Diablo25 wrote:I don't know if anyone has been watching Law and Order: Los Angeles since NBC retooled/recasted it and brought it back on last week but it has been very good. All three new episodes have been intense and well done. I'm not sure how the ratings have been but I'm enjoying it. The Chicago Code is also on Monday nights so I' get my fill of solid cop shows that night.
I use to watch Law and Order SVU but have not for a while, the story's kept getting more depressing and followed the same outline.

The only cop show I watch now is Hawaii Five-0. I had no interest in it, but turned it on by random one night and damn, the Hawaiian landscape just looks great in HD. Story line is pretty good too, but I don't like the main actor in the role. He has this weird NJ-ish accent but he's suppose to be from Hawaii in the series. Did a search on him and found out he's from Australia. So he' probably learned some east coast american accent for the role which really doesn't fit.

The 2nd guy is the short blonde guy from entourage and he's great, still playing the smart ass role in H50. And you have the guy who played Jin from LOST in the show and he does a great job as well.

The first episode directed by Scorsese was supposedly the most expensive TV show episode ever made. I've seen a few episodes...meaning to get back into it.

I loved every episode of Boardwalk Empire. GREAT casting and GREAT set design. Just a well done period piece.

Agreed. Plus the intro, accompanied by "Straight Up and Down" by the Brian Jonestown Massacre, kicks MAJOR ASS:

I don't recall any complaints, but there was a lot of speculation as whether people in Deadwood used MF'er, C-Sucker, and some of the others words in that particular era. I believe a number of historians supported the language as accurate.

Ya I enjoyed BE as well - one of the bigger complaints was that it was slow moving. I actually liked that, it was like the wire where they had to start slow to build up the story and characters, unlike network tv these days where it's cut throat and you better fasten everything up.

The other big complaint was that Buscemi wasn't a leading role guy and didn't/couldn't carry that series. Most of these complainers wanted James Gandalfini aka Tony Soprano to take that role and Buscemi as the brother cop. I think Buscemi did a good job and he did receive an emmy for the role.

But the guy who stole that whole season 1 was the pyscho cop Van Alden. The actor who played him should have been nominated for something. The guy looks and acted like he was actually brought out of a time machine from the 20s.

Abso-effing-lutely. Michael Shannon DESTROYED in that role. The scene in which he killed his partner at the river baptism was one of the most compelling pieces of TV I've seen in a long, long time.

Looking forward to seeing what that actor does with the role of General Zod in the new Superman movie. :)

Wow another rehash? I read that that English guy from The Tudors is playing superman. Also DD Lewis is going to play Abe Lincoln in Spielberg's film.

I remember the days when American iconic figures and American historical figures were played by American actors. What happened now? Seems like they're all played by Aussies or Brits. We don't have any good actors left in this country?

I actually kinda liked the new Superman movie, but everyone hated it and thought it was boring. Christopher Nolan is working on the new-new Superman, which supposedly is being made with Dark Knight sensibilities. Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner have already been cast. I guess we'll see.

wco81 wrote:Justified is terrific -- great dialog and plot arcs, interesting characters.

Some people compare it to Deadwood because Olyphant is in both shows. But Elmore Leonard source is more interesting. It's not about the wild west -- who knew there were so many gangsters in rural Kentucky?

First few episodes of season 1, they overplayed the "justified" theme -- the main character claiming to his federal marshall bosses that he had to shoot bad guys. But now they're delving into the baggage he's carrying.
Count me in as a big fan of Justified. Olyphant is great as usual. I like to compare it more like the hillbilly version of the Sopranos.

I didn't know that -- DD Lewis is by far my favorite actor, and I'm sure he'll do an awesome job with the part.

I'm too lazy :) to check if anyone discussed the Kennedy's mini series that aired earlier this month on The Reelz channel. I really enjoyed it. When I saw that The History channel turned it down after it's completion I figured it wasn't done well but I was wrong. Barry Pepper continues to be one of my favorite actors. He was awesome as Bobby Kennedy in the series. I felt the entire cast did a great job but Pepper was phenomenal as RFK. They captured the sadness of his assassination perfectly. I highly recommend it to you guys.

The director of "Restrepo" was killed today in Libya along with an acclaimed war photographer. They were shooting the Libyan rebels under attack in Misrata when they were mortally wounded. Tragic. RIP.

I agree. It was very entertaining.

That guy pimping his sister out was something.
They "pimped" sisters and daughters every day of every week for thousands of years. Arranged marriages, I do believe was the norm especially with royals.

Still...she was hot and the way they went about it was crazy! :P

Is anyone watching "The Killing" on AMC? I totally spaced on the start of this series after previews at the end of the "Mad Men" season tingled my interest.

Any good?

It's okay. It's based on a Danish show apparently and it's about the investigation of a single homicide case and all the season's episodes are about the progress in that case, following the investigating cops and the survivors of the victim and some suspects.

They emphasize the build-up as the investigation reveals more and more layers each ep.

Show is set in Seattle and the victim is a high school girl. Kind of stretches credulity about what high schoolers were up to. Or maybe it's the Danish teens.

Not sure how long these have been in Netflix but most of Ken Burn's documentaries are there. Even his recent major film on the National Parks. And the Civil War is there with of course Shelby Foote.
