As for Lights Out, I'm definitely loving it. It's one of the few shows I look forward to each week when Mad Men isn't on.

Funny you guys mention Larry Sanders and Lights Out. Probably my two favorite shows right now. I "acquired' all of the Larry Sanders seasons a few weeks ago and I've started loading them on my mp3 player to watch on the treadmill at the gym. It's the perfect show for getting in some cardio and its damn funny. Kind of embarrassing to be doing some cardio and laughing out loud by yourself. LOL.

Definitely some great characters (except Leary's wife...ugh, bad choice there)...and I'm really digging where the show is going. I've heard the ratings are pretty bad tho, so I wouldn't get too attached if I were you PK.

I used to love the Larry Sanders show. I agree about Hank and Artie, great characters.
I'm digging Lights Out too but I'm a little disappointed in the actual fighting aspect so far. The cage fight with Bas Ruten was a joke and the boxing they have been showing is way over the top. I'd like it better if they made the fighting more realistic but I do really like the storyline.

I thought the show was a goner when FX showed the preview of the rest of the season at the end of last night's episode. The writers are trying to cram every possible plot line -- comeback, marital problems, brotherly discord, corruption in boxing, the mob, etc. -- into this debut season, which led me right away to think this show is one and done.
Too bad, as it's a hell of a show.

I'm digging The Chicago Code.

I also have to echo a sentiment that Tosh.0 is a really funny guilty pleasure. It's more creative than it would seem, even if it does often go for the low-hanging comedy fruit.

I'll like it even more when I stop thinking of The Shield (Chicago Code was created by Shawn Ryan) when I'm watching it.
Re: The really great TV thread
Anyone catch the show called Justified? Any good? Someone recommended it to me at work. I'll try to look for it this weekend.
And where can you find episodes for LIghts Out? I checked ON Demand and they only have 3 episodes on there from mid season. Anywhere they have Ep 1 for someone like me who has never watched the show and wants to start from the first episode?

Hulu has episodes 3-6.

Justified is good, based on Elmore Leonard book or script.
It takes place in a small town in KY or TN, lot of hillbilly accents.
Still, well-drawn out characters

Pk : can you give me a non illegal site if you have one? i went over there and I have to register but the only way to do it is get an invite from someone who is already a member. Is this site some kind of scam to get me signed up to Amway?pk500 wrote:http://www.tvtorrents.comLancer wrote:And where can you find episodes for LIghts Out? I saw one episode on demand tonight called BOLO. Very interesting show! I got hooked from the beginning. I can see how sports fans would love this! I just wish I could have watched from episode 1 instead of mid way thru. But thanks anyway for the heads up about this show. Really enjoy the actors too.

If you're hitting the torrent sites why not just go to btjunkie? They have all of the episodes and you don't have to register.

I don't know anything about these torrent sites. I asked someone about it after PK sent me the link and they said they are all illegal. So maybe I'll just wait for the DVD to come out.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Yep, most torrents are illegal. But even if your morals are stricter than mine, think about this: Are you really stealing something when you're downloading a show that already has appeared on basic cable or satellite, especially if your TV package includes FX?Lancer wrote:I don't know anything about these torrent sites. You're not seeing the commercials, which raise money for FX. But does anyone watch commercials in this era of TiVo and DVR?

Re: The really great TV thread
The short answer is: yes. If someone is willing to buy, rent, or Netflix a show, but goes the torrent route, it does have a financial impact on the writers, actors, etc. They get residuals on all of that(plus studio's home video department). It's a Wonderful Life has probably aired on every possible format you can think of, so downloading it this week is ok? I've downloaded my share of music (and have had my own music "shared" as well), but I don't kid myself.pk500 wrote:Yep, most torrents are illegal. I finally got around to knocking off the last 4 eps of Walking Dead. Loved it despite the incredibly inconsistent writing. The production values and compelling underlying story kept me hooked, and I thought the finale was excellent.

Don't forget the hard working crew as well. While we don't get residuals or any of that, the rates that are negotiated in our contract plus the contributions to our health insurance and pensions are all based upon revenues and those numbers are severely negatively impacted by piracy of all forms. It's not just the studio fat cats and high profile celebrity actors that lose out on a little extra bonus cash. There are a lot more people in the industry that are affected in the way they can make a living.greggsand wrote:pk500 wrote:Lancer wrote:

Re: The really great TV thread
I don't know the state of the TV business but movies are seeing record box office revenues and presumably good home video, PPV revenues as well.
Torrents aren't affecting the business. As with music, it all comes down to whether they can put out a product people are willing to pay for.
The TV business is certainly generating a lot of money. Cable bills are high and networks force cable companies to carry a lot of channels and combined they force you into packages of channels you don't even want. Then they play little games with each other, with some channels being kept off certain cable systems. Meanwhile they collude to make sure Google TV and the like will never become a viable alternative to the current setup.
Meanwhile, they throw out $45 million a year to Charlie Sheen to fuel his coke habits and there are probably a half dozen producers out of the public eye who probably get at least that much in syndication, video and international distribution. If the working people in TV production aren't getting paid, then maybe they should look into another line of work. It's like waiters saying they're not getting enough tips or overall compensation. Maybe find something else to do? Because the iniquities in pay in that business won't be changed too much because a small number of people don't buy DVD box sets or "cut the cord."
