Football Manager 2011

Post by Rodster »

First Review is up :) Football Manager 2011 PC Review - Page 1 | Eurogamer.net

Conclusion:

"The sum of FM 2011's parts is the most organic but more importantly, most believable man- and team-management experience the series has provided. Don't be expecting perfection, because you won't find it – but even if you own last year's version you should seriously consider investing in this follow-up, a recommendation I certainly don't make every year. And if you've been holding off purchasing a Football Manager game for the last few years, then this is the year to get back in the game."

How much is it on Steam? Amazon has it listed for $40.

I'm hoping to get this through direct download. I don't mind steam but with FM, I don't want steam running at all to slow down performance.

I've never had STEAM issues, not saying others don't but i've played many STEAM games and I never notice a performance hit. FYI you can run the game in offline mode via STEAM. I decided to go the Amazon route this year as it's the same price but at least I get to play from the disc. The downside is I have to wait till the 16th.

Any of you guys tried or are trying FIFA Manager 11 this year?

Squid,

How do you set-up your LLM to get the best players in terms of a supply of players? Is there a guide somewhere to as the best way to set-up a LL to make sure you can find players? I'm thinking about starting a LLM as Regensberg in 2011 but my problem is that I always seem to few players to choose from. I load a large DB but then it's a crap shoot as to what country DBs to load.

I know I shouldn't have listened to you Rod. :)

If you have steam running along side FM it will take a hit. It's as simple as that. FM is a database heavy game. Mistake. I would just direct download the game and forget about Steam.

Yeah like I said I have never had a Steam game take a performance hit even while running. I've even run FM 2009 on a lowly laptop thru Steam and no issues.

On amazon, it says "pc/Mac" for shipping an actual disc, but only pc for download. So for Mac users, download won't work?

Has any ordered the pc download from Amazon? A couple of the comments said they were having problems with it.

^^^ Buy the boxed version it's the same price and there are NO restrictions on where or how many times you install the game. It's the biggest reason I avoid downloadable games unless I buy it from STEAM.

I grabbed the download version through Amazon, and had no problems at all. Had to create an account, but I think thats just to register the code. Otherwise it seems to be running fine.

I ended up ordering the boxed version. Nice surprise on the price. It was a no-brainer @ $20

I tried the demo last night. Knowing pretty much nothing about football, I found it to be pretty interesting. Watching my team play, was pretty cool. Definitely a well made game & I can see how the hours can just fly by. I'll probably buy it.

So, i'm really trying to get into this, but I think being a 'football' outsider can make the game very frustrating. Was trying to setup my team for it's next match & i kept getting a "you must have 11 outfielders! you only have 10". I couldn't figure out how to fix this issue. Looking at the roster, none of my guys are listed as "outfielders" specifically. I also couldn't figure out how to even add more players. Anyway, after getting that message over & over for 20mins, I finally just shut it down & said 'screw it'.

Lol, isn't that right?? I was writing it from memory. I thought that's what it was barking at me. Whatever it was, it's wasn't easily visible to figure out what to do to fix it. :?:

Go to the upper right of the team select screen and pull down 'assistant advice' or whatever it's called and choose 'pick team.'. This will let your assistant manager select the team for that match.

Outfield players are field players. You have 11 guys on a soccer team, 10 field players and one goalie. Eventually you will figure out how to drag and drop players from your roster to starting spots, or the bench  it's not that hard. The are many ways to do it: drag and drop to the list, select and place on the formation to the right, use the mini pull dowmenu, etc.

Obviously some familiarity with the real life game would help a lot, but by the same token many have learned a ton about the real life game by playing fm. Stick with it and let your ass man take care of anything you don't feel you really have a grasp on. You can always adjust how much you micro-manage later, not to mention you can always start a new game any time down the road once you get a handle on things.
