Maybe he can relieve Bobrovsky in a first round game against the Lightning.Naples39 wrote:Run for cover, because Leighton is on re-entry waivers.
Dreger says he will likely be claimed though because, although the claiming team couldn't use him in this years playoffs, they'd have him locked up next year for $800k. You could certainly do worse than Leighton as your backup at that cost.

Flyers are officially in freefall. Last week of the season, difference between first and fourth in the conference on the line, playing against one of the worst teams in the league, and you lose 5-2?
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Hey, look at the 'Nuckers. As soon as they claim the President's cup they lost 2 in a row against the Oilers. You read correctly the bottom feeders in the west, but I am not too worried about it.Naples39 wrote:Flyers are officially in freefall. That is the attitude I had for the Flyers last month. I think it's still warranted for the Canucks after locking up the conference and best record in the league, comfortably.10spro wrote:Hey, look at the 'Nuckers. The Flyers on the other hand have lost 13 of 19, and 4 in a row. They are in imminent danger of slipping to 4th in the conference after being in first for 4 months.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
The playoffs are a completely different animal. I wouldnt worry so much about these last few games that really dont mean anything to the Flyers or Nucks.
Last year the Habs completely backed in with help from other clubs as they failed to win a game in the last week. They then went on to take out the top seed in the playoffs.....so just make sure you get good goaltending next week.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
These games are very important to the Flyers.
If the Flyers won their last 3 games, they would be guaranteed first place in the conference. They are now 1 point out of the 4 seed.
Trust me, if you had seen these games you'd see how hopeless their play is right now, and we're not talking about a few games--this lull has been going on for nearly a quarter of the season (19 games).

I just dont think the home advantage is as important in the NHL as it is in the more subjective league like the NBA or the WWE.Naples39 wrote:These games are very important to the Flyers.

You are right in that I havent seen the Flyers play..... I am just going by how incredibly bad the Habs were to end last season before they miraculously turned it around in the playoffs. Come to think of it they were also pretty shitty to finish the 85-86 season before they went with Roy in the playoffs.
I know Im not a Flyer fan so its easy for me to think they will win the east...Which I do.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
With the season dwindling down, these are my choices for the annual awards.
Calder: Got to give it to J. Skinner, only 18 years and a great future ahead of him. Special mention goes to Logan Couture.
Norris: My vote goes to Chara this year, he gets all the important minutes plays physical but despite not being suspended for at least a game or 2 for his infamous shove to Pacciorety, he's a horse in front of T. Thomas.
Vezina: When you got a guy like Zdeno clearing the garbage in front of the crease, things are much easier for Tim. Can't argue with this numbers though, just wished he played more than my other 2 choices. C. Price and P.Rinne from NAS.
J. Adams: What a great job J. Lemaire did when he took over a sinking Devils ship. They felt short in the end but Jacques still got it. Blysma will probably get the silverware for
a job well done despite all the injuries in PIT and a special mention to M. Crawford and B.
Trotz.
And the Hart trophy goes to... Daniel Sedin. Smart, lethal scorer, solid numbers throughout the season. Special mention should go to Ryan Kesler and J. Toews.

If there was any doubt about who is going to win the Hart trophy, it was answered last night. Your Hart winner is going to be Ducks forward Corey Perry.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Calder: Couture. More goals, better plus-minus and much better faceoff percentage than Skinner.
Norris: Visnovsky. He'll never win it because he's too low-profile, but he should. 67 points, +17.
Vezina: Thomas. Pretty easy pick.
J. Adams: Bylsma. Losing Crosby and Malkin would be a crippling blow for most teams. The Pens kept rolling along to another 100-point season due to the best overall bench boss in the game.
Hart: Perry by a whisker over Sedin. 50 goals, No. 2 in the league in scoring, +9, physical player. Became the big-time complete package this season. This should be a very close vote.

Visnovsky seriously benefits from being on a powerplay with Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan, Selanne and Koivu. I like the guy, he's a former King after all, but he's not enough of a complete package and Anaheim has always had a lethal powerplay.pk500 wrote:Calder: Couture. Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
The following are my picks, not who I think will necessarily get the awards:
Calder: Couture. I'm biased, but I don't care. He's the best overall rookie in the league right now. There's a few guys who have had great rookie seasons, but Couture seems to be a bit better rounded than the others.
Norris: Chara. There is no defenseman in the NHL who impacts the game more than Chara. Without Chara and Thomas the Bruins are fighting to get into the top eight as opposed to winning their division.
Vezina: Thomas. No contest here despite Price and Rinne being awesome this year.
Adams: Easiest choice of all the trophies -- Bylsma. Pit not only lost Geno and Sid, but had numerous other injuries to key players. It blew my mind how Pit continued to get points and stay near the top of the league despite playing with a slew of AHLers. Yes, talent wins games, but Bylsma showed this year that coaching does too.
Hart: Halfway through the season I thought it was between Sedin and Thomas. At the end of the season I have to go with Perry. I will watch the Ducks just to see Perry. The guy is a beast on the ice and is the best all-around player in the NHL at this moment. When I see Perry I see a throwback player with a ton of skill. Yeah, he's on the rival team of my Sharks, but I give the guy all the respect in the world, especially after he put a hatter on them last night.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
BIG BIG BIG 2 points for the Hawks last night. I want them to make the playoffs but I just don't see them being able to make a deep run this year. They are not physical enough nor healthy enough to do so. Even if they were completely healthy they just can't play tough, playoff hockey IMO. They are missing the size of Buff and Eager and the toughness of Burrish.
A Stars loss tonight would clinch a spot for the Hawks (I think) so go Lanche!

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
What's w/ the Hawks this year, why are they struggling to get into the playoffs? I know they lost all those big guys last year, but what made the front office thing they'd contend w/ all those guys gone? At least they should have resigned the goalie.
Look out for the sharks this year. This year they don't have the pressure on them to choke as previous years and they got a cup winning goalie on their side this year.
I'd love to see Sharks/Hawks round 1 if it happens.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
They had no choice with the cap. They've made several big free agent signings in the last few years (Campbell, Hossa), which put at the limit last season. Then to retain Kane, Toews and Keith, they paid them huge increases (like $13 million/year between the 3 of them). To keep those three, $13 million needed to go out the other end. Niemi also won in arbitration about a $3 million raise from last season to this year, which they couldn't afford.Lancer wrote:What's w/ the Hawks this year, why are they struggling to get into the playoffs? I would give the Adams to Alain Vigneault. The team over came a slew of injuries to get the top seed.
No surprise here

P.S........I do now think that Sedin did earn that trophy but Toews did give it a hell of a push down the stretch. Including a huge OT goal last night.

Lidstrom fits that bill much better than that creepy f*** chara. The only thing I would give that "thing" is an "accidental" brick to its face.

Rogers Arena was rocking last night not so much because of Kesler's hat trick or Luongo's shutout but Manny Malhotra 's presence during the President's trophy presentation. He was wearing cool sunglasses, and his presence alone seemed to spark the players and loud crowd. Continuos recovery Manny.
