Glad to hear you're liking the 360. I guess I can remove Lord Vader's face. :)

Xbox is alive... I think the opposite problem is there are too many titles compared back to the days when on old xbox there were only 3 or 4 good titles a year so this group always played those.

I was thinking about picking up a 360 4GB console, with the price being $199 and all (and coming with a couple games).

My question is about how far the 4GB will take me. I have no idea how big game saves are, etc...but I'm assuming I can play a few games at a time and saves will be no problem? I have no intention of doing anything on the console besides gaming.

Thanks!

If you don't plan on buying XBLA games then 4GB will last you a good long time maybe as long as you own the console. With the latest OS for the 360 you can use a USB Flash Drive I believe up to 64GB IIRC. Game saves on the 360 are usually very small, on average between half a meg and a couple of MB. It would take a couple of hundred saves to run out of space.

Yeah, it's not the game saves that take up the space, it's when you install the games to the hard drive to take advantage of that tech rather than just playing directly from the disc. It's not really that big of a deal because it only loads marginally faster, but it's nice to have if you grab the 250gb version.

I guess the other item of note would be demo games. Those usually clock in at about 1gb a piece, so you can have a few of those on your console while still having plenty of room for your game saves, so that isn't that big of an issue either.

I personally chose the bigger drive so that I can install the games I play when I got a new one recently just because I didn't want the wear and tear on the CD Drive...just another thing to break on an already iffy piece of hardware.

If it is only games that you want to play and you do not want to keep more than a demo or two on your 360 at one time then you should be fine with 4gb. You will be able to keep a lot of game saves on it. I can say that installing games is a pretty nice feature though, and 4gb will not get you far if you want to install games. 199 is a good deal for people who just want to straight-up play games.

The biggest advantage I see to installing to the drive is a huge noise reduction. The 360 drive is noisy as hell and annoying if you sit anywhere near it while gaming.

You'll be fine. I have the old 'white' xbox 360s with the 12/13 gb and I never even get below 10gb. I never install any games and only have downloaded maybe 3-4 games from arcade. EA's demo's tend to be the bigger ones around 1 - 2gb but I get rid of those fast.

I agree with Brando that the newer black 360 models are much more quieter and also look better - and if you ever intend to get Kinect, it's easier to plug into the black models. Also built in wifi is great on the black ones.

Plus, if you install your games, you save yourself from possible lockups.

I have installed all my 360 games since I got one last September. Even Halo 3, which actually loads a bit slower when installed.

I just love not having any DVD noises in the background when I'm playing games.

The funny thing is that there is a larger disparity between the games I want to play and the time I have to play them than ever. I haven't finished Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age: Origins. I play Black Ops and Rock Band 3 a lot and also NBA 2k11, plus I'm going to grab The Show soon. I have Fallout: New Vegas but haven't started it. And I would love get Alan Wake, Dead Rising 2, Limbo, Heavy Rain, and finally play the God of War Trilogy.

Obviously those titles are not all 360 only, but I don't see how console gaming is waning when I think there's more variety and choice than ever. Even sports games, which have suffered from lack of competition, have increased in quality a lot the last couple of years.

Plus it seems like you can power up a 360 these days without having to offer a bucket of chicken to Jobu first. :D

Thanks again for the advice guys...

I ended up buying the 250GB model to take advantage of the hd install feature. Found a nice bundle with Splinter Cell:Conviction and Assassin's Creed 2 :)

The other good part of the Best Buy trip was stumbling upon "Mass Effect 1 - Platinum Edition" (I didn't realize this existed) that features extra DLC, artwork, documentary, etc...I am giddy just thinking about playing this game (only played #2).

Not so sure I love the shiny black finish, but it was cool to play around with my new toy. Nice to see that XBLA game trials load so quickly too - Limbo took hardly any time at all.

I'm planning on getting the 4gb slim with the matte finish and just upgrading the HD when a good deal comes out.

I just like the matte look way more than the shiny black.

With this deal and the fact that the 250 gb hard drive is on sale for $99, you can basically get a 250gb for $250. Beside the different hard drive capacities and the matte finish, are there any other differences between the 4gb and the 250gb? My elite rrod'd and I'm looking to upgrade to a slim. Any reason to pay more for the regular 250gb, as opposed to buying the 4gb and adding the bigger hardrive for $50 less?

Thanks

I have both a new 250gb and a 4gb and I like the black matte finish on my 4gb over the shiny finish on the 250gb.
