NCAA Season 2010

So I guess no Nat Champ or BCS Bowl game prospects for them in the upcoming future.
Re: NCAA Season 2010
So I'm usually late to the party on cool videos, but didn't see anyone post this here so thought I would share it. This guy was UConn's third string QB last season and has put together the most amazing bunch of trick shots I have ever seen. Not sure how many takes it took to do some of these, but they are amazing. I've watched this all the way through several times and I do not think it is doctored in any way -- just real amazing skill.

Re: NCAA Season 2010
I've watched many UConn games and my first question is why is this guy the #3 QB.

Well, looks like my Canes are now on the chopping block. The text messages that Rod brought up in the first post of the this thread are laughable now.

And which program is next? I mean they are all dirty...it's just a matter of time before they get caught.

Sounds like the Canes to me. Bounties for hurting opponents and abortions are a little surprising, but really...what wouldn't surprise you about the Canes? At a cost that Shapiro estimates in the millions of dollars, he said his benefits to athletes included but were not limited to: cash, prostitutes, entertainment in his multimillion-dollar homes and yacht, paid trips to high-end restaurants and nightclubs, jewelry, bounties for on-field play (including bounties for injuring opposing players), travel and on one occasion, an abortion.
And which program is next? I mean they are all dirty...it's just a matter of time before they get caught.

The funny thing is that most Americans would not watch an NFL minor league, yet that is exactly what they are watching with NCAA football, with a championship system that resembles a beauty pageant and figure skating competition to boot.dbdynsty25 wrote:

I don't consider it anything close to an NFL minor league, because I couldn't give two shits about the NFL. Or the NBA. Or any other whiney-assed, overpaid bunch of grown men (the word "men" used loosely for many of them).
I love college football.
The NFL lockout wouldn't have phased me in the least. Let 'em sit at home, unemployed for a bit.

Problem with this logic is you are watching a bunch of whiny ass, over paid men you just don't know it.Teal wrote:I don't consider it anything close to an NFL minor league, because I couldn't give two shits about the NFL. The NCAA's seeming use of players to enrich itself plays into that in its own way.

A little??Teal wrote:No, sorry, I'm sure it happens a little, but I'm just not that cynical.
Did we forget about Ohio State? How about Tennessee in basketball?
If this hold true over 78 players, many now those whiny pro athletes you hate are involved. Lets not forget the whole deal last year with Auburn, that will be exposed within the next 5 years. Hell Tyrell Pryor is now trying to admit to more wrong doing so he can be officially kicked out of school instead of voluntarily leaving so he can declare for the NFL draft! But hey lets not be cynical.
The NCAA can't keep their own house clean, has archaic practices and is about nothing more then making money at this level. Sure maybe only 20% of the players are involved but those 20% are the stars, the ones only playing to get to the NFL where they can become even richer and ignore more rules. If the NFL let players come out without going to college like the NBA college football would become an even bigger joke then it currently is.
You want to see athletes in college playing for the pure love of sport? Then go watch a Lacrosse game, or women's soccer game etc. Those are your real student athletes.

Re: NCAA Season 2010
Whatever. There's a real hope that something shakes out of Auburn, but it won't amount to anything. All that's ever been, outside of Newton's daddy trying to sell him to Miss. State, is conspiracy theory and hot air. It's all bullshit. But hey, believe whatevery you like. If, and it's an ENORMOUS if, something ever comes of the whole Auburn focus, then I'll join in the cacophany of noise and condemnation, but as of right now, and I will say it without hesitation, it's just cynics or haters, who think that if it's awful, if it's bad, if it could possibly be anything other than on the level, then it MUST be. From where I sit, there's nothing to it. Nothing. Other than what is already out there, which carries precisely ZERO connection to Auburn. Zero. They've said as much already. They'll dig to China before their digging turns up anything connecting Auburn to it.
But hey, if you want to insist that Murphy and his Law is the only law in the land, go ahead.
There's scandals everywhere, in every facet of every kind of thing. It doesn't mean that the whole damned thing is like that. Yes, I have no love for the NFL. Yes, it is partially because there are no NFL teams in our state. But I don't even think that is the reason. Pro teams of various sports have come through this state, and gone, because we just don't care about 'em. You are more of an NFL guy, and alot of you are. Fine. There's some bullshit in college sports. There's some bullshit in the NFL. This stupid thing with the lockout, the owners, the union...I really didn't give a damn if they got it 'worked out'. That's just me. I can't stand the exhorbitant salaries these people get for playing a game. If that makes me 'short-sighted' or whatever, then fine. I'll just be short sighted, in your opinion. If you think I'm naive, I'm not, but you can think that if you want to. I know there's some trouble in the sport. But, like you, I love my sport of choice. And, like you, I don't much care for the other. I think pro players should STFU and play-they get paid more to play a game than everyday people get paid to do work that matters. You probably don't see it that way. Okay.
You love the NFL, I'd wager, and therefore, you will overlook some of the problems in your enjoyment of the sport. That's what I'm doing, too. I know it's there, but if that's all I spend my time looking at, I won't enjoy it, or anything else, for very long.

Re: NCAA Season 2010
Wow Teal way to generalize and to make a whole lot of assumptions about me, put words in my mouth etc. When did I ever call you naive? You seem to want to make this personal like I am attacking a family member. Just because I think a lot of what is happening in the sport now is a joke doesn't mean I am not a fan of college athletics. If you think the way the system is now is fine, or if you don't care and just enjoy watching the game then that is your right just as it is mine to say the college system is nothing but a starter program for the diva attitudes shown by pro athletes.
To get back to the topic I'm not sticking up for the NFL, if they had any kind of backbone they would work with the NCAA to ensure stuff like this doesn't happen. Imagine if the NFL said if a player is found guilty of illegal violations like say taking cash or a car they would not be eligible for the draft for 5 years you think that might clean some of this up? You think Reggie Bush cares he lost his Heisman or if USC has to forfeit a national championship? You think he would of thought twice that if he got caught by time he was eligible for the draft he would be irrelevant?
Without repercussions there is no reason to change. The best thing that could happen out of this if it is true is that Miami's football program gets the axe. That might send a message to the coaches and players. However what will likely happen is a retroactive punishment that doesn't affect anyone who was involved, just the poor college athlete who is not on scholarship, won't go to the NFL and doesn't partake in this kind of bullshit. That's the guy / girl who is getting the shaft that I feel bad for.
