Teal wrote:Just finished it. Really enjoyed it, and it twisted pretty well there at the end. Just a hint, though...just like in many movies today, you need to sit through the credits. Not a huge thing, but it ties up a loose end pretty well.

Also, as I was free driving around, I passed by a movie theater that was advertising 'The Big Sleep' on the marquee...cool...
Broadway is the best street to see all the old theaters and each one is playing a classic film noir. Just about every one of those theaters still stands today but unfortunately most were gutted and are used as retail spaces while only a handful have been renovated and still function as theaters. If only you could enter those buildings. Some of them are truly amazing. The Los Angeles theater is my personal favorite.

http://www.losangelestheatre.com/

It's really amazing being able to drive around a true to life city. Unlike GTA games of the past where they created a fictionalized and condensed New York or Los Angels this one is the real thing. I went out to a Downtown bar on Friday night that is situated in what once was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. I was able to drive by that same building in LA Noire the next day. My only gripe is that the retail space where the bar is located wasn't even in the building, which is disappointing considering the bar is part of Cole's French Dip, a legendary 100+ year old restaurant.

The game is far from perfect but oh how I love to experience a near fully realized 1947 Los Angeles.

Take-Two anticipates more LA Noire http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... e-la-noire

Rockstar's L.A. Noire could be the starting point for a lucrative franchise, judging by comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Speaking at investor call earlier today, Zelnick stated that the game's reception at retail had been "exceedingly strong", adding that Take-Two was anticipating the brand has a long future ahead of it. "We have every reason to believe that L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company," he said. "We do see this as a powerful new franchise."

Have enjoyed reading all your accounts of the game. Is there any replay value to this at all? Once you finish the game, is there anything to do (online multiplayer) etc.?

No MP at all. There is a DLC case coming, but I just traded it in for Dirt 3. Tried just roaming around, but it's not that engaging. The story is wonderfully done and it must absolutely be experienced, but I don't know that a purchase is warranted.

I have still only spent minimal time with the game. I'm just too busy coaching and finishing the school year. I'll be getting into it soon though.

There is a free roam option under Cases in the main menu. Someone already answered that when i asked about it earlier in the thread.

You can free roam with any of your previous partners as well. I suggest doing the free roam in the Vice Case files, get in the car before Roy Earle can get in and then running him over a few times. It's quite cathartic...

My gamefly rental is on its way. Hoping the game captivates me like it has many of you. To be honest, I've grown tired of the sand box games, so this might be a nice change of pace.

The Brainy Gamer podcast had an outstanding episode about LA Noire. As with every BG show, it veers toward pretentious, but that's only an outgrowth of their ambition in bringing game discussion to a seldom-used level of analysis.

I highly recommend giving it a listen.

I love Brainy Gamer and I never feel like it's pretentious. It's just plain intelligent discussion of video games with an academic slant. We need more of that in the gaming community. There are some overly pretentious discussion on gaming out there but you won't find it on Brainy Gamer. Highly recommended site.

Classic Game Room reviews/discussions aren't pretentious.

It's really not too bad. They give a huge spoiler warning at the beginning, but then they really don't reveal much.

I'd hold off and finish the game first.

I agree. They might taint the game for you if they dont spoil it in a traditional sense.

It was an entertaining and interesting listen though. :)

I was reading the other day that Rockstar and Team Bondi have had a falling out after Team Bondi accused Rockstar of poor working conditions. So Rockstar said the next LA Noire won't be made by them. :(

If you enjoy the game, it is. $4 makes it a no-brainer.

Seconded 8)

There's so much value to Amazon Prime now I signed up for a year. It compliments and enhances the Kindle Fire really well.
