I watched much of it too so I could relive the pain I felt as 13 yr oldGTHobbes wrote:I shouldn't be up this late but am really enjoying the full game rebroadcast of SB XIV between the Steelers and Rams that the NFL Network is showing. I remember watching this game wearing my Steeler helmet as an 8 year old kid back in January 1980. I've always loved the old NFL Films' highlight videos of the old SBs but it's awesome getting to see the full game with Lambert and Shell and Blount, etc., playing in their prime against an unheralded Rams team that almost pulled it out.

It is funny though...As I watched, I still kept hoping that Nolan Cromwell would not drop the easy pick six, that Rod Perry would not miss time his jump after the blown coverage on that 3rd and long , that Vince Ferragamo would see the wide open Billy Waddy but nope....just like every year none of that happened and the Steelers still won.
Re: NFL Season 2010
Adam Carolla and Kevin Hench noted that Plexico, who scored the game-winning TD in the SB a couple of years ago, has been in jail for shooting himself in the leg.
Meanwhile, Ben is basking in the glory despite his shenanigans.
Can't put too much stock in Ben never being prosecuted. Sounds like a case of some star-struck cops in a small town letting him slide while probably some ambitious NY DA tried to make a name for himself/herself by going after a well-known athlete.
Of course if Plexico had done what Ben did in that small Georgia town ...

Re: NFL Season 2010
I ALWAYS hate when the NFL season ends but at least this year there is a BIG bright side.
I wont have to watch on tv or read on a message board anymore ass kissing OR bashing of ben the super goon.

The weather in Dallas really makes me wish they would play this in the snow. Ditch the neutral site and let it be a real home game.

Re: NFL Season 2010
If they want to clear all of that white powder in Dallas why not just set Michael Irvin loose outside of the stadium?

Would be nice, but you're not going to get a bunch of lawyers, corporate types and starfuckers to pony up $3,000 for a ticket to a game in Green Bay.Brando70 wrote:The weather in Dallas really makes me wish they would play this in the snow. Ditch the neutral site and let it be a real home game.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Superbowl has been played in warm weather for almost 50 years now.
Those old NFL championship games in the '50s and early '60s in frigid weather are the stuff of lore yet ancient history by now.
I rather have the game played under optimal conditions, so that the weather doesn't restrict the game plans in any way or result in big plays which wouldn't occur in temperate weather. Like turnovers due to WRs slipping or interceptions or missed field goals due to gusting wind.
The game is suppose to be on a neutral field. That means no advantage to cold weather teams playing against warm weather teams.

I agree. IMO picking NY to host was an asinine decision. I'm hoping for two warm weather teams and a blizzard.wco81 wrote:Superbowl has been played in warm weather for almost 50 years now.

Gotta agree also....
How bout a dome team in that dream game? Lets say Rams vs Chargers

Re: NFL Season 2010
I'm not sure how I feel about this. I recognize your point, but isn't playing in a dome or Miami giving a warm weather team the advantage? Cold weather teams are built for December and January. Fortunately this year we have 2 cold weather teams so it doesn't really matter, but part of me would love to see 'em play with the dome open or in a blizzard somewhere. Snow games are just more fun to watch.wco81 wrote: The game is suppose to be on a neutral field. That means no advantage to cold weather teams playing against warm weather teams.
Re: NFL Season 2010
Um, no, we're mammals and operate the best between like 65 and 75 degrees.
There is no warm weather advantage, though it may not be a coincidence that some of the most explosive athletes in sports seem to come from the southern states.
The cold weather teams in general got an advantage against speedier teams when playing in the elements, because the weather made passing the ball tougher. I recall Elway having a horrible game one year in cold rain because he couldn't grip the ball at all. Even if it wasn't wet, you have the ball contracting and being harder, the footing being less certain and then strong winds making passing and kicking tougher.
Now maybe in the dead of summer, with temperatures over 90 degrees and real high humidity, some players may be more acclimated and have the endurance to play under those conditions. But in January and February, that's not an issue in North America.
The game won't be affected tomorrow since there's a roof but I hear economically, this week may be a washout in Dallas because of the weather. People aren't going out as much as they had planned.

Re: NFL Season 2010
What I meant was, a team that plays its home games in warm weather (like a Miami) might be built differently than a team that plays in cold weather, where speed receivers have traditionally not been as much a priority. I'm not sure if any of that goes into a GM's thought process when building a team these days or not, but it would seem to me that if it does, a warm weather team might have an advantage if the SB is always played in a warm city or one with a dome. I don't have a very strong opinion on the subject though -- a great team should be able to win anywhere and under any conditions, unfair advantage or not.

LMAO.
Re: NFL Season 2010
Both teams deal with a 16 game season and playoffs where weather is almost always a factor to get to the SB. The last thing they should be worried about is extreme weather once they get there. I hated watching the Bears/Colts SB in the rain a few years ago. I thought it sucked. I want to watch two teams go after a SB win in the best conditions possible.

Re: NFL Season 2010
Pretty even match up but I think the Steelers experience ( having won 2 in the last 5 years) along with a better running game will be the difference.
I see Steelers 27- Packers 24.
Again. Any given sunday...Should be and Im hoping for a good to great game without any zebra action.
Im more than ready baby!

LETS GO GREAT GAME!!!!

I think the Steelers will win this one, but I sure as heck wouldn't back that up with money. Should be a fun game.
