I love the steering feel in this game. Plenty of shortcomings, but the driving experience really is great.

The smoothness of the driving is actually killing my desire to play other racing games, F1 being the lone exception. I cannot think of another console racing game that has the control down this well. GT5 is a really tough game for me to ignore in my gaming lineup. My rotation this past week has pretty much been GT5, NHL 2K10, and 3D Dot Game Heroes. I'm getting into B-Spec a lot lately, as it gets so much better as the difficulty rises.

What really helps GT5 in the control dept is the game runs in 60FPS. The other game that has solid control was also on the PS3 (F1 Championship Edition). It also ran in 60FPS.

A 608 MB patch was released and changes a bunch of things:

* “[Seasonal Events] have been added to the upper left side of the [GT Mode] – [GT Life] screen. From here you can participate in official online events from the Polyphony Digital team.
In these events, all participants race under the same regulations, and if you complete the event you will win rewards and experience. In Time Trials and Drift Trials, compete on the leader boards with players around the world.

* An [Online Dealership] has been added to the left center of the [GT Mode]-[GT Life] screen. In here you will find popular and rare used cars. You might just come across that one car you’ve always been looking for, that you haven’t been able to find in the [Used Car Dealer]

* Online Race Rewards and Experience
When you complete a race in the [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge], you will now gain rewards and experience points.
Therefore if you are focused more on playing online, you’ll still be able to gain rewards and levels that you need to progress in [GT Life].

* Driving Distance and Number of Wins in Online Races
The driving distance and the number of wins you achieve when you complete a race in [Open Lobby] or [My Lounge] will now affect your stats in [Profile] and the [Garage].
Here again the results from your online play will c*mulate within [GT Life].

* Improved Rewards
The rewards for winning races in both A-Spec and B-Spec in [GT Mode]-[GT Life] have been increased for a limited time only. (This applies until the end of January 2011)
This is a great chance for those who were previously having difficulties getting ahead in the game, due to a lack of funds for tuning and purchasing required cars.

* Race Information Display
[Race Information Display] is now available in [Start]-[Quick Options]. (You can also see this in [Race Display] in [Options]).

* Save Data Backup
You can now copy and restore your save data. For details, please refer to the in-game [Manual].

* Personal BGM (Menu)
From [Options]-[Hardware]-[Audio], it is now possible to set the [Personal BGM] (Menu)]. (This can also be accessed from the [Music Library] within [GT Mode]).

* Car Name Change
The official name of “Red Bull X1″ has been changed to “Red Bull X2010″.

* Integration with the Website
The main features within [GT Mode]-[Community] can now also be accessed through the “gran-turismo.com” official website.

Got the patch right after it was released. Great to see PD adding so much more content. The new events are a lot of fun, with some of them being quite a nice challenge. It's cool that PD is going to rotate in special events every so often. I also like the addition of the online dealership for the more rare cars. Perhaps the best thing for me is the limited time offer of giving people an increase in credits for those of us trying to purchase the more expensive cars. Really nice effort by PD.

Agreed but it also shows the unfinished state of the game and if Sony hadn't push PD this game may have had a 2011 or 2012 release. Most of the patches have addressed fix but this one is welcomed because it now allows for disabling the HUD.

Due to unscheduled emergency maintenance in the World of Warcraft (Cataclysm is AWESOME...if you love WoW that is.) I finally got the break I needed to go pick up this game. I put in 3-4 hours last night and I have to say its a blast. Just fun.

I never thought Id see the day but it handles pretty well even with a DS controller with the trigger add ons but I think I am going to spring for an HKS at some point as its still not as good as a 360 controller. Again, It is good enough and I am good to race baby! ( I am never buying a wheel :P)

The game runs smooth and is beautiful. Didnt even notice about damage or care about opponent AI as I was just enjoying the ride. Maybe after I play more I can comment on that minor stuff.

Anyway. I am very happy with the purchase and my #2 PS3 is once again a gaming machine. Any game that can pull me away from a brand new WoW expansion is doing something right.

Dont know if I would use the term unfinished as there is so much freaking stuff packed into the game. Maybe a great work in progress 8)

Hey XXXIV I just checked it out so here are the steps for playing your own music. First you need to create a playlist on the PS3. Then select options from the main menu, then select PERSONAL BGM, then it'll take you to the playlist you created. You also NEED to have Personal BGM set to ON for it to work.

One cool thing on firing up GT5 is the Christmas BGM music, nice touch. :)

Have you guys tried out the Citroen GT Road Car (premium)? That thing looks like a cross between a DeLorean, Lamborghini and a Batmobile. :)

The new update is nice. They boosted the prize money a bit, but not nearly enough. For example, the American championship now pays $117,000 per win. It was 98,000 before.

I grinded it out for 5 hours and was able to save 4.8M to buy the Formula Gran Turismo. I am extremely underwhelmed that the damn thing is STANDARD! Surely the vast majority of F1 fans would love to drive that car with the in-car view, but it's impossible with the FGT. Does anyone else have this car, or either of the 2 premium Ferrari F1 cars?

Online for GT5 is basically a big gathering of e-thugs, 14 year olds, cheaters, corner cutters and crashers. It's almost impossible to find a random race where people actually want to race. Even if they do want to race, they'll still be cutting corners and using your car instead of braking. I was in first place online at Laguna, going into the corkscrew. I've never seen a car get nailed as hard as I was from behind haha. I've already gotten my $60 out of it, but the game is wearing thin with me due to the extreme amount of grinding, pointless endurance races and downright impossible (the hardest ones) tests. Some of them are literally impossible with a DS3.

If we got a DSP group together we could at least control that kind of racing.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to gold all these special events they added. Some of them are damn near impossible to gold. The payout is very good even if you don't gold them which is cool.

Windows only. Maybe with Boot Camp. Don't know.

Any tips for upgrading a Prius, what upgrades did you guys do to the car? Driving a 5 lap race at 102 mph is too much fun. :twisted:

The seasonal event? Soft tires. I went with racing, but that's an expensive option. Racing tires gave me 5+ seconds a lap.

The Prius race is outlandishly easy to win with minimal upgrades. Thankfully it's a very short race. Just be glad it's not an endurance race :lol: .

Thanks 308, nailed it first time with the soft racing tires. I had a gaming moment doing the SE with the Ford GT '06 roaring thru Trial Mountain (reverse) in cockpit view. Got that one first time thru as well. As has been mentioned before this game at times has it's moment, for me that was one of them if not the highlight of the game. 8)
