I played Little Big Planet 2 with my daughter Saturday night and was able to get an update. I'm not sure if that was ever disabled. I was surprised when it happened though because I didn't expect it.
That's interesting. A couple other games I have played did not update this past weekend. I guess some things are up and some are not. Hopefully online play will be enabled soon.

Guys just an FYI. You don't need to be signed into PSN to get most updates i.e. game patches. You have to with XBL. The only time you need to be signed in is if it's written into the game i.e. GT5. You can get most updates without signing in. MLB requires you to sign in before getting roster updates.

Toon, start a Motorstorm Apocalypse thread. I love the series and i'm looking forward to the game when it drops in price.

Also TW Masters needs you to sign in. I missed the daily tourneys so that I ended up renting the 360 version.

I wonder what the odds of the PSN crashing when it finally does come back online are? I would imagine their network will get flooded initially.

This is called going the extra mile. It's too bad it took a month, law suits and the company getting slammed to actually get them to step up but still.

Hoping against hope they get PSN back up for the weekend. I've got some time that I'd love to put into Motorstorm.

I'm to the point that I could care less about fraud and want freaking to have PSN back up. It sucks to have Apocalypse and not be able to try it online.

From that link.

As you’ve heard us say, our utmost priorities are the security of the network and ensuring your data is safe. We won’t restore the services until we can test the system’s strength in these respects.

Maybe they learned something?

If anyone wants a laugh over all this, follow fake_psn on twitter. Some pretty good stuff:

"@Fake_PSN To help customers in these trying times, we're signing you all up for a free (trial) membership to FreeCreditReport.com."

"@Fake_PSN When you first sign on to PSN 2.0, it will ask you if you are a hacker. For security purposes please answer truthfully."

ho ho.

I was at a Gamestop this weekend picking up a used SBK game, and the tweenish looking kid in front of me was there trading in his PS3 and entire (40-ish) game collection. Dudes behind the counter said 'PSN situation?" before the customers could say anything, which the mom then wholeheartedly confirmed. Said she didn't want any more part of that mess. Based on the employee's reaction, I asked him if he was seeing a lot of that, and he said they had been getting quite a few, yes.

Kid switched over to a 360.

This whole fiasco is costing Sony a helluva lot of money between trying to defend current and upcoming lawsuits. On top of that it's costing them more by giving stuff away. Still I wouldn't get rid of the PS3 because of this hack on their system. We live in the age of the internet it happens a lot and more than we know.

But Microsoft doesn't really need to say the obvious or rub Sony's nose in the ground because MS is a software company and XBL is basically a closed system. XBL is considered the defacto standard in online gaming. The only trouble MS ran into the past were phishing techniques on XBL customer service so information was inappropriately given away by humans and not by a hack to their system.

That does seem kinda silly....Especially if you already own a 360. You watch blu rays and you play games on it. Online console gaming is an XBL thing. Ive had two PS3 for a few years now and I have never even thought of playing online with them.

This fiasco just empahsizes how little sony cares about it.

I wouldn't count on any system being foolproof.

Troubles started because the security system used on the PS3 was hacked by people looking to put Linux back on the system.

Original Xbox was hacked to run XBMC and pirated games. And in the past month, a service used by big sites of all kinds was breached and people came to learn about Epsilon.

If MS wants to crow and say their system is hack-proof, they can go for it, see what happens when they put a big target on themselves.

PSN had other failings before it was hacked.

But really, it's best to limit entrusting your credit cards with a 3rd-party if possible. For instance, if you're not actively using Paypal, no reason to keep it current with your latest credit cards. If you pay bills monthly, it's unavoidable because adding and deleting cards from some sites is a real hassle. But for an occasional transaction?

It's just too difficult for me to feel any sympathy at all for anyone on any side of this. Sony needs to be taking it down a few notches, take their customers more seriously and accept the fact that the glorious days of the the PS1 and PS2 are behind them. Now despite all the inconvenience, I am in no rush to get rid of my 2 machines, one which I use to play the odd PS2 game still. What I am pissed off about Sony is that it took a full week for them to make a public statement accepting the fact that PSN was hacked. During that week alone, millions of users could have taken preventive actions if Sony were more proactive about the issue instead of being reactive, and nonchalant about the whole mess.

But that seems to be the Japanese culture. A similar thing happened with the Nuclear Reactors. They gave the impression that knew what they were doing and everything was under control. They told their citizens not to worry until it was too late and sh*t hit the fan. But yes I do agree they are living off their past.

Sony PSN restoration targets end of May
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... end-of-may

"A spokesperson for Sony Japan has warned that PlayStation Network may not be fully operational again until 31st May. Shigenori Yoshida told Bloomberg that the plan was to "restart services fully" by that day. As of today, PSN has been offline for 19 days. The service went down on 20th April. Should the PSN restoration go the distance, the online platform will have been unusable for 41 days.

Playstation 3: It only does offline.

Just go back to the PS2 setup when developers were responsible for their own online.

EA Sports online was actually more usable as you could see where your friends were, including where they were in a game. You can't even find your PSN friends in the same FIFA room.
