So who's going to watch Friends tonight?

I agree Pk. I was less than thrilled with the last "Seinfeld" episode. I remember just feeling "Huh....they're kidding right? This is it?" I think too often they try to incorporate all the individual comedy from every character to ensure each one gets their proper inclusion, that it does end up feeling contrived. Then you're left with a disoriented episode, much like last night's.

In any case, I have a better feeling "Frasier" will ride off into the sunset with a more heartfelt and funny show. At least they attempt to be somewhat creative with their humor and sound half way intelligent.

Honestly, don't feel bad that you missed the last 8-10 minutes. I remember looking at the clock saying "When is this going to end..enough is enough!"

It didn't help that ER decided to show one of their more depressing shows of the season. Then again, when does that show ever end happily.....

When you get done watching the first season on BBCA (I dunno when they're gonna start running second season episodes) download the subsequent seasons off of www.suprnova.org (bit-torrent site) or buy the DVDs if you get to be a huge fan (they're well worth it ).

The finale was too slapsticky. But I didn't think it sucked. I actually thought the answering machine gag at the end was funny. It was better than the Seinfeld finale, which is the most anti-climactic televsion ending I think I've ever seen (especially given the hype for it).

Best ending ever in my opinion was Newhart. Brilliant and may never be topped.

Larry Sanders was also hilarious. When Hank comes in drunk and starts cussing out Larry and Artie, then comes back weeping and hugs them...it was so perfect for that show.

Nevertheless, long live Canadian trailer parks and dopeheads!

I disliked Seinfeld's final episode until I watch it again and understood what the writers were trying to show. How ridiculous Seinfeld (& posse)'s outlook and behavior had been for all those years.... In retrospect, it is actually a fitting and funny ending that's original and not a cop out like Friends is (sentimental Hollywood type ending).

I actually really like Friends and don't feel it's overrated at all. The last episode was 10 times better than Seinfelds and I will genuinly miss the show.

Friends might be a staple in mainstream American comedy but that doesn't mean it sucks.

I'm with you, I actually enjoyed Friends, especially in the early days. Some of those older episodes are absolute classics, such as when Phoebe and the girls try to "seduce" Chandler. Oh man that's one of the funniest single sitcoms I've ever seen.

Anyone who appreciates excellent comic timing and delivery must recognize the genius that is Lisa Kudrow. She is an amazing comic actress and can make a lame punchline hilarious, simply in her delivery of the line.

Lisa Kudrow does have comedic chops. But the writing pales compare to Seinfeld or even to Frasier.

They got a favorable time slot and great demographics. To their credit, they held the ratings they got from either Seinfeld or Mad About You lead-in.

But people remember all the best lines or Seinfeldisms from Seinfeld. Can't say the same about Friends.

My serious question about "Friends:" Would the show have been nearly as popular if the six stars were as ordinary looking as Jerry Seinfeld, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld?"

I doubt it. As a story I read last week said, the producers lucked out in that they found six very good-looking people who could actually act and had chemistry together. That was more of a secret of the show's success -- inexplicable success, to me -- than its writing.

I agree with you for the most part, except Lisa Kudrow is damn ugly (although she is funny). And the 3 guys are pretty ordinary too, but at least they are not repulsive, I suppose.
