Thanks, guys. I'm going to give it a shot, see how I handle it.

As far as morning vs evening workouts, morning is definitely more convenient time-wise, but I NEED the stress reducing effects of them more in the evening (AFTER work) than I do in the morning, so I sacrifice some quality evening time to get them in.

Someone I work with works out in the morning. I started thinking about it and it makes sense. My biggest problem with working out is it was usually done after work, after dinner when I want to relax. My job is leaving for work at 7:15 getting home at 6:00.

If I get up earlier, work out before I go to work, it is out of the way. I am not thinking about it all day trying to find the time. I can enjoy my evening. The last few days I have been getting up earlier (5:30) and I feel pretty good about it.

Anyone else do this?

BTW, the P90X workout, specifically, the Plyo, gives you a lower impact option when jumping and such. One of the participants does the lower impact so you can follow along.

I run in the mornings. Years ago I use to run at nite, but once I had my daughter that all changed. Kind of hard to be a Dad and get a good long run in the evenings. I'm usually up anywhere between 5:30AM and 6AM. I run anywhere between 6-10 miles. Even though it is tough to first get going, by then end, I am feeling great. Every now and then Ill miss a morning and run after work. Those runs usually are pretty bad. Maybe Im just used to running in the morning, or maybe I'm wore out after work, but those runs just aren't as strong.

I would LOVE to convert my brain to mornings. My wife is up by 5:30 a.m. every morning and usually either on the road, running with her girlfriends, or doing "boot camp" workouts with them, all at the tender age of 45!

But my addiction to nighttime probably is as strong as nicotine for some people. I always stayed up late in college, worked nights in the newspaper business for my first five years out of school. And I've had no commute since 1994, so it's easy for me to justify staying up until 1 a.m. or later every night. So I always box, ride, run or ski at lunch or in the evening.

You nailed the benefits of working out in the morning, Pete: It's done and dusted by 9 a.m. Plus morning exercise gives you a jolt to kick-start your day that caffeine can't even match.

One of these weeks, I'm going to do it. But my nocturnal tendencies are so damn strong. I think Clapton wrote "After Midnight" as my life anthem.

As a dad I don't really have the option of working out at night unless I would do so at 10:00 p.m. and I'm not about to do that. That leaves me with working out in the morning and I love it because you start your day with an endorphin rush and you just have high spirits all day because of it. I try to workout 3-5 days a week right now and give myself a couple of days where I can stay up late and sleep in a little the next day. I find if I don't workout to start my day the chances of me getting a workout in that day goes way down.

Check out the daily training routines of some of the world's elite fighters from the last 25 years in the links in this thread, and you'll see why boxers are among the most comprehensively fit athletes in the world:

I just wanted to chime in with a 'thanks' to all of those who gave feedback and impressions of the p90x program, both in this thread and in the one devoted specifically to it.

I'm midway through week 5 now, and my gains have been pretty impressive. I'm down about 16 lbs (need to lose about 30) and that's with some muscle gain. The first week was DAMN tough, but now I can't wait for the next time I see Tony and he kicks my ass. :D I needed all of the first four days of the first recovery week (week 4) but then I started to get antsy wanting to get going with the harder stuff again. I love the program, and if my gains in the latter two months even come close to month one, I'll be ecstatic.

I'm doing classic, and I do do some substitutions or modifications to the Plyometric stuff because of back concerns, but other than that I'm by-the-book.

I can tell that once it's over I'm going to want to hit the gym for some heavier, short rep stuff, but I can see myself repeating the program again after a while.

Anyway, it's the real deal and I'm really glad you guys talked about it.

Glad it is working web.

I'm doing P90X again, Ive also doing it along with Hip Hop Abs and I also picked up the two one on one ab videos with Tony. I got these because I had issues doing half the exercises in the Abx because of back issues. With AbX AbX2 and Iso Abs I can create a really kick ass ab workout.

The Hip Hop abs is also a nice 30-40 minute cardio routine that does some work on the abs. My wife likes that one so she is doing the program. I usually use it in the mornings, then do my P90X stuff at night.

So far the only program I didn't like from Team Beach Body was Insanity. I know Scoop did this one and if I was younger, or training for some kind of sport I would enjoy it more but for what I want Insanity was just too much.

Saw the infomercial over the weekend. I thought it was mostly for people on the go (which I don't mind) and mostly for women, but I could be wrong. Perhaps someone with the program can enlighten us.

I can comment to a point. It's going to get your heart going but don't expect the dramatic results they promise except over a very long haul. Also if you follow their program it gets to be more then 10 minutes. For example one day may be 2 different 10 minute programs if I recall correctly.

I looked at this for my wife and eventually went with hip hop abs which I also ended up doing. It has good cardio, it's fun and the time flies. However the workout vary from 20 minutes to 40 minutes. Like all the TBB programs it gradually build so by week 2 you'll be doing fat burning cardio (40 mins) and ab sculpting (20 mins). You'll never exceed 60 minutes with any of the combo's.

That looked interesting, but it seemed there was a lot of "gear" with it. Not sure I have the room for it all.

I'm 3 days in and all I can say is that Shaun T has taken Insanity to a new level. The first 3 workouts have been extremely challenging and I love it. As far as the gear is concerned, all you need is the ladder and either dumbbells or resistance bands. A jumprope is optional.

This time I am following the nutrition guide and am going to eat clean until my birthday at the end of June. 5-6 small meals per day. Pretty much just chicken, turkey, fruits and veggies and protein drinks. All whole grains and good fats and no carbs after my third meal. We'll see what kind of results I get. I would love a six-pack for my 39th birthday. It would be the first time in my life.

Took a break and now got to get back to the gym.

Lot of people seem to be doing INSANITY now. Seems like the next hot thing. How have your results been with INSANITY?

I did the old fashioned workout last year and was able to lose 12 lbs in about 2 months. Thinking of going back to that but it's soooooooo boring.
