I actually have to search the web for it as it doesn't list it at the app store, maybe they pulled it?

I do think I might be unhappy with the lack of apps.. but I did know that going in.. I just hope we see many more as the tab starts to mature.

I'm certainly not worried by the so called lack of apps. I have no doubt it'll pick up. If it weren't Android based then yes I would be worried. Android has too much market share for things not to pickup.

Scott - I see that the Xoom WiFi model is now selling for $499. How would you compare the Xoom with the the Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Recap :)
dbdynsty25 wrote:Galaxy Tab 10.1....wow. Holy sh*t. This thing is legit. Go get one Rod.
dbdynsty25 wrote:Returned the Xoom today...the Tab is just so much better overall from a usability standpoint. It's what a tablet should be in terms of size and weight...really easy to use it as a Nook/Kindle reader...the Xoom was too difficult because of the weight and size of the thing. Extremely happy with the Tab 10.1, that's for sure.

ok, set up my home email on my tab, but even thought it's set to never take emails off the server (I want to have them come into my inbox account on my outlook on my pc as well)

It seems as if once they come into my tab email, they never come into my outlook email account on my pc?

That's weird...I don't use exchange besides my work account, so can't help ya there.

As for Random Mahjong...yup, awesome. I paid for the "pro" version because I like being able to play in landscape and without ads. :)

And the thread title...I'm cool with that. LOL. Been busy at work this week obviously, so haven't been able to help much.

Well as someone with both an ipad and a tab, I can honestly say that while I understand the android market is light years behind apple, I am disappointed at the lack of or the quality of some very key apps, at least for me. No Hulu +, no Netflix, no HBO GO, no ABC player...the lack of those apps pretty much eliminate any kind of multimedia experience on the tab for now. I do understand that some or all of these apps are under construction, but their omission at a time when all of these tablets are launching as possible competitors to the ipad is almost laughable.

The facebook and twitter apps are also very inferior to what's available for the ipad and even USA Today for Android is not even functional compared to the ipad app.

Still I am very happy with my purchase and am still getting a lot of enjoyment out of my Galaxy Tab. I hope people don't get frustrated with the lack of apps at this time and bail on the android tablets because I would love to see what's to come.

Badgun I think you're missing one key thing. Of course the iPad will get all of the love, it was the first of it's kind and IS the industry leader. It's no different than the Xbox 360 getting games that the PS3 never got but eventually it evens itself out just look at the 360 vs PS3 now.

I expect the same to happen between the Android tablets and Apples stuff. It will take time but for me I have all I need for a Tablet.

You would think so, but android phones have been around for a while and have twice the market share as iphones, yet iphones still have the clear lead in apps quality and quantity right?

And isn't Apple the clear market leader in both? There you go !

I have all the apps I need for both my Droid devices. Apps are being developed for both, obviously more for Apple's stuff but I can't predict how many and when new Droid apps will arrive. Since I don't use Apple products i'm not missing out on anything by using the Droid. ;)

Only have two downloaded apps to my android phone and hardly ever use either so I would say apps are low on list for phones. I make phone calls, read email, snap a pic here and there and surf a couple of websites.

Now a tab would be a different story for me. I would want the apps.

Ummm, no. Android starting outselling the iphone 1.5 years ago and now has a large lead in marketshare, yet the iphone still has much better apps.

Analysts say the ipad will have dominant tablet marketshare until 2015.

My concern with owning an android tablet is if android is the market leader in smartphones yet still lags in apps, what does that mean for tablet apps when android may not be the market leader for several years?

Merged the old Xoom thread with this one so all Android talk is in one place. This was requested a while ago but I haven't been able to get to it until now.

Naples, sales are nice but that doesn't equal market leader, sorry. A market leader usually gets stuff first and more of it including exclusives.

Microsoft has outsold the PS3 so has Nintendo but Sony is still viewed as the market leader. The PlayStation brand still has more weight behind it than does the Xbox brand. Although XBL is the market leader for online services. Droid may have more devices out there which happened sometime ago as you mentioned and was mentioned before that but when it comes to Tablets and Phones, it's Apples World and we just happen to live in it

I just think a 2-to-1 sales advantage equals market leader. I think you are created a circular logic cycle; Apple is the market leader because it gets stuff first/exclusively, and it gets stuff first/exclusively because it is market leader.

Either way, my point is that if android phones get subpar apps despite clearly outselling iphones, it doesn't bode well for android tablet apps which has far fewer sales than the ipad.

That's why I went with the iPad2 instead of getting into the android market.

I see what you're getting at but there's where I disagree. To me market leader means it drives the market which Apple clearly does regardless of whether they are outsold on device count. There's way more attention on Apple and what it plans to sell than there is Droid so Apple has a higher fanatical and casual base about it. For example the PlayStation brand still drives the market even though they have been outsold by both Nintendo and Microsoft.

Go to a Walmart or Target and they have display altars for the iPad, iPhone and iPod's. No such luck for anything Droid. Again no problem for me regarding apps as there's plenty to choose from. That's why I don't I don't equate overall sales with the one who drives the market. Nothing is forever in technology but Apple is still the King.

Judging from the last couple of OS and hardware updates, Apple is driving that market with a roadmap from Google. LOL

No, I'm not missing anything. I completely understand that Apple was here first, gets all the love, etc. BUT, what I am saying is ABC, Netflix, and to a lesser extent, Hulu + have all been available for some time on the ipad, but are nowhere to be found on the android tablets. I don't know, maybe I'm putting too much emphasis on multimedia, but you know as well as I do that Netflix is pretty much available for every device that has a screen.

What I'm saying is it is obvious that the android tablets are taking off. There's about 6 of us in this thread alone that recently bought one. Some of us know what to expect as far as apps go while others may get frustrated, sell or return their tablet and get an ipad 2, which is not going to do their marketshare any favors.

I wanted an ipad 2, but I didn't need two of what amounts to the same tablet. So I went for the Galaxy Tab and I am still glad I did. The point I am trying to make is not everyone will be as patient as you are and will move to the tablet with the apps they want that are available now.

edit: Oh and if anyone is using Amazon's Cloud service, they will now give you unlimited storage if you have any of their paying plans. So basically for $20 a year I can put all 320 gigs of my music collection online to listen to from any pc or cloud enabled device.

If you don't mind leaving your home PC running with the free audiogalaxy server, you can stream from your home PC to a web browser, ios, or android device for free.

It's what I do with my ipad, or log in with a web browser at work to access all my mp3s.
