Vinny which TV did you finally get?
Re: Yet another HDTV question
Rod: Samsung LN46C600 (46' LCD) and the Vizio M470NV (from the previous post)
have to decide between these. Haven't unboxed the Vizio yet
far as Samsung, don't know what to make of the 'panel lottery' controversy. I say this because the first set which i had (LN46C530) was the lowest model, yet had the best picture. The 'superior models' (LN46C630 and LN46C600) have higher list prices/specs, yet do not look as sharp to me. It may have to do with calibration, inconsistent factory settings, etc. On the other hand several people on the AVS forum insist it has to do with certain pannels (SQ vs. AA) etc. This is confusing, because based on this info one particular Samsung model may have one of four (or more) different panels. With each panel having particular strengths/weaknesses.
anyway, in the end it is only a TV. At an investment of $800, jus tryin to pick the right one

I love my three Vizio's at home...have had zero problems with the 37, 47 or 55. All been fantastic...if that helps.

Amazon was recently selling the 60Hz version of my TV for $439
btw: regardless of what advice people give you go with what your eyes tell you looks best. It's a lot like audio, what sounds good to you might not sound good to someone else, the same goes with TV's.

I go 3D Jan 21 2011. I ordered the 55 " NX810 Bravia on Friday. I fell in love with this tv at the sonystyle store. They had a viewing party to watch the lakers vs. Suns in 3d and wow it was pretty damn good. All you kept hearing is I can reach out and touch certain players or look at the fans so close. Arms sticking up out of the crowd blocking your view as if you were there.
Hell this TV is excellent in just regular 2D, it also has built in wifi(N) various widgets and apps. I also purchased 3 pair of glasses and a the transmitter, coming in just under $2500.00

Nope this is for me and first dibs is my son.
Re: Yet another HDTV question
Do the 3Ds still have the pop-up, 3D "flatness" to them? I guess I was expecting something different but the 3D Sony I saw, wasn't so much 3D as it was certain figures were flat even though there was depth to them. If this makes any sense.

Nope, this is the 8 series these sets came out in early october, they are a notch below the 900 series which is the high end for 2010. The 8 and 9 series have dynamic edge light intelligent local dimming, which makes for a great black levels, before the firmware fix in dec. they had some clouding issues also know as the halo effect.JRod wrote:Do the 3Ds still have the pop-up, 3D "flatness" to them? I was in the market for quite sometime for a 3d tv. I checked out the panny viera heard all the so-called best 3d that was before the 8 and 9 series bravias and it wasn't as feature rich. Samsung I was checking out the unc8000 series but it was manufactored in march, april so it was 1st gen. At least with this nx810 I'm getting a 2nd gen 3D Tv at an awesome price.
Getting back to the event, nothing flat about the images fromt he basketball game, it was quite outstanding which is why I chose this set, I was sold on it after viewing the game. I asked the store rep what TV model is that and that's why I was all in the following week, after researching AVSforum and all the positive feed back this model is getting over there.

Re: Yet another HDTV question
I've been 3D gaming for a bout 4 days and I have too say its a great experience.
Hustle Kings 3/5 Interesting on green tables, I get a little ghosting, but on other colored tables nothing, may need to find a better setting. You really have to play this in 3D too understand the depth and the balls really in your face.
Tumble 4/5 This game is a testament to 3D and using a 3D device. Reaching into scenes is surreal and pulling them out and their right in front of you amazing.
GT5 4/5( with right settings)
These are some settings I found, from different boards because default 3D isn't that great.
1. Turn settings to 9 and 0.9 or
2. Set Cockpit view to narrow , parallax to 10 for a 50" , to 8 for a 65 Convergence to 0.87. Get get close enought to the tv to have a correct depth compression. These settings are much more suited for plasma ,Lcd will probably have too much ghosting with that big a paralax. You might want to reduce the contrast on the tv too.
On the bumper view (no cockpit ) you might want to test paralax 10 and convergence 0.70
This makes a world of difference, I used head tracking(arcade) as well and being able to judge corners in 3D is outerworldly.
Auditorium HD 2/5- Not great or even worth the price of admission moving on and the same with NBA 2k11 -1/5(this patch is worthless)
SuperStar HD 5/5, WOW is all I'm going too say, this game use of 3D is great, I mean you will move and duck when big boulders explode and the debris coming at you and when big ships come flying from behind you invading your periphery.
Wipeout Fury HD 3/5- Very colorful and fast and yet subtle use of 3D adds a little not a lot.
MotorStorm Pacific Rift Demo: this is the standard, this will make you change your mind on whether or not 3D adds anything to the game. Dirt, water, splashing and coming at you, driving past weeds and grass hitting you in the face and a sense of being there in the game with the other vehicles.
Will be playing The Fight: Lights Out soon.

Re: Yet another HDTV question
I now know where you get the flatness term. I was watching some games and tv on this tv and its the converting 2d to 3d. Since the source wasn't made in 3d some conversion don't look right.JRod wrote:Do the 3Ds still have the pop-up, 3D "flatness" to them? I've watched converted 2d to 3d its ok, not great, but watching Resident Evil in 3D its on par if not better than Avatar.
Re: Yet another HDTV question
I'll be curious of your impressions when MLB 11 The Show demo comes out. (supposedly a 3d version). There are some 24 to 27 inch monitors starting to hit the market with hdmi 1.4 which should allow gaming with the Ps3. Might be a cheaper alternative for those interested in 3d gaming.backbreaker wrote:I now know where you get the flatness term. Re: Yet another HDTV question
I know there's a lot of great TVs out there but thought I would pass along my experience with a set that is fairly cheap and very good.
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-T ... 566&sr=8-1
I didn't want to spend a whole lot for a set that I wanted to game on in my bedroom so I did some reading on forums and decided to get this 299.96 Panasonic Viera 32". I recently got it and have to say it is a steal for the price. The sound is simply tremendous and the picture looks fantastic. There is a gaming mode on this set as well. I am not seeing any ghosting and it is actually better for gaming than my much more expensive TV in my living room. Yeah, it is only 720p, but that doesn't make much difference since it is 32". Just thought I would throw up this post in case anyone is wanting to buy a low-cost set for gaming. It also looks very nice with blurays as well.

Re: Yet another HDTV question
Hi All,
I know nothing about HDTV's and am looking for a little assistance.
I inherited a Sony Wega 50 inch LCD. It was given to me as there was a problem with the screen turning yellow in areas. These sets were replaced by Sony with a new set at a significant discount. Of course, I could hardly tell there was a problem when I received my set and now i'm starting to see the yellow area expanding. I'm also seeing blue streaks appear in the lower left and right corners.
The set is still usable, but i'm curious if there is anything that can be done?? I recall my father replacing the bulb (or something) at some point before it officially began going bad.
According to the front of the tv, it's model number is KDF-E50A10.

Stop clicking on submit. Sheesh.
And if the color is changing and it's a regular flat screen LCD...you're kind of screwed. The price of tvs now are such that it's only slightly more expensive to just replace the entire tv. You can get 50" plasmas for 500 bucks now.

You might want to jump to the last page, but it sounds like the beginning of the end. Its a rear projection tv,and the bulb really does not play a part in that. I've had the 42" version for 6 yrs now,and use it in the bedroom. I've been fortunate with mine and it still has a great picture. As db mentioned its cheaper to pick up a new plasma or lcd rather than repair it.

Fellas,
I'm in need of a little help. I know almost nothing about TV's and I've got a $500 gift card to amazon. I'm curious if you guys could post a few suggestions that fall in (or close) to that price range.
Thanks!
