Oh you crazy cardinal fans. You put on a brave face saying no big deal but you know as soon as he is gone you'll be crying. You're not fooling anyone and I wouldn't blame you one bit. I'm still in mourning that Andruw went to the Yankees.

Eh, if the cards weren't such a franchise with a long history of success, I'd be more panicked. Cards won before without him, they'll win again. ALL OF THAT SAID, I'm still feeling good about them working out a deal at some point this season. My bigger concern is fans turning on him towards the end of the season (as the free agent talk really fires up) making it easier for him to say 'I'm out of here".

My God I hope the Cubs don't go for him. Great player, maybe greatest right hand hitter ever. But what an albatross of a contract that will be as he gets older and those skills start to diminish. Cubs have lots of money coming off the payroll after this season, time to give some of those young kids a chance to play. No sense in putting yourself back in a trick bag for one player, regardless of how good he is.

unfortunately the Cards set themselves up for this, last off-season. By all accounts the Cardinals bid against themselves for Matt Holliday. At time of the signing, i was wondering if they would compromise their past/current business model to retain Pujols.


maybe there were 'mystery' (i hate that term) offers to Holliday from other GM's which were never made known, and the Cardinals were in a catch-22...

Jays and J. Bautista settle on a 5 year term worth 64 million. To many it's an uwarranted gamble based on a superb year by the hard working outfielder. But with Wells and Halladay long gone, TO needed a new face to lead this franchise and I can't think of better player and person than Jose to lead the way. He's a versatile player, 30 years old and can play in different positions. Expecting big things from him.

Yeah, I'm optimistic as well.

At this point, you have to give Anthopolous the benefit of the doubt. We can all speculate as to whether he was a one-year wonder, but Alex and his diligent staff obviously feel comfortable moving forward at approx. $13M a year with him. He's proved to be pretty savvy thus far.

Even being pessimistic, I don't see the contract ever becoming an albatross like Wells' contract was. Paying Bautista $13 in 2015 is a lot less than paying Vernon $20M+ in 2011.
