After the success, both commercially and from a design perspective, of RDR, I'm much more optimistic and enthusiastic about this.

Re: LA Noir (by Rockstar Games) wow...
Well here it is. Seems kind of cool, but there is some question of my mind about how the gameplay will shake out. Wild action like RDR and GTA wouldn't be appropriate.

Re: LA Noir (by Rockstar Games) wow...
That's the million-dollar question--how does this actually play? The trailer gives no hints.Rodster wrote:Is this an open world type game like RDR and GTA IV?
Re: LA Noir (by Rockstar Games) wow...
Remember Shenmue for the DC. I wonder if it will be like that.
By the way, the main character seems to one of the guys from Mad Men...I think Cosgrove. That's cool!

yup. For anyone not impressed, fine print at end of trailer "This trailer only contains actual gameplay footage..."; may change their mind

OK I just read the piece on Gamespot and this game is an Open World game.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6283919.ht ... es;title;5
"Today, Rockstar released a new trailer for the game (below), which contained a nugget of information at its end. Namely, the open-world game would launch in spring 2011, generally accepted as being the second quarter of the year.
Other than the date, the new trailer shed little light on the film noir-inspired game, which is the debut effort from Australia-based Team Bondi. The snippet did give a taste of the game's main storyline, which follows a detective entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in 1940's Los Angeles. Players jump into the seedy underworld of the metropolis and are tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an "open-ended challenge."

kewl. In the Game Informer interview several months ago, Team Bondi pretty much stated it would be 'Open World'. Personally, am perceiving it will be a cross between Mafia and Heavy Rain. Essentially employing the best elements of both. For instance, maintaining the detective elements, facial animations, of Heavy Rain. Yet, forgoing it's button gymnastics and player's ability to drive a vehicle (which was a big turnoff IMO). don't know why we lose the edit function on the site after posting sometime?...

You can blame me for that one Vinny.vinny-b wrote:don't know why we lose the edit function on the site after posting sometime?...
I asked Jared in the forums thread if he could add the "this message has been edited on.. after 10 minutes" and he interpreted that by removing the Edit button instead.

"Conversations with persons of interest have you navigating the murky waters of potential lies and half-truths, so it's critical that you're able to tell the difference between a genuine smile and a coy smirk when someone is giving his or her side of the story. When you combine that with a web of clues and evidence that you can refer back to in your handy notebook, you've got an idea of how the almost adventure game-like detective work functions."
"After examining the wrecked vehicle, Phelps took the opportunity to chat with the well-known actress, June, who was sitting in the back of an ambulance. L.A. Noire uses a conversation mechanic that lets you decide how to respond to people's statements with multiple degrees of acceptance and empathy. You have three options for each response: believe/coax, doubt/force, and disbelieve/accuse. Knowing which of these responses to pursue is where the game's facial animations really play a critical role. After asking June whether any foul play occurred before the accident, Phelps was told that she simply lost control of the wheel--an unspectacular, everyday car accident. But the response carried an undeniable level of smugness, as did the grin on June's face afterward. This led the Rockstar reps guiding the demo to conclude that she was covering up something potentially sinister, so they accused her of lying. Any time Phelps makes such a bold claim, he has to provide relevant evidence, so in this case, Phelps brought up the torn underpants inside the car to suggest that June was hiding some sort of potentially devious conduct that led to the accident. But that's the point at which she clammed up and demanded to see her lawyer."

There's no way when I play this game, the main character will be anybody else but Kenny Cosgrove.
