Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
So my youngest daughter (6) has assumed control of my old DS Lite. I have two choices buy her a DSi or let her keep it and get myself a 3DS. I'm pretty sure the price on these will drop soon due to poor sales but I don't really care to much about saving a few dollars.
Now that it has been out and is being used a lot I want to know what people think. My main concern is eye strain. I have an eye condition and I can't watch 3D movies to often because it gives me a head ache so I'm curious how this is working out for people.
Thanks in advance

Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
My suggestion is to go to a Gamestop and mess with one for 15-30 minutes. If you're ok then you should be fine. I'd still get it from a retailer like Walmart where you can return it if need be.
I checked it out at Gamestop and messed with it for 5 minutes and it looked pretty cool with 3D cranked all the way up. The Gamestop manager said he suffers from migraines and he regrets buying one because it give him a migraine headache within 20 minutes.

Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Rodster's suggestion is best if you are concerned about being able to use a 3DS without eye problems. I still am playing mine a lot and am suffering no problems whatsoever. Getting it at Walmart is perfect since you can play it for a while and return it without a hassle if you decide it's not for you. I doubt the price will come down any time soon. Nintendo is stubborn about price cuts and usually waits quite a while to cut prices on its stuff. They will be releasing some of their heavy hitters in the next few months so I'm sure they are not too worried about selling systems at this point.
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Great game came out last week. Dead or Alive Dimensions is a very good handheld fighter. It has a very long story mode to go along with its many other modes. The story mode is not half-assed like in other fighting games. It also does a nice job of explaining the fight mechanics as you go along. I like the control scheme in DOA better than in SSF on the 3DS. It translates well to the 3DS button layout. There are a ton of unlockables as you progress through the game, which is also cool.
As for the graphics, they are better than I expected them to be. The 3D effect is excellent and adds to the experience. And, yes, the ladies look nice in 3D -- I'll leave it at that.
The latest BlazBlue comes out this week on the 3DS as well, but I'm still debating whether to get the 3DS or PSP version of that one.

Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Picked up Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D early Sunday and have been putting in some serious time with it. The game looks really nice and the gyroscopic controls are cool. It has been a while since I played the original, so the game is fairly fresh to me and feels almost like a new Zelda game. I don't normally put a lot of stock in IGN, but here's their 9.5 review of the game -- does a good job of giving an overview.

Is there any possible way to skip to the Master Quest right off the bat? Enter your name as ZELDA perhaps?
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
I don't think there is. I looked around the net to see if there is a way and apparently you have to go through the regular game first.Slumberland wrote:Is there any possible way to skip to the Master Quest right off the bat? Enter your name as ZELDA perhaps?

And anyone who wants to play a game twice, or start over, or anything!Murph wrote:It makes buying the game pre-owned pointless.dbdynsty25 wrote:http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/06/r ... es+2%29%29

Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Holy crap that sucks. So you are basically buying the game to play it once and that's it. Let's see how long it takes for this form of DRM to die a painful death when the pirates will figure a way around it.
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Yeah, this is a complete bunch of crap and persuaded me not to buy a game I was likely going to buy when it went on sale. I doubt this issue would personally affect me since I do not sell back many handheld games or play through them twice, but it still rubs me the wrong way.dbdynsty25 wrote:http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/06/r ... es+2%29%29

Sure, GS will give you a less than $5 trade-in. Maybe that is an exaggeration, but it won't be much!
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Amazon is giving $19, which is very surprising to me. BTW, Amazon will give you 12.75 for the new 3DS Zelda -- go figure.sportdan30 wrote:Sure, GS will give you a less than $5 trade-in. Maybe that is an exaggeration, but it won't be much!

Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
I'm surprised. That's a fairly decent return. Who would trade-in Zelda that quickly though???
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
Good question. I would think the demand would far outweigh the supply in the used-game market for Zelda. I'm still having a blast with it and enjoying trying to be a completionist in it this time around. I forgot how much stuff there is to do in this game.sportdan30 wrote:I'm surprised. Zelda is still pretty magical. Love the 3D for the most part.
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
I'm ready for Majora's Mask now in 3D. I'm definitely digging the 3D effect in the 3DS games I have been playing.Slumberland wrote:Zelda is still pretty magical. Love the 3D for the most part.

Majora's Mask is the one I never finished. Would love to have it on here... and I have to assume it's in the works. I can already imagine that moon bearing down on Hyrule in 3D.
Re: Nintendo Unveils the 3DS
There's really no reason why Nintendo should hold back on re-releasing some of the bigger games on the N64 in 3D. One game I really want to see bad on the 3DS is Wave Race. I would also love to see F-Zero.

Much needed price reduction coming August 12th. http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/28/nint ... h-current/
$169 sounds good to me.

I still have no interest, but wow that's a huge price drop in such a short amount of time.
