No sh*t, he looks like he's 73 in that pic with his previously broken nose. I'm with Web, never was a huge wrestling fan but whenever I did watch in the 80's it was always fun watching The Macho Man.

Funny thing, I just called my brother way across the country telling him about this. I know he wasn't a historic figure, but he was huge during my generation when wrestling went big. Guy was an ultimate professional.

btw........I guess he wasn't w/ lady elizabeth anymore? I haven't followed raslin' in years.

My favorite Macho Man memory:

I'm 12 years old and sitting ringside at Maple Leaf Gardens, right beside an elevated ramp that the wrestlers would enter from the dressing room.

Macho Man is trying to take the intercontinental belt from Dino Bravo - as he enters the ring, some guy beside me yells "you suck Macho Man!". Randy then takes the homemade sign the guy is carrying, rips it up, and throws it on me. Best...memory...ever.

In the end, he got dq'd for kneeing Bravo in the groin. Weird stuff. Later on though, I got to see Andre the Giant defeat King Kong Bundy in a steel cage match. Now THAT was a spectacle.

RIP, Macho Man. One of the best of all time - promos, in ring, everything. Steamboat match at Wrestlemania III is rightfully legend.

I'm pretty sure Elizabeth died in 03. They were divorced back in the early 90s.

I don't follow WWE as I used to and one of the reasons I did was because of Savage and his flying elbow. Along his lady the sweet Elizabeth, they were worth the price of admission alone.

Savage for a while there was bigger than Hogan. I saw on TMZ Hogan said they had not talked in 10 yrs until a few weeks ago. Knowing Hogan he probably got jealous of Randy's fame.

Also don't forget Randy use to be in the MLB Cardinals system. I dont think he ever got to the majors, but guy must have been an amazing athlete.

All around great professional. No kids?

Vern Gagne is still alive. At this point I think there are more guys from that first generation of TV wrestling alive in their 80's than guys from the steroid days.

Steroids didnt get Verne but it appears in this story from 09' that he may have taken one too many blows to the head. I do remember watching him wrestle.

That string Of Von Erichs to start the list is pretty sad.

I met Fritz Von Erich one summer while I was competing in a summer track meet in Ft. Worth. He came up to me after the event and introduced himself and I was stunned as he was one of my favorite wrestlers from that era and I watched him every Saturday night. He asked me how I trained for the discus and shot put and asked me if I would help his son Kerry learn how to throw. I accepted and spent a number of afternoons at the Von Erich ranch in Lake Dallas. Fritz actually sent me a graduation present when I graduated from Texas A&M and also invited me to be a Pro wrestler if I was ever interested. I will never forget his and his family's generosity and kindness they showed me every time I saw them or spoke with them. I was really devastated when I heard Kerry had comitted suicide which was about a year or two after he survived a horrific motorcycle accident that effectively ended his career. What a tragedy for such a nice family to lose so many sons. I truly feel for Doris (Fritz's wife) and Kevin who are the lone survivors.

I was always partial to the regional stuff as opposed to the WWF. They were so much grittier than McMahon's operation. I loved those enormous von Erich-Freebird matches in Texas Stadium. Early 80's cable was a feast with mid-Atlantic, Southeastern, Texas, local Chicago etc.

Wow, this is horrible news. I always enjoyed Macho Man's interviews and style. I got the chance to meet him in a non-wrestling capacity and he was a very nice and generous guy. Actually came across as very intelligent. I guess with a schtick as pronounced as his in the ring I was expecting him to be at least somewhat like he was when donning the Macho Man persona, but he was actually nothing at all like that. He was down to earth, humble, and low key. Definitely one of the greatest characters in wrestling history.
