I picked it up at Target yesterday for 39.99. Have only played a couple of games, but so far I really like it. The presentation is tremendous. My shooting was completely off in my first attempt (I had 4 points at the half!). I went into practice mode and turned the shot rater on, and that helped a lot. When I played again, I shot 46% for the game and was getting a lot of green ratings on my shots.

From a realism standpoint, it does seem like the game should be a little faster. In terms of gameplay, though, I personally need a slightly slower pace to execute some moves like a pick and roll because of the button combos involved.

Got this for Christmas. Oh man, it's all kinds of awesome. I really really suck at it though. My first 3 games have been 30 point blowouts (pro/sim default settings). I had NBA a few years & played solely on the 2K cam. I tried it today & found it majorly disorienting. I went to the broadcast cam for now.

yea, I sucked at the beginning, being really loose with the ball and turning it over a ton. Last night it started clicking. I had Amare and Gallinari killing people.

The little things make this game so freaking awesome. I'm playing an NBA Today game between the Magic and the Knicks and their commenting on how Gilbert Arenas needed a fresh start from the Wizards and how some of the pieces are starting to fall in place for the Magic.

I don't know how the hell the 2K team did the audio, who cares it's awesome. 8)

Agreed. It's some kind of audio voodoo that freaks me out.

I'd guess that they pull new commentary audio down during the ridiculously long load that happens after the press start screen (loading rosters, profile, etc). It is pretty slick if they are live updating the commentary audio, but I would almost trade it for having the game load a bit faster than the 1-2 minutes it takes after the press start screen ;)

Played my first online games last night against a buddy. It was incredibly smooth. Once the game disconnect right at the tip-off, but I'd take that over a 4th quarter disconnect. Only complaint is how ridiculously convoluted it is to play a simple 'player match' against a friend. Why they make you go thru the whole "blacktop" is beyond me.

It is a really challenging game. I'm playing on All-Star with the Simulation setting, and I've won only a couple games in about 10 tries. The game will really punish you for being loose with the ball.

The level of detail and those little things are so well done. Reminds me very much of The Show in that regard.

What slider settings are you guys using?

Can't find one I can get comfortable with.

I've tried All Star (Simulation) and breaking down a defender 1 on 1 it's almost impossible.

Picks basically don't and I keep missing wide open mid range shots and 3s with good shooters (Pierce, Allen).

I'm playing on Pro with Sim sliders (with all fouls cranked to 65-ish). About 10 games in with these, & digging it.

I may have to drop down to Pro. I'm playing on All-Pro Simulation. Just when I think I've got the hang of it, the CPU goes on a run and I wind up losing by 20+. Going to try a couple games more before I swallow my pride and bump down.

Going through My Player can be infuriating. My guy is finally functional after 30 or so games, but my teammates would routinely hold the ball behind 3 line for 20+ seconds only to launch an ill advised three. I do run the plays they called too, and call for the ball just to get them to do something/anything.

My teammates also shoot way too many 3's. Danny Granger literally launch 10 3's in a row and brick all of them. That's why I select the arrogance option in every press conf lol.

All-Star, simulation settings for me. It was brutal for my first year with the Knicks, but now that I snagged 'Melo in the off-season we're on a tear, opening up the season 12-3. Two scoring threats (and someone in Carmelo who can still get a bucket when the play breaks down) made all the difference.

I have rage quit with this game more than any other sports game in recent memory. The games are settling into a pattern of deja vu -- I play a pretty good first half, come out flat in the third, get cold and can't hit anything. Meanwhile the CPU is nailing turnaround jumpers, making full court passes which my guys can't seem to stop, and before I know it, the game is a blowout. I don't feel like I'm playing so poorly that this should happen every game. Tonight, after a game where I was up 5 at the half over the Wizards before the basket was clamped shut in the third, I wanted to break my disc in half.

I really want to like this game but the frustration factor is getting pretty high.

That's why i've learned to play these games on easy mode. I've had too many of those rage moments in the past. :)

I really like how this game punishes you for mistakes. If you leave a guy open on defense, they just swing the ball back to him and swish!

I really wish they would make a college hoops game again. This is a great game...but I love college more than the NBA.

I can't remember the last time I respected a sports game that I also wanted to place under my car and drive over so that I never play it again. I guess I need to bump down to pro, because at the all-star level I'm 2-12 with the Bulls and can't seem to buy a break. I have to work for every basket while the CPU gets away with cheap fadeaways whenever it feels like it, and likewise the CPU players make superhuman jumps on fastbreak passes while throwing the ball across the court past my guys or putting up alley oops over two defenders standing right there with their thumbs up their butts.

I'm playing decent defense, but I really struggle on the offensive end. I find it hard to get separation from guys, and even when I'm open, they rotate over much more quickly than my players do when they are on defense. It's also frustrating when even a strong breeze seems to cause me to blow what should be easy shots.

Here's hoping a bump down in skill level will help with the frustration factor.

Don't bump it down Brando...simply lower the field goal percentage slightly for the AI. All-Star or higher is where you need to play this game.

How are the shooting percentages for the CPU? Are they between 40-50% regularly or are they higher? If higher, then definitely take em down a bit. You can always raise yours up a bit as well. As long as you're both in that 40-50 range (acceptable standard in the "Real" NBA) then you can start lowering steal success and on the ball defense sliders. I've tweaked them only slightly and I've got the game balanced perfectly for my play style.

I bought this game on black friday and just last week started playing. I'm not a hoops guy at all but this game seems to live up to it's billing. That being said, I don't understand some things.

Why is their an A icon over one of my teammates at times?

I'm having a hard getting any separation on offense and i'm i'd really appreciate some basic tips.

What controller setup are you guys using? The default seems to be difficult in regards to some moves, such as spin.

what is the key to driving the lane or taking on a defender one on one if the matchup is favorable? I see AI guys or other human players "exploding past me" and the best I can do is hit the sprint button and watch my guy slowly go nowhere or get caught up in a mass of people.

Passing? wow.. A very high percentage of passes go to someone other than who I was aiming at. Should I just use icon passing all the time or am I missing something.

Lastly, of the many choices for camera angles, have you guys decided on one that is preferred? I like 2K, but seem to miss a lot of my free throws from that angle.

Thanks guys.
