The resumption of the NBA has made my day. GO KNICKS!
Just played a game between the Knicks (me) vs. the Wizards. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun it was to play with the Knickerbockers! Definitely going to use them again. This game is amazing, and it's my sports game of the year. Smooth game play and incredible presentation adds up to a tremendous gaming experience.

There's room for a St. Louisan on the Knickwagon, Dan! :)

I know it's not the 2k12 impressions thread, but what major differences do you see between 2k11 and 2k12? Well other than the legends stuff.

PK - i checked out your avatar, is that you or Ghandi?

Well, that's about as close as I could get. I'm not completely bald -- just a chrome dome to the top of my skull with stubble everywhere else. Wrinkled forehead, and those glasses were the closest I could find to what I wear.

Might not keep up with the flash factor of some of the others, but the arcade racing is fun and the AI can be challenging. Also has a slew of stupid, and/or stupidly fun minigames! Should be able to grab it really cheap now. Adam and I actually managed a few online multiplayer races with this one too, and they were quite fun!
Flatout is a really fun arcade racer. Although the AI is pretty tough and if you mess up even once, you can kiss the gold goodbye.

I didn't like Burnout Paradise FWTW. I don't like the free-roaming world at all. Hot Pursuit trumps in IMO.

Yup...the biggest of which was when I said, "holy sh*t...why did I buy this game" after about 30 min. of highly repetitive gameplay. Good for 29 min. tho!

I got burnout (pun intended) from SS after several hours as well. It is a pain to ace all the races, especially those helicopter fights.

I really liked Split Second also but it's a total arcade racer which is the type of racer I enjoy.

It seems like PK is more of a sim guy so he probably would hate it.

I'm a black-and-white guy when it comes to racing games. I love pure sims, like iRacing, and the highest form of console attempts at sims, such as Forza 4. I also like balls-out arcade racing games, such as the Burnout series. I don't like games that attempt to be both, except for the Metropolis Street Racer/Project Gotham series.

you may like SS then. Blur is also a good game if you like a more enhanced Mario Kart type of game on XB. My friend is playing CARS 2 and says it's amazing to look at. Looks like the movie while you play.

Like Colin McRae 3/04/2005 ;)

Those have got to be the worse rally games ever produced. No scratch that Mobil 1 Rally gets the nod as the absolute worse rally game ever produced.

Say what? pk has an Xbox 360 now?? Welcome to the club, man.

As for suggestions, I certainly recommend SBK X. Best racing experience on console that money can buy in my opinion. It can be bought for 11 bucks from a top-rated seller at eBay right now.

SBK X (Xbox 360 version) for $11

I had to double dip and jump on this offer because my first copy is cracked on the inside part of the disc making it unreadable on my console. At any rate, I'll finally be able to finish the last year of my 8-year career.

Better than any of the MotoGP games? The MotoGP license is important to my sons and me, but I can probably steer them toward something more realistic if the gap is that large.

Thanks.

If you want to play the game closest to a motorcycle simulation on console that has the MotoGP license, then MotoGP 08 is your best bet. The 08 version is the one developed by Milestone, same team behind development of the SBK series.

The recent update of the MotoGP series developed by Capcom, MotoGP 10/11, has been widely criticized because of the inaccuracy of various sim elements of motorcycle physics/dynamics. I dug up an old post from several months ago in another forum that listed many of the faults in that game which I've gathered from guys I respect and/or know who rides real bikes on the street and on tracks.

* The brake forces in MotoGP 10/11 are implemented wrong. The initial force generated from applying the front brake after acceleration should be at its strongest point due to the tremendous amount of load transfer transitioning from the back end of the bike to the front end. However, in MotoGP 10/11 brake forces act stronger as the bike gets slower, which is the complete opposite of how it is on a real bike. Because of this, it's understandable to see why trailbraking in this game is unnecessarily difficult to execute properly -- and almost impossible in some instances (i.e. approaching a downhill corner).

* Turning the bike from upright position into a full lean in MotoGP 10/11 is not nearly as responsive as it should be. Many point out this being a direct result of the lack of feeling of weight of the bike while riding.

* Change-of-direction response (side-to-side transition) of the bike is too twitchy. Again, this issue points to lack of feeling of weight of the bike.

* There is an assumption that the lateral forces and gyroscopic forces exerted on the bike pivots from the head of the rider instead of the contact patch of the tires (the proper point). For proof of the assumption, pick out a track with a long straight segment followed by a medium-speed corner like Catalunya and ride along the white chalk left edge of the road in upright position, then turn as you approach the first right-hander. The wheels of the bike will drift to the left and go off the track as the bike tips over. This should not happen.

* The way power wheelie happen in MotoGP 10/11 is unnatural. A bike just won't flip over that quickly no matter how powerful the engine is and/or how hard the throttle is being applied. The front wheel will likely come off the ground after accelerating hard from standstill position, but the weight of the front end of the bike should keep instantaneous flip over action from happening.

* It's possible to turn in full lean while off track in the grass or gravel and still not fall off the bike.

I also want to add that despite its numerous handling physics quirks, some motorcycle gaming enthusiasts admit that MotoGP 10/11 is still fun to play. However, playing this game a lot could also instill bad motorcycle riding habits for people who are accustomed to riding bikes in real life. And furthermore, those expecting this game to represent a simulation of how a bike actually rides will be very disappointed.

And here are the faults of SBK X that's been mentioned by the same guys:

* It is more difficult to get the bike from upright position at turn-in to full lean in the apex of a corner than it should be.

* Applying light pressure on the front brake while leaning should not immediately stand up the bike the way it does in the game.

* The use of rear brakes in order to ride fast in the corners is emphasized far too much in the game over maintaining proper corner entry speed, precise steering and throttle management, which are all factors that are supposed to represent more important criteria in terms of improving cornering skills and technique.

Much of these faults have been taken care of in SBK 2011. It's too bad this game has not yet been published for sale in the US region though.
