Yesm I hope they respond well tonight against the Wings. I may have to watch on my usual streaming sources, since i refuse to pay Rogers $300+ for Centre Ice!

Renney benched Hall and Eberle during the third period of the bloodbath two nights ago at Carolina. It will be interesting to see how the kids respond.

Flyers whoop Carolina 8-1. The "Bob" stays hot! 35 saves.

Flyers are fun to watch. I hate to see players losing their job to an injury, but how can you not keep riding Bob at this point? With that said, I can't wait to see Leighton back to take some of the workload off of the rook. It'll help us in the long run.
JVR scratched again, and impressive Eric Wellwood sent to play with the Phantoms. Those two would be second or third line players on most teams.

With the exception of the St Louis game, there's been a few wipeout scores tonight. 'Nucks took care of the hosts in OTT as all four lines were rolling after being shut down by Price a couple of days ago. R. Kesler was a post shy of having a hat trick, and they travel to Leaf land now, as CBC will be broadcasting nationally the main HNIC game this weekend.

Went to Kings/Dallas last night. Man,the fists were flying. Seems like a lot of bad blood between those two.

It felt like the 90s/legion of doom days watching the Flyers pound the hurricanes. Goals just felt inevitable, or maybe it's because we were talking about Lindros...10spro wrote:With the exception of the St Louis game, there's been a few wipeout scores tonight. Eleven million extension contract for J. Carter with a cap hitting at 5.2 next year. Good signing for the Flyers.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
I'm sure you meant 11 years, and I agree it's a good deal. Now, Homer needs to work on getting Leino inked. I'm not sure how I feel about these long contracts, but I don't mind seeing 11 or 12 years to a 24 year old over giving 15 to a 27 year old like Kovalchuk.10spro wrote:Eleven million extension contract for J. Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Probably a good deal for the Flyers, but I wonder how motivated Carter will be to improve the weak areas of him game (passing, defensive effort, missing the net all the time) now he has the safety of this contract.
I really hope they get Leino signed soon. That guy is critical to the Flyers hope of success in the playoffs in the coming years.

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Canucks played a desperate Leaf team that's struggling to score but played a rather inspired game on HNIC that was televised nationally and perhaps deserved better luck. Not the best game by VAN as they turned over the puck way too much and stole a win because of the depth they have this year. I'll take it, especially on this long road trip. Louie was the difference.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Have to see how much longer the flyers can keep up their current run. 8-0-1 in their last 9, with the last 2 wins by a combined 13-3.
Best team in the NHL right now? Their 1-6 D lineup is the best in the league, they're getting scoring from 3 lines, their special teams are doing great, and Bobrovsky looks outstanding (10-2-1 with 932 sv pct).

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Quite the donnybrook in the Oil-Rangers' game yesterday, precipitated by a possible sucker punch by Avery. Shocker there:
The Oil proved they can fight. Too bad they can't score or prevent their opponents from scoring.
I have no problem with hockey fights, but these bench-clearers are a waste of time and prove nothing but the stupidity of the some corners of the "culture of the game." I watch two to three boxing matches a week, 52 weeks per year. I don't need to see pointless bench-clearers like this for my pugilism fix.
Two guys going at it for a minute -- fine. A bench-clearer precipitated by angry words like this -- pointless.

First coaching casualty goes to he NYI.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Jason York had an interesting take on the sports radio here in Ottawa on the Avery incident. He feels it should be covered under the blindside hit to the head rule, as Avery suckered Smid with the punch.
I'm not sure if that's what the NHL had in mind with the rule, but could be an interesting argument.
On a more serious and way more important note, the Sens are interupting their road trip on Wednesday to be in town for a memorial service for Luke Richardson's daughter who apparently killed herself over the weekend at the age of 14...... tragic.
The sens play in Carolina that night, but got special permission from the NHL to travel on a game day. Richardson is an assistant with the team, and his family is heavily involved in minor hockey here. Such a shame.
Nothing has been released as to why she did it or anything, but there shouldn't need to be a reason why..... sad sad sad.

PK, what are you thoughts on Hemsky as a player? Figuring he's 27, has only one more year after this left on his contract, and the Oilers are in full rebuild mode, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to be on the block come the trade deadline. Has he ever played LW and do you think he would work on the Kings top line with Kopitar and Brown?

King:
Hemmer is a riddle wrapped in an enigma. He has immense skill, but he's never really put it all together for a breakout season.
People think Hemmer dangles too much trying to create shot lanes, but then he gets ripped by some for passing too much. People think Hemmer is too soft or too passive, but no one on the Oilers gets hit and hacked more on the team yet willingly still goes into dark places to get the puck than Hemmer.
I've followed this cat since he made his NHL debut, and I still can't figure him out. The only non-enigmatic fact about this guy's career is that he's never played a season with elite NHL linemates.
Maybe playing with Brown and Kopitar could bring out the 100-point season that I know resides somewhere in Hemsky. Or maybe Hemsky is just a more gifted and hard-working version of Robbie Schremp, a guy with tons of individual skills and tricks that look great in skills contests but don't translate to NHL superstardom.
I would be open to trading Hemsky, depending on the return. His skill dazzles scouts and GM's, so I bet the return could be decent. It's not like the Oil is going anywhere with Hemsky.

Gangrel:
My heart goes to the Richardson family. A colleague of mine lost his son last year at age 13 of an apparent suicide too. Who knows what the hell goes in a teens' mind these days but good for the Sens to take a moment to recognize this sad occasion.

Another night, another whooping by the flyers.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Too many injuries for the Blues...

Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
Habs should be a good test for the Flyers tomorrow night. They're playing well, and Price has looked good.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
But they lost Markov over the weekend. That's a big loss for the Canadiens, although the rest of the team have been playing well, particularly Price as you stated.Sully wrote:Habs should be a good test for the Flyers tomorrow night. They're playing well, and Price has looked good.
Re: NHL 2010/2011 Season
'Nucks waste a good effort by the Twins as the lost a very entertaining game against BUF in OT. D. Hamhuis tried to clear a rolling puck with a minute left and it went straight to Myers who roofed daddy the puck past Schneider.
The long road trip ends against the Pens on Wednesday.
