I picked it up. Having a hard time getting into it. It feels so much like 10, even with all the changes.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
A few random thoughts during my first couple games.
-The new broadcast cameras are awesome, and playing from a different camera at each stadium will add a lot of freshness to the game.
-LOVE the analog pitching, as said before by myself and others. Feels right, and you will definitely be giving up walks.
-There is definitely more of a randomness to defense that I think I like. Whereas in past editions, there was more of an automatic feeling to fielding, now things are a little bit more of an adventure with offline throws, drops, balls getting over OF heads, etc. Is it too much? I don't know yet, but it's refreshing to see after the static nature of fielding in past versions.
-Threw a guy out who tried to score after tagging up. Awesome. Can't remember the last time I did that in The Show.
-Speaking of fielding, not sure yet what I think of analog fielding. It feels good, and I think it adds a variable of randomness to what can happen on the field. I agree with others that at times there seems to be a delay when trying to throw. Still experimenting with how to pre-load throws to limit the delay, especially on double plays, which seem harder to pull of with this implementation.
-One thing I do like about analog controls is the fact that if you don't line up your throw perfectly (say pressing up to throw to 2nd on a steal attempt) the throw will go offline in the direction you pushed the stick. Cool.
-One last thought about defense is that the fielders have more momentum. You can't just push the stick in circles and have the fielders dart in every direction. Move the stick in an opposite direction and they will stop, plant, and turn in that direction. Takes a little getting used to, but cool.
-Have not meesed with analog hitting because I think I prefer the button pressing. I may mess around with it, but I don't necessarily see how it's more intuitive to do it that way as opposed to pitching and maybe defense?
-Default All-Star plays well, although maybe I've hit more homers than usual on this level? Anyone else?

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I went back to the buttons for infield throws to avoid that little delay which feels like a player is taking that extra step to figure out which base he's going to throw it at, but with the buttons it's almost impossible to catch someone stealing from 1st to 2nd as the catcher seems to always adjust the ball taken out of the glove before he throws it.AJColossal wrote:

I had a couple playing the Jays vs the NYY but the AI had easily as many on that level.AJColossal wrote:Default All-Star plays well, although maybe I've hit more homers than usual on this level? Anyone else?

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I haven't had any problems with delayed throws so long as I pre-load throws with the right thumbstick with the same timing I used to use with the buttons.
I'm going to stick with analog hitting. It seems you have a little control over directionality of your swing left and right but the location and size of your PCI is mostly determined by attributes and timing. It's basically the analog hitting from MVP '06.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
My brief thoughts.
- Love the analog pitching, but I am not sure I want to spend this much time pulling and pushing the thumb stick. It certainly makes pitching harder which is a good thing.
- Analog hitting was pretty easy for me to pick up but I really don't see what it adds to the game. I'll go back to pressing buttons soon I am sure.
- I don't field, I always use auto fielding so I can't comment on fielding but I do like the analog throwing it feels natural. I didn't try it to see if the fake throws work while using this mode. One thing that has always bugged me about the show is the throwing meters and sometimes the animations are so fast but that is a minor nitpick.
I didn't think I would even notice but they nailed the Cubs pitching camera. I like the new stats overlays. I still think the interface is overwhelming in terms of choosing options etc but not sure how you can solve that for a game that gives you so many choices.
Oh and Erik Karos or whomever that new announcer is sucks.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I was using the buttons and noticed this. I'm not sure if it's a delay, or just a slight herky-jerky motion as the fielder releases the ball, it's not a natural or fluid motion. Maybe this has something to do with this new fielders' momentum thing? I've only played one game so far, I'll have to pay more attention. And it's very slight, barely noticeable. If The Show wasn't such a smooth game to begin with, we probably wouldn't be noticing it at all.10spro wrote:I went back to the buttons for infield throws to avoid that little delay which feels like a player is taking that extra step to figure out which base he's going to throw it at, but with the buttons it's almost impossible to catch someone stealing from 1st to 2nd as the catcher seems to always adjust the ball taken out of the glove before he throws it.AJColossal wrote:

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I don't preload as much as I should and there's a delay and some throws. Mostly because I think the R-Stick is also for moving and diving. But also the animations get bogged down, like someone taking an extra step. If I max out the power, the player shouldn't take that extra step rather he shoudl just fire it even if it's an error. That's what maxing out should do. Instead the player, with take that one more step to get his feet under him.Slumberland wrote:I haven't had any problems with delayed throws so long as I pre-load throws with the right thumbstick with the same timing I used to use with the buttons.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Got the PSP version in the mail today. I am about to load it up and play. Will post some impressions after I play for a few hours.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Played 2 full games and fooled around with some of the other stuff with the PSP version. I did not play 10, but played 09. The gameplay feels about the same as always, with the CPU pitcher AI being better than in 09. The graphics are definitely improved. Load time for a game is around a minute, but once loaded the game moves very fast. The menus are really nice now. Still an offensive oriented game with default sliders, however there are plenty of sliders to make for less offense if so desired. Lots of features for a PSP title. Not sure if I can say much more at this point other than this game is a lot of fun and looks and sounds great.

I haven't bought the PSP version in a few years. The PS3 version is Sony's flagship game and roster updates and patches will be addressed there than on the PSP version.toonarmy wrote:Played 2 full games and fooled around with some of the other stuff with the PSP version. Opening day rosters won't be out for another month. I don't want to start a season now.
I wish they would put in the playoffs. I would play that over and over again until I can start my season. That's the one thing missing from this game. Plus in November when I want to fire this game up again, it's pointless because you can never get the playoffs.
It doesn't make the game bad but I would like a playoff mode.

Really digging the RTTS mode. Started a career as a LF and the Marlins drafted me. I'm off to a quick start in AA. Thru 6 games I'm hitting .429 7 RBI and a HR. FUN.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Can anyone confirm this? I swear I went to ign earlier today, & they had the show review at 7.5. I went back to ign a few mins ago, & it was now 8.0. I don't plan on buying the show either way, but was wondering if anyone else saw the same thing?? The only diff I can tell between 7.5 & 8.0 is some little bi-line that now says "great".

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I ended up switching to "classic" pitching midway through my game last night vs the Mets. It's not that I don't enjoy analog pitching, but I find that I'm focusing all my attention on the analog meter. I pretty much miss out on pitcher's delivery. Classic pitching seems a lot more realistic this year, whereas in '10, it seemed the ball would go wherever for no rhyme or reason. I'll probably go back and forth between these two, but the pace of the game felt a lot better. You still have to determine how long to hold down the button in terms of how much velocity and emphasis you want to throw that particular pitch. It kind of reminds me of the old High Heat game in that respect.
So, as of right now, I'm going with analog fielding, timing with hitting, and classic with pitching. I love having these options along with the different skill levels for each category as well.

For the time being I'm just running a 14 game season. Like a sprint to the playoffs.
Luis Castillo hit a walk-off homer for me to dead center of Citi Field in the 12th inning last night. I thought the game was realistic, but oh well.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Had a crazy play last night. Reyes of the Mets swung and missed on strike three, however the ball was dropped by Molina. I quickly hurried and threw to first but the ball sailed way over Pujols and down in to the right field corner. Berkman threw it back in and hit the cutoff man. Reyes was content at stopping at third, but I wanted to be sure I got the ball back in to Molina just to be safe. Well, I over threw Molina and the ball sailed to the backstop. Reyes took off for home, Molina chased down the ball and threw to Garcia who was covering home. Tagged Reyes out by a foot and ended the inning. Talk about a comedy of errors!

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I have noticed a lot of throwing errors in my few games with analog throwing. I had it set to all star and I was seeing 4-5 a game, I know some of that has to do with me jamming on the meter but I don't know if I can use this mode with those kind of numbers.

I think they just want you to be hitting true 90, 180, 270, etc. when using analog throwing, but your thumb sits on the stick at an angle, naturally, and not all of us hold the controller perfectly straight, so in the heat of the moment it's easy to flick it inaccurately.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Well...started my season 0-4 so far. Can't hit for sh*t even tho I went down to Veteran w/ the zone hitting (timing and location based)...so yeah, this game is much tougher than last years. The pitching of course is a LOT harder when using the analog version so that is about right. I think my team era is somewhere around 4.25...however, I'm only scoring 2-3 per game so that gives me the lovely zero win record.
