If I live to be 100 I'll never understand how some of you guys can compare SCEA San Diego and their baseball game to Tiburon and its Madden game, but certainly everyone's entitled to have their own opinions.
Thinking that 3D and the Move are (or could even be) the main selling points of the next Show is kind've foolish though, IMO. SCEA has never been about gimmicks being the big thing with their baseball game in the past, and I doubt either of these things will be the main focus of this year's title. Guess we'll know soon enough.

I assume this was directed at me.GTHobbes wrote:Thinking that 3D and the Move are (or could even be) the main selling points of the next Show is kind've foolish though, IMO. I didn't say it was the main selling point, but these are the only two features mentioned so far. I said I hope there are other changes. Give me somethign else to talk about and I'll be happy too, right now this is all there is.
Really was it necessary to call me (or someone else if this wasn't directed at me) foolish? I find it funny you can take out what you dish. You have no problem taking shots at EA, Tiburon and Madden in every thread, relevant or not, but someone disagrees with something you like and you get all pissy.
I'll give you this, I've never seen a troll last so long on a forum. You're a master of your craft, multiple accounts, skirting the line, knowing when to back off. I can't imagine having the time to do what you do, all while (supposedly) being a lawyer.

Thanks. If you think I'm a master of my craft around here, you should see how good I am at Backbreaker. Not sure why you think I've got multiple accounts, though. I can asssure you, there's only one GTHobbes.Danimal wrote: I'll give you this, I've never seen a troll last so long on a forum. Hopefully, Jon Robinson's article drops soon so we can both get back to the topic at hand.

Puff piece for the most part, but a lot of control "improvements" are being implemented this year.

Hmm, 2 vs. 2 online but only with two consoles. So next year, probably some semblance of OTP.
But the problem is, game hasn't ever been reliable even for 1 vs. 1 online games, reportedly.

Looks like the MOVE implementation is limited to HR Derby. Like an introduction to the control scheme. I wish they would have made it available for BP as well. I can't wait to try this out in 3D. They lifted NCAA MVP 2007 fielding and Pitching which is great
Here's a pitching video for "Rock and Fire" for NCAA MVP 2007

double post sorry
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Because as Matt said both games are on cruise control, doesn't matter if one game is close to perfection and the other is bad. As Bill Parcells likes to say.."it is what it is". I probably played the Show 10 for about 10 hours total, I too was bored silly. I felt like I was playing the Show 09, 08, and 07 on the PS3.GTHobbes wrote:If I live to be 100 I'll never understand how some of you guys can compare SCEA San Diego and their baseball game to Tiburon and its Madden game, but certainly everyone's entitled to have their own opinions.

Thanks for posting the link, db.
The gameplay improvements all sound nice, but this is what I loved reading:
"Think that's all that's been added to the game? Think again as the exhaustive list of improvements made to the "MLB: The Show" franchise also includes Move support for the game's home run derby mode, 3-D gameplay (all you need is a 3-D TV and glasses), and a camera editor that enables you to customize any pitching or batting camera to your own personal specifications. There are even the exact broadcast views for every MLB team so you can play the game as your favorite team from the exact same viewpoint you watch them play for real. Amazing."
This, too:
"I've been a fan of "The Show" franchise for many years now, and I have to say, the 2011 edition blew me away. I spent a full day playing the game, then the following week attended Sony's New York preview event where I sat down and played another full 9-inning game. When I got back to my hotel room following the event, I still couldn't get the game (or the awesomeness of Brian Wilson's polygonal beard) out of my mind. It's similar to how I felt the first time I saw "NBA 2K11" -- sometimes you just get that feeling that you're playing something special, and "MLB 11: The Show" is shaping up to be one of the biggest sports game of the new year."
Vinny, looks like they're doing some things with the weather, too:
"Other highlights include Eric Karros joining the booth alongside Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell, completely redesigned stadium-specific jumbotrons, and dynamic rain and cloud coverage that not only takes into account stadium location, but the wet field will now affect the on-field results."

Sorry, DP.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Sounds good so far, but I'm still waiting for a one-pitch mode in manager mode. I'd play it more as a console version management sim then, since I have a lot more fun on the field playing MLB 2K10.
I'm a baseball nut so I'll probably end up getting both, but The Show is certainly more of a wait and see whereas 2K is a no brainer for me.

I didn't realize there were this many views, is the behind the pitcher view that different in Fenway as it is in Wrigley?.
Maybe we're not so far away from having custom announcers. I always though the right approach is to get the radio guys for every team then some stock set of announcers.

Guys, we all knew the game was eventually headed for some pretty drastic control overhaul. While I'm excited, it'll be asking a lot for it to play as fine-tuned as it did with the old scheme in it's first year of implementation. At least you have the option to turn it back.
Overall, impressions sounded really positive.

Off the top of my head, Washington, Texas and Baltimore have different views in their broadcasts. (I think Washington and Texas are a little more over the top, and Baltimore is a little off to the side?)Danimal wrote:I didn't realize there were this many views, is the behind the pitcher view that different in Fenway as it is in Wrigley?
That's pretty cool. Missed that when I read it.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
I think MLB 10 was one of the best sports games I've ever played. There isn't a game out there that can touch its combo of action and realism. I played half a Cubs season (which is a lot for me) and would have played more had I had the time. The commentary certainly needs an overhaul, but I tended to play in Fastplay mode anyway so it didn't bother me that much.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
This is the kind've small details they've been layering in for years, and that baseball fanatics love and appreciate. Casual fans could probably care less, but it makes playing through a full season that much more enjoyable. Can't wait to see what subtle improvements they've made to RTP.AJColossal wrote:Off the top of my head, Washington, Texas and Baltimore have different views in their broadcasts. Jared, could you please set up the forum to automatically deposit a quarter into my Paypal account every time GT mentions Backbreaker in one of his posts? I'd like to retire early, and this looks like a surefire way to accomplish that.

It's cool no doubt, I just didn't realize they were that different. Certainly like variable weather, last time I recall seeing that in a game was FPSBB 98.AJColossal wrote:Off the top of my head, Washington, Texas and Baltimore have different views in their broadcasts. Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Just remembered they've been promising weather effects for years. Wonder if it made the cut this year.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
nor do I. In particular, when size of budget/studio enters the comparison. SCEA-San Diego and Triburon are on a different playing field.GTHobbes wrote:If I live to be 100 I'll never understand how some of you guys can compare SCEA San Diego and their baseball game to Tiburon and its Madden game, but certainly everyone's entitled to have their own opinions.
having had to wait years and years for a console baseball simulation (well, one which have graphics), i don't take MLB/SCEA for granted. Do they have work to do? Definitely. As Rodster mentioned, for one, RTTS have largely been ignored by SCEA and needs attention. Hopefully, SCEA will continue to pay attention to their fanbase (something i give them MUCH credit for) and keep making updates/changes/additions which hardball fans petition for.
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
They also need to fix online play, redesign the menu interface i.e. make it more streamlined where it makes sense.vinny-b wrote:RTTS have largely been ignored by SCEA and needs attention. don't do online, however would love weather/weather effects. edit: yes to menu reddsign. And take Rex Hudler to the curb
Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Just saw the debut trailer -- every year it's the same thing with these guys at SCEA San Diego, they leave my jaw on the floor. If it weren't for not being able to watch the Steelers win the Super Bowl this year, I'd say that I wish I could just go to sleep tonight and wake up having it be March 8, 2011 already.

I can only imagine what this game must be like in 3D. Wow.

Re: MLB 11 The Show a quick tidbit
Yep, not a hint of gameplay, nor a reveal of new features. Yet GT has stained his pants.
Even the most die-hard 2K fan has acknowledged that The Show not only looks better, but really, stands on its own in just how polished its graphics and animations are. Not a single person on this board that has talked about preferring 2K10 would say that 2K has a better game. It's got problems. But the one think it has going for it, that The Show seems to be losing, it is damn fun to play.
But hey, hyperbole theater is a fun place to live, isn't it, GT?
