I'm not that big of Fleet Foxes fan, but oh man, their song "Montezuma" just kicks my ass. What a great song.

Re: OT: New Music?
I'm digging the new Fleet Foxes' album just as much as the band's debut.
This band straddles indie folk and the chamber pop of overly pretentious bands like The Arcade Fire almost perfectly. Plus the Simon and Garfunkel influence is unmistakable on some of this album, and the harmonies are as gorgeous as anything Crosby, Stills and Nash put on wax.

Turned to my GF last night in the middle of spinning this one on vinyl and said it's got a CSN/Simon and Garfunkel vibe. Good call. I'm enjoying it quite a bit as well.pk500 wrote:I'm digging the new Fleet Foxes' album just as much as the band's debut.

New Beastie Boys "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two" was darn good. Had my head bouncing during the whole album.

It's interesting. I found it kind of weird. These 40-something dudes rapping the whole "yes, yes, y'all" thing. Just being honest, but I couldn't decide if it was depressing or I was just hung-up on the "old white guys doing rap".F308GTB wrote:New Beastie Boys "Hot Sauce Committee Part Two" was darn good. I don't think it's that solid. A few good tracks but not solid all the way through.greggsand wrote:It's interesting. I found it kind of weird. I thought the new Beastie Boys was just ok. New music video is cool as hell though.
New thing I hate. People who repeatedly say that they don't make music like they used to. No s***, its called evolution dumb shits.

Re: OT: New Music?
Didn't even know there was a new Cars album coming out. I'll have to wait for it to show up on Zune, but the snippets I heard on Amazon gave me a throwback feel to the 80s. Sounds like the same old Cars, which isn't a good thing. One of the tracks sounded like it came straight off of Heartbeat City, complete with the crappy sounding synth work. I've got a special place in my heart for The Cars, having been one of my first live concerts (and from the 3rd row no less) when I was a young teen. But this album just feels so old based on the track previews.

A few new hip hip hop albums released of late. All four are fantastic...Beastie Boys as mentioned before along with Atmosphere, Del the Funky Homosapien and DJ Quik. It's been a good month of releases really.

If you enjoy 70's style R&B and haven't checked out Raphael Saadiq's new album "Stone Rollin" then you are really missing out.

Looking forward to getting the new MMJ and Eddie Vedder albums on my ipod/iphone next week.
Rolling Stone has given the MMJ album 4 out of 5 stars (review here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/album ... l-20110526) and NPR has a first listen of the EV ukulele album online (here: http://www.npr.org/2011/05/25/136649054 ... c=fb&cc=fp).

Public Service Announcement:
Next Tuesday will see the re-release of Twisted Sister's debut album, Under The Blade. It has never been available stateside in it's original mix (it was remixed to be poppier and released in '85 because of the success of Stay Hungry), and in addition the pre-album EP Ruff Cuts has been appended to it (this, also, has never seen a proper stateside release). The topper, though, is the bonus dvd of their appearance at the Reading Festival in 1982. I've had the audio as a poor boot for years, but to see the footage with a better mix is amazing. Absolutely smokin' live band.
I've had it on order since they made the announcement. One of my most anticipated records of the year.

Very cool to see Eddie Vedder selling more than a few copies of Ukulele Songs. Took a few listens to grow on me, but what a great album.
Re: OT: New Music?
New My Morning Jacket is quickly becoming my new fave. What a great album all around. Oh and the new Bon Iver is every bit as good as the last which I did NOT expect.

Re: OT: New Music?
Indeed. MMJ has long moved past the "jam band" label and has become a great, risk-taking, genre-bending American rock band, in the vein of Wilco.Spooky wrote:New My Morning Jacket is quickly becoming my new fave. Death Cab for Cutie most definitely has advanced past the "emo" label with its new album, which also is a gem. Another band that's morphing into a great American rock group.
Damn, there have been tons of excellent releases in the last two months. MMJ, Death Cab, Dawes, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi, Explosions in the Sky, J Mascis, Low, Steve Earle, Tab Benoit. My hard drive overflows with good new listens.
Hell, even the boutique band of this summer, Foster The People, keeps my foot tapping. Nothing wrong with entertaining cotton candy for the ears, especially during the summer.

Re: OT: New Music?
Hasn't been much to yap about lately, but I'm digging the new Eleanor Friedberger "Last Summer". Very poppy (esp compared to her Fiery Furnaces work). Nice bbq record.
Now once everyone is wasted at the BBQ, you can throw on Bon Iver's new one. Really sleepy, but it's growing on me. I bought the vinyl version & it sounds great...

Re: OT: New Music?
I quite like the Bon Iver record, but I'm not sure if I can take the next album of his falsetto. I know it's his vocal "thing," but it's starting to grate and overshadow the excellent music and lyrics.greggsand wrote:Now once everyone is wasted at the BBQ, you can throw on Bon Iver's new one. But I'm not tiring of the new records My Morning Jacket, Dawes and the Tedeschi Trucks Band despite grinding all three to a pulp the last two weeks.

The song Michicant on the new Bon Iver (track #5) is my vote for song of the year, no question.

Re: OT: New Music?
The funny thing about the new Bon Iver is that I like the album as a whole more than any individual songs. The songs are very good, but none of them leap out at me the way "Skinny Love" or "Stacks" did (or "Blood Bank"). But I really love playing the whole disc. There's a great flow and mood throughout.
I concur with everyone who likes the new Foo Fighters. I'm not really that big of a fan, but their new album is solid from start to finish. Love the sound, the songs are really strong, and it manages to rock while still throwing in enough variety to keep it from getting repetitious.

New Wilco track, "I Might." I'm digging it, as John Stirratt's bass is pumped up!

No one can say this band doesn't take chances with its sound.
