Yeah, it's real tough to click a button that says "install patch"dbdynsty25 wrote:You guys are having to do quite a bit of tweaking to get this thing to run normally. Sounds awesome.
I'm sure you don't tweak the heck out of your PC's and all your dozens
of phones and devices.
The TP (after a few simple tweaks) loads webpages faster than a Ipad or your beloved Galaxy.
To have an extra $500 in my pocket, I'll gladly tweak

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
OK Jack i'll agree that the tweaking is not all that complicated but honestly how can you say webpages load faster on the TouchPad if you don't own a Galaxy Tablet or iPad 2?

Samsung may buy WebOS

I read an article showing comparative times of the same exact web pages.Rodster wrote:OK Jack i'll agree that the tweaking is not all that complicated but honestly how can you say webpages load faster on the TouchPad if you don't own a Galaxy Tablet or iPad 2?
I'll try and find it. I should have mentioned this was what I read, not
experienced 1st hand. What I can say though, is that pages now seem to
load almost instantly, after the few tweaks I made. I'm sure the few extra
seconds it may take for the other Tablets to load won't be significant. But
it just shows that the performance of the TP is right up there with the
comepetiton. I have Android on my Dell Streak and after seeing the way
WebOS multi tasks and makes moving from app to app such a pleasure, the
Android interface just feels inferior now. I also don't get those periodic freezes
and apps that won't open or just get stuck all the time in droid-land.
Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
If Samsung buys WebOS that that would be nice but HP has given mixed signals whether they will keep WebOS and license it out or if they will sell off their WebOS hardware and software divisions. HP is run by a bunch of goof-balls so no one knows for sure what they plan to do lol.
Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
One thing is certain. There is now a built in audience of millions that have a TP. That's a lot of potential for advertisers, app makers, developers, etc.Rodster wrote:If Samsung buys WebOS that that would be nice but HP has given mixed signals whether they will keep WebOS and license it out or if they will sell off their WebOS hardware and software divisions. Something tells me WebOS is going not going to die. It's just too good to let it fade into the sunset. Anyone that spends a few hours with it can see that.
Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
It's not dead if someone does something with WebOS. If it's purchased from HP then it has a good chance of competing but if left up to the numpties at HP to do something positive with WebOS, good luck with that.JackB1 wrote:One thing is certain. Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
Since it came up in the other thread, Touchpads costs $306 to produce.
Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu said the temporary return of the TouchPad was likely a poorly thought-through decision.
"They did a lot of these moves in haste," Mr. Wu said. He said the move will likely create confusion among customers and application developers, which H-P is still trying to woo.

I thought it was a new OTA update, but I guess I was wrong. When I turned on my TP last night it said there was a newRodster wrote:Where've you been Jack? 3.0.2 build 68 has been out sometime now. Welcome to the club.
OTA update available and it downloaded it for 15 minutes and installed it. Why would it automatically do that if I was already
up to date? I know I got the most recent one a few days ago when I first got the pad, so why would it prompt me for this
new one again? Also, then I saw a bunch of updates in Preware for 3.0.2 versions of some of the patches, so I installed
those too.
Not sure what happened, but I knew there was a OTA update coming soon and I thought that was it
Never Mind
edit: only thing I can think of is that I removed the Uberkernel app from Preware and maybe that caused this? Who knows?

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
For those brave souls that want to try overclocking thier TP's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1230912
apparently, the TP is "approved" to be safe up to 1.5, but some are going as high
as 1.7 or 1.9! I think the stock kernel is 1.2. I may try 1.5. All you have to
really do is install "Preware" and then install "uberkernal" and "govnah".

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
This goes for any electronic device. Any time you overclock something you will shorten it's life. If you plan on using your TP for several years until the iPad 6 i'd stay away from OC'ing.
Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
I'm just going up to 1.5. That's the recommended speed for this chip anyway.Rodster wrote:This goes for any electronic device. Any time you overclock something you will shorten it's life. If you plan on using your TP for several years until the iPad 6 i'd stay away from OC'ing.

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
That's actually incorrect. There are numerous instances of chip manufacturers "underclocking" processors so that they can sell them at a discounted price so that they can fill a wide range of price points. Intel is notorious for that. That's why a lot of the budget gaming systems out there are using cheaper/slower processors, which have exactly the same components as the faster ones (multiplyers and certain functions being turned off are usually the only difference)...overclock em to the more expensive processor level and you get exactly the same life span.Rodster wrote:This goes for any electronic device. Here's my Tjung impressions of it.
Hardware: crappy.
OS: best out there.

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
I should have qualified that statement. I meant to say "in general" it's not a good idea to OC. Yeah there are some CPU's that will let you OC but i've read too many comments about superclocked Evga video cards failing because they are pushed to their performance edge.
I stand by the Tablet comment though because I know first hand how warm they get when you start pushing them.

Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
I think the hardware is decent, nothing mind-blowing especially with the next gen Tablets on the way. The OS is OK. I prefer Android but like I said before now that I have an Android and WebOS Tab, I think I may get an iPad 3 this time if they beef up the specs.JRod wrote:Here's my Tjung impressions of it.

totally agree with line 2.
What makes you think the hardware is "crappy"???

Seemed sluggish doing things you are going to do a lot of. Slate didn't feel that great. It was heavier than the iPad.JackB1 wrote:JRod wrote:Here's my Tjung impressions of it.

Still the OS just made sense. Blame this one on HP they have a great OS but are making their devices like their computers...crappy.
Re: OT: WebOS Tablet Thread
Isn't responsiveness part and parcel of the OS? A beautiful, fully featured OS is junk if it runs like a pig.

The OS feels responsive to me. Did you try disabling all the logging on the Tablet?
