From the article
Anyone turning on their PS3 to reconnect to PSN will be forced to change their password. This is one of the security measures Sony has implemented to ensure accounts become secure again. But a hack has been discovered allowing someone to reset your password if they know your email address and date of birth. Both pieces of information were taken in the original hack making them publicly available to the right people (hackers).

The new hack has been verified by a few gaming websites including Eurogamer and Nyleveia. Sony has since disabled the password reset system as it investigates what has happened with no indication of when it, and therefore access to some of its websites, will be coming back online. However, if you already have access to your PSN account it should continue to work. Those that haven’t done the password reset step will just have to wait again.
I don't know what constitutes a hack in your world, but someone being able to edit my password I just reset because they have my email address from the previous intrusion seems like a hack to me.

Even if what you're saying is true while being offline a month no one at the great brain trust of Sony thought "hey the hackers have the information so they can circumvent our new ultra protective security measure of making everyone change their password"?

Yes this sounds like a company who knows about security and how to protect their users. LMAO!!!

Here is another story this one with the hack. Excuse me, Sony doesn't consider this a hack but a "URL exploit". I guess there is a difference between the two for me the end user, just haven't figured out what it is yet.

Firmware 3.61 causing PS3s to overheat? LMAO
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... o-overheat

PlayStation 3's recent 3.61 firmware update is causing some consoles to overheat and shutdown, according to Rockstar Games. A post on the developer's support site points the finger at Sony's recent firmware tweak after a number of L.A. Noire users reported their machines were turning off mid-game.

"Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or 'Red Lighting' after having installed 3.61.

"This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to two hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed."

Rockstar instructed users to get in touch with Sony, but promised to look into the matter further internally as well.

"At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates."

On a separate note..

Can I charge my PS3 controllers via my PC's USB? It seems to work (lights flash) but when I attempt to play a game the lights continue to flash, as if the controller is dead. I then need to plug into the PS3 and am forced to sit a foot in front of my 50 inch screen.

Wait.. maybe the controllers have been hacked as well.

Yes you can charge the Dual Shock 3 controller from any USB port. That's normal and happens to me too. The reason for that is when the DS3 went into charge mode it lost it's sync to the PS3.

It sounds like it's something they overlooked but wasn't necessarily exploited by hackers. I am assuming the offline measures are to make check for anything else they may have missed in the MONTH they were offline.

I think that Kokatu article is also wrong about getting an e-mail notice from Sony if your account was password-hacked. I updated my PSN password when I got back online and I'm pretty sure I got an e-mail.

The mistake I made was I changed my e-mail to one I updated for a lot of other accounts, which in light of Sony's security issues, is probably a bad idea. When I can I'm going to change it to g0fukurselv$.

Well since I already have LBP and and we have two PSN accounts, I suppose I should be able to get all of the other four games. If not, I'll be going with Infamous and Dead Nation.

For fair coverage apparently the over heating issue is not a PS3 problem but an LA Noire issue as it is happening on the 360 as well.

The hackers are morons to hack into 8500 Greek accounts. Greece is in such economic shambles that those credit card numbers are surely worthless.

I am still trying to figure out if you forgot the word "protection" in that sentence or you intentionally did to poke fun at Sony.

Saw this on the Playstation blog -- look a little clunky but still something I'd be interested in:

"The official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset will be available for $99.99 (MSRP) at retailers nationwide this September. Many more of your favorite franchises, such as Killzone and Gran Turismo, were also designed for surround sound audio. Featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, the Wireless Stereo Headset lets you hear all the minor in-game audio clues clearly, whether you are in a firefight in a first-person shooter game or racing for the checkered flag. ... On top of that, the Wireless Stereo Headset also offers the highest quality voice chat for crystal clear online conversations. The mic is retractable so you can put it away if you just want to listen to music or play a single player game."
