Would like to know this too but I think most of the necessary OS services will start regardless. You can shut the service down once the device is turned on.MizzouRah wrote:Cool, I'll try again.. thanks! I love this thing!!!dbdynsty25 wrote:Also...looks like friend me was updated today. Nice new interface. That's probably why it wasn't showing up.
Anyway to turn something off, like my email from auto running when I turn it on?

OK I think I found out how...sort of.
Settings --> Applications --> Manage Applications --> Running--> Find App --> Force Stop
edit: Force Stop will do what it says but if you scroll down to the bottom an touch "Show All" it mentions System Tools and part of the permission for that service says automatically start at boot. Show that service may in fact be controlled by the OS. Since it's a Google OS and Gmail is a Google feature I don't think they'll let you start the OS without Gmail.
I wonder if you might be able to edit that file if it's connected to a PC?
I found this app..Autostarts !

I'm going to do a search, I'm sure someone has seen this issue?
DB,
I bought the full version of Random Mahjong as well - this game is just too much fun not to support it, plus I like the landscape mode as well.
Friend Me was also available!
Re: The Android Tablet Thread
You can do all that under the sync options in settings. Just turn auto sync off on your gmail and other mail accounts.MizzouRah wrote:Cool, I'll try again.. thanks! I just deleted the account for now, if I get email there, I never receive it on my home pc and I can't have that.
I guess next I'll check on that audio app that lets you stream your music from your home pc.

Hey db is this you? http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive ... 61486.html
I was searching to see if the 10.1 Tab uses Gorilla Glass. I bought some screen protectors for my Tab and they are crap. It looks like I could have used that money for something else.

I found this story interesting about Android phone owners actually preferring iPad for their tablet.XXXIV wrote:Only have two downloaded apps to my android phone and hardly ever use either so I would say apps are low on list for phones. I make phone calls, read email, snap a pic here and there and surf a couple of websites.
Now a tab would be a different story for me. I would want the apps.

And it still doesn't use GG, but it's pretty damn scratch resistant and I find it pointless to protect the screen of a tab. You're not putting it in your pocket or anything. If you drop it, you're f*cked regardless.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Yeah I have never seen gorilla glass, is it the same company who makes gorilla glue?
I am so impressed with this tablet. I've have not found a storage of apps. Wrt games I literally got tired of scrolling down for more. Drag racer is a lot of fun and it's free.
Some of the News apps are borked. The just quit working so I uninstalled them.

Splashtop remote HD is only $2.99, picked it up today and it's AWESOME!
I can remote desktop into my pc from my tab now and do just about anything from my desktop.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Keep in mid that won't fit in the Samsung leather pouch.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
I haven't bought the pouch yet.. wanted to wait a bit to see what else came out.Rodster wrote:Keep in mid that won't fit in the Samsung leather pouch.
The link you posted I've been looking at getting.. wanted to see some reviews and as soon as my traded in games credit hits next week, I think I'm going to pick it up.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
There are pros and cons to both the Samsung pouch and this skin. The Samsung pouch looks awesome but the skin is jelly like and protects the Tablet if you drop it. I almost tip mine over today. I was holding it in one hand and one of my fingers caught the corner edge of the tablet and it almost flipped it out of my hand.
The downside I see to the skin is heat. With the tablet backside exposed it dissipates heat quite nicely. It does warm up while playing games. I don't know if putting a jelly like skin on the back will make it run hotter?

That's a good question...Rodster wrote:

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
I found a really good game. It's called Glow Hockey, it's a cross between table air hockey and geometry wars.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Of course it'll run hotter with a gel covering the back of it. Common sense.
That's why the pouch is awesome. Use it to carry the thing around and then take it out to use it. Just be careful with it. The whole point of the ultra-slim and light portable tablet is to NOT be bulky. Throwing cases and gel skins on the thing is counter productive. Might as well have just bought a Xoom.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Yup i've come to the same conclusion. The pouch is awesome looking. Now if I hadn't bought the Samsung pouch I might consider it. I have that same gel skin for my Samsung Galaxy Prevail and it really is nice "FOR A CELL PHONE". It protects it from drops but you're right for a tablet it defeats the purpose of the design.
Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
If you read the reviews, it doesn't add much "bulky" to it. Take that FWIW though..
I'm good for now without anything, I keep it in a safe place.

Tablet experts: What's the skinny on the Toshiba 10.1 Thrive? How does it compare to the Samsung 10.1 Galaxy Tab?
Thanks.
Thanks.

What's a Toshiba Thrive ?
I just read the review wasn't aware it even existed. The review I read said it has all the current hardware as the Galaxy Tab for less. Cosmetically it's thich almost looks like a small laptop. For the few extra bucks i'd get the 16GB Tab.

Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Only real plus for the thrive is the removable battery. Its essentially the same size as the xoom which means the 10.1 is still significantly better from a usability standpoint.pk500 wrote:Tablet experts: What's the skinny on the Toshiba 10.1 Thrive? Re: OT: Android Tablet Thread
Also the Thrive has full USB, up to 128GB SD cards and HDMI.
