OT: Annual Valentine's Day Gift Ideas Thread

Post by JackB1 »

OK, lets share ideas, so us husbands/boyfriends can come up with some nice gifts for the ladies this year :)

My idea is a day at the spa, with a massage and or facial/manicure/etc. Always a great gift for the women.

Nothing but a card. The same thing my wife and I give to each other every Valentine's Day.

My wife and I both think Valentine's Day is one of the more bullsh*t "holidays" of the year because we don't like an industry or society telling us the one day we should show special affection for each other. Sounds corny, but we believe any day can be Valentine's Day, not Feb. 14.

We agree totally with you guys. We usually designate something we were going to buy anyway as a "gift" (this year I'm getting some cold weather running gear) just to play along. I can buy flowers spontaneously 4 times throughout the year for the price they charge at VD.

Absolutely. Birthday and our anniversary are big-ticket days. Fancy dinner on both days, including a dozen roses on anniversary.

I'm also in the card camp for Valentine's Day, though I usually add a box of chocolates from See's. For our girls (5 and 7), it's a little different. They get a little present and something nice. V-Day is still exciting for them, though.

Agreed. Same here. Doesn't sound corny to me. Everyday is Valentines day in our house. We've been digging on each other for 35 years. 30 as husband and wife. We do go all out to celebrate our anniversaries. The day we first met and our wedding day. I look at it like this,if you need someone to tell you to do something special for your wife or girlfriend on Feb 14th,you need to evaluate your relationship.

Guys. Doing something for your girl on a prescribed date isn't a surprise. It's fabricated. Be original. Spontaneousness actions draw outstanding reactions.

Valentines Day is all about my daughter now. My wife and I never really got into it but when you have a little girl in the house you can't help but cave in and give her a little treat. I'm assuming when Jake gets older he's not going to be into it. Boys don't care about Valentine's Day, right?

I try to only give 6 out of 8 inches on Valentine's day...the other two are for special occasions.

I don't know if I believe all you guys can pull off showing up with nothing on V-day?
PK, I can believe, but the rest of you??? :)

Of course it's great to give flowers or tokens of your affection thoughout the year spontaneously.
But there's nothing wrong with ALSO showing a little appreciation on V-day.

Agreed. I don't care what a woman says, she appreciates something on Valentine's Day, whether it be a card or something bigger.

Another pet peeve: Why is Valentine's Day always seen as a one-way holiday, the guys showering gifts on their female partners? The broads don't need to spread any sugar Feb. 14?

Yet another reason why Valentine's Day is utter bullshit.

Sugar walls maybe?

She can have Valentine's Day, our anniversary and her birthday...as long as I get the rest.

We never treated it that way. It has always been a 2-way thing with us for as long as we have been together.

Paul, get your wife something nice for vday this year. Since you never do, it will be "spontaneous" :) She won't be expecting anything and it will be a nice surprise :)

I bought 18 assorted roses with vase and chocolates for $57 and some change. That's good enough for my beautiful wife.

Agreed. Nothing like telling your girl "I love you" because Pro Flowers,Kay,Zales and Hallmark told me to
Valentines Day is for elementary school kids and guys trying to get laid by a new girlfriend. Then again what do I know? I've only got 30 years of marriage to a beautiful loving happy wife. :D

Hang in there Paul. We have enough sheep in the world. Keep running with the bulls.

While 75% of chocolate purchases are made by women all year long, during the days and minutes before Valentine's Day, 75% of the chocolate purchases are made by men. Over $1billion of chocolate is purchased for Valentine's Day.
Bhaaa.

PS. I feel the same way about Mothers/Fathers Day,Sweetheart's Day and Veteran's Day. If you need to be told, don't bother.

Very well said. Valentine's Day is Feb. 14 -- nothing more.

My mother always chafes when I call from Indy on Mother's Day. Her reply is almost the same every year: "Thank you, Paulie. But every day should be Mother's Day, not just this day."

Mother is a smart broad. :)

The other thing that frosts my ass about Valentine's Day is that there are tons of guys who treat their wives like sh*t or run around on them -- trust me, I'm not implicating ANYONE here at DSP -- and think sins are forgiven if they buy flowers, a diamond necklace or a nice dinner for their significant other on Valentine's Day. It's almost like one day of showering love and kindness gives them a hall pass to be a dirtbag for the other 364 days per year.
