Holy crap. What a crazy thread. Looks like the patch might have screwed up field degradation as well. I indeed noticed that NES look of the lettering in the endzones in my RTG games and thought wtf. I did not play before the patch since the patch auto dl when I put in the disc the first time. Looks like EA has some explaining to do lol.

ok cool, i've read on gamefaqs that the patch was meant to fix the framerate, but looks like it may have broken some of the lighting/graphics they had originally put in.

ya i see ppl complaining about the endzones now, they look like they're all pixelated :

Gotta love those midget letters on Auburn's unis lol.

On a serious note, after winning the state championship game I had a ton of offers from prestigious schools. I chose to be QB with Florida as a second stringer. The Coach's Trust feature is great. EA has eliminated the routine of choosing to go to the library, condition, etc. Now you just go to practice and get 25 reps at plays. If you complete a pass you get XP, then bonus XP for a first down. If you throw an int you lose 50 xp. At the end of your 25 reps you get a point total that is added to Coach's Trust. During games you also can earn points to gain the coach's trust. So far I have only been holder on kicks and mop up guy in the fourth quarter. Once you get so many XP you get a shot at challenging the guy above you at your position and taking his job. It's definitely an upgrade over last year's RTG model. I will be interested to see how fast it takes to move up to starter and how much players progress. Tomorrow I will play through the rest of season 1 with the Gators and see how things pan out.

Even though there appear to be a lot of glitches and bugs according the to the forum over at OS, the game is still a lot of fun to play and I have run across nothing that is a deal breaker for me. The shitty CPU clock management and occasionally bizarre play calling in RTG is nothing that seriously affected any of the 13 HS games I played in terms of outcome. The core gameplay is awesome and I will be optimistic and think that EA will iron out some of the snafus in the game.

My understanding it's the same engine this year so I would expect it to play the same.

I picked this up yesterday and played around with it for most of last night.

Played a half of UNC (me) vs Ole Miss on All-American. I was up 17-0 at the half....then I played a half as Syracuse against Penn State and was down 6-0 at the half... the only issue I had with the game was a lot of INT's by the CPU QB. I picked off two in each game (and again I only played half a game each time). Hopefully some slider adjustments can fix that. The games were total contrast. In the first one, the CPU couldn't do anything offensively against me, while I was moving up and down the field at will. In the second game, I could barely move the ball. Penn State should have been kicking my butt, but both times I picked him off deep in my end which prevented scores.

Gameplay seems to be greatly improved. Last year when I needed yardage, I would just call slant routes. That was not the case in these games. Penn State had a solid ground game game and often took me a few guys to bring down their RB.

The other cool feature I was playing around with is the conference realignment. I don't recall if this before, but you can now add as many teams as you wish to a conference without having to sub others out. You can protect certain rivalry games. I think I'' be re-creating the Big East and brining Penn state and Boston College in before I start my dynasty.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am still a bit wary of Madden having the same tackling & blocking. One of the NCAA preview videos specifically mentions the suction blocking issue, while press releases on Madden make mention of "100 new tackle animations". I'm a little concerned that they won't turn out to be the same since I'm not seeing the same wording being used to promote these features.

Maybe I will just have to wait for Madden before making a decision on one of these.

According to the OS thread, some rosters are out. Haven't tried to get them yet, so I can't confirm, but you should be able to EA Locker them. Probably a good tide-over until FK releases his if you're a diehard Fairdale Kings fan lol

There are a lot of great things I've seen in the game so far, but the biggest area of excitement for me is the AI. The improvements made has made this version a fun offline football action experience. It feels like I'm playing a human being which is a great compliment. As many have mentioned running is much improved by the CPU. Nice to see the HB hit the sidelines and take it up the field. I love the broadcast camera too, and not so much the repetitive commentary. Time to sell NCAA 11 which I was fond of, but they've done enough tweaks for me to keep 12 instead.

there is a new camera?

with no new additions made to 'Team Builder' mode, a new camera would be a welcome addition.

Unfortunately the broadcast cam is just for coach mode, vin. I'd be glad to be mistaken though.

The new camera only works in coach mode or if you play Dynasty as just a coordinator and you choose to watch the plays you're not part of. For example I started a dynasty as the Old Miss Offensive Coordinator so I only recruit and call offensive plays. I don't even get to decided to go for it on 4th down or not.

Anyway when you're not doing your thing you are at a screen where you can skip to when you're next on the field, sim each play with a simulcast type screen or watch each play and when you do it is in the broadcast cam. You can watch a few plays then skim or skip ahead. Kind of cool and makes playing a game a lot faster.

Played Terry in 3 games last night, except for the last one when I could do nothing with whatever random team I had they were good games. Won the first in triple OT, lost the second 7-6 I believe and lost the 3rd 14-0. One thing is for sure we both need to loose our old habits, especially on defense as they don't work anymore. Aside from some lag in the last game it was fun and felt more like a chess match then past version which felt like an arcade fest.

Downsides no coach mode online. Can't set the weather in an unranked, private game at least.

I'd also recommend adjusting the speed slider down to like 45 or 43 if you want to see really fast guys be really fast. I think the base set is ok but just a few ticks makes a big difference. Penalties still are too few, although I did see 3 toughing the passer penalties with the slider at 80 in one game and two were on the cpu.

Overall still having a good experience.

This.

I lost that triple OT game using my patented "control the FS, run out of position and try to bait the other player into throwing at me, then running back and picking it off" move. I swear, for years I've been able to play like Deion Sanders in almost any FB game. Safety help over the top didn't matter much, but last night Danimal tore me a new one 5 or 6 times when I tried to do that--including the game-clinching OT touchdown.

What was really cool to see was the pass rush actually have a huge impact. There were times Dan had wide open guys but couldn't get time to set his feet and get the ball away. Or times when I'd send a blitz and they'd pick it up and he'd just lob a perfect toss right into his receiver's arms. But the pass rush made or broke the game for both of us. The stuff over the middle is no longer money, and the deep posts down the center of the field are much better defended now. But there were a few throws near the sidelines where guys seemed to be smart--other than Dan's receiver who was wide open in the back of the end zone deciding to not even tap a toe, leading to an incompletion.

But with the pass rush having such a huge impact on the game, it was crazy to see other things work that should due to that rush--namely draw plays. Dan spent one entire drive in our first game running draws and I was blitzing and doing all sorts of crap to try to stop it, but his line would let everybody up field, and then clear a hole for the back to just scoot through. It was very cool and very frustrating all at the same time. I will say that a well-timed draw in a long-yardage passing down is no longer a wasted down. I think I almost converted one on 3rd and 20 (came up a few yards short), but there were probably 8 or 9 draws last night in those 3 games where one of our defenses was caught flat-footed.

I have yet to mount a consistent ground game myself, but I played with Cal, UL Monroe, and Eastern Carolina in those three games, so I may try playing with a more powerful ground team to see what it's like.

I played a full 10-game season in RTG mode as a High School QB last night, and I was pretty amazed at how wide-spread the game results were. A couple games I was ridiculously efficient--like 17 of 23 for 300 yards and a few TD's--and others I was mind-bogglingly bad. My low point was my final game of the year, against my hated local rival. I sh*t you not, I put up these monster stats: 12 of 38, 198 yards, 1 TD, 5 INT. I got absolutely manhandled. They sacked me repeatedly, they picked off every slant, and even a simple wheel route had the corners jumping the break and picking off passes. This is on default All American, where I never really struggled much in NCAA or on All-Pro in Madden in years past, so I'm curious to see how it plays out.

I had several 3 or 4 INT games, but half the time it seemed my wideout broke his route late, or didn't come back for the ball, etc. It really conveys that same feeling of being a teammate--when you get the time, you throw a perfect ball, and the idiot wideout drops it because somebody touched his hip, you want to scream. If he doesn't come back for the ball, and the corner jumps the hitch--you want to scream. But when you leave him hanging over the middle and you see him get his clock cleaned, you feel like screaming at yourself. LOVING the game mode this year.

Too easy to get your scholarship opportunities, though, as I got offered a scholarship by Stanford despite having half of my games with 2+ picks. I just really need to relearn how to play football, both on offense and defense.

Yeah, RTG needs to be tougher in terms of who offers scholarships. I got offers from Bama, Florida, FSU, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Va Tech, USC, LSU, South Carolina, Auburn, and some others. I got similar offers at the MLB position in the same year. I did not feel like my MLB stats warranted getting offers from all those elite schools. My QB numbers were ok, but not groundbreaking since I allowed for quite a few runs. I did only have one 2 int all year (one reg season, one playoffs). I suppose EA decided to make it like this to allow gamers to have a wide selection of where they go to college. I will bump it up to Heisman next go around and see how that works out.

I spent a total of 14 hours of playing the PS3 version yesterday and had zero lockups (knock on wood). Everything was really smooth.

I got the bonus NCAA mini guide from Amazon today (downloadable PDF) and it is actually quite good. It does a nice job of detailing strategies and explaining the plays. If any of you got it through Amazon do not forget to overlook downloading the guide.
