stays on a team, but people are coming to realize this is all business, plain and simple.
Re: MLB Baseball : Offseason 2012
The difference between Pujols and LeBron is that Pujols delivered two championships.
It amazes me when sports fans forget this is a business.

I wouldn't use the word "upset" but I've always said 8 years - even though that's a bit much - would be tops for me.AJColossal wrote:

He's a great fit in the AL with the DH. I just hope the Cardinals put some of the Pujols money to good use.

I wonder what Fielder is going to get?

Define business? (most money wins?)Brando70 wrote:The difference between Pujols and LeBron is that Pujols delivered two championships.

All along Pujols has said he wants better players around him to help the team win a World Series. He wants to retire a Cardinal, he loves St. Louis, etc.. So I just wish players would say, "Hey, I'm taking the offer that gives me the most money". I'm fine with that.
As a non-professional athlete.. it blows my mind that 10 year/$220 contract isn't enough to keep someone where they say they want to play the rest of their career? I understand adding another $34+ million sealed the deal, but don't feed me BS.
Re: MLB Baseball : Offseason 2012
Agreed. Arte Moreno is a huge hypocrite, remember what he said about the Red Sox when they took Carl Crawford last year, if you don't let me refresh your memory:sportdan30 wrote:Sorry to see him go, but for that amount of money and years, I'm happy Cardinals ownership didn't fork out that kind of dough!
"It's crazy," Moreno said at the time. "I paid $183 million for the team in 2003, and now we're talking $142 million for one player? Seven years is a huge risk financially." On Thursday, Moreno spent $325 million on two players, Pujols and free-agent pitcher C.J. Wilson.
Bernie Mikalsz says exactly how I feel in his poignant article: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/ ... z1fzW9vzon
I will miss Albert no question, but a deal like this would have crippled the Cardinals for years to come. The Angels will find this out in due time.
And it could have been worse, at least Albert's not a Cub or even in the same league. Thank you Albert Pujols for the best time of your career and the two championships!

The NFL is the top sport in America because it's football. Fast, exciting and physical, with plenty of parity. Appeals to all ages. Baseball doesn't tick all of those boxes.AJColossal wrote:The NFL is the top sport in America because of gambling, with fantasy football close behind.
