Although there are some gray areas lingering hits to the head, the league has taken positive steps towards suspending players hitting opponents on the blindside. I thought that Thornton getting 2 games is more than fair for his transgression. Scottie Stevens was a master at catching people with the head down but like Naples mentioned, his hits were always straight north-south at the opponent shoulder to body/head.

Some players just need to be reminded about the new rules and the league a better job at educating managers and referees. Hitting after all is still a very important aspect of the game.

Are you referring to his anger towards Carcillo's head shot on Fedotenko? The way he lept off his skates, the way he raised his elbow towards the Russian? I am not a fan of Torts myself, but he surely had a damn valuable argument there.
I wasn't referring to the Carcillo hit (just not a Tort fan :) ) but I have no problem with the hit. As some mentioned above it was not malicious (IMO). Fedotenko was on his way down which made the hit look worse than it was. Of course Carcillo's rep won't help him if the league reviews it...which they haven't.

Let's not rewrite history and pretend Stevens was above using his elbows and catching players from the side, cause he wasn't. He lead with his elbow on the Langkow and Lindros hits, and the Kariya hit is from the side as well as being late. The puck that went in his ear hole and ended his career came from god's own stick as far as I'm concerned.

Just watching that top-10, his hit on Kariya was appalling. Terribly late, blind side, total intent to injure. Don't know how that wasn't penalized.

No complaints about the Langkow or Lindros hits. Arm was down, elbow tucked. Forearm only comes up after the shoulder has driven through. Legal hits.

Thornton is a p***y.. I hope next time with play San Jose, Janssen is healthy and beats the s*** out of Thornton.

Dream on. Thornton never would drop the mitts against Janssen. Jumbo Joe is softer than the Stay-Puf Marshmallow Man.

Flyers/Isles tonight. Every night I find myself looking forward to watching Claude Giroux play. He is rapidly turning into one of the best players in the league. His assist to Richards the other night against the Rangers was sick.

Wings and Canucks are supposed to finish 1 and 2 in the Western conference and these two teams did not disappoint tonight at the Rogers arena as VAN outlasted DET 6-4. The game had it all, SH goals, PP goals, hitting, fighting and a constant change of momentum. Trailing in the third period 4-3, Nucks played their best 3rd period yet pouring it on Jimmy Howard while Luongo struggled a bit.

Glad HNIC had Jimmy Hughson calling the game, who along C. Simpson did a fine job commenting on this exciting game.

Manny Malhotra is turning out to be the best off-season acquisition for VAN who's great in the face-off circle and penalty killer. Tonight he did it all and even scored 2 goals.

Lindros was a human wrecking ball. He was perhaps the meanest, roughest SOB in the league before the concussions. He used to fight all the time. Lindros threw more hits in a single game than Thornton has in his entire career. Truth is, we may never see a player like Lindros again in terms of the size, skill and aggression (when he came into the league, he was bigger than all but the biggest defensemen in the league).

Absolutely. BEFORE the concussions Lindros was a totally different player. I miss THAT guy.

You're WAY off base with that comment. Lindros was a two-way BEAST before his injuries piled up.

Lindros was the Bo Jackson of the NHL in the 90s. The league never had seen a player with his combination of size, speed, skill and nasty attitude.

Much like Wendel Clark with the Leafs, pure physical recklessness shortened Eric the Great's career. There was no selectivity with his hitting: He would drill hit anything with a pulse, often and hard.

Agree on Lindros...he was the dominant player of his era. He's a HOF'er in my eyes....one of the best i've ever seen play.

By the way, here is Oshie's hit on David Krejci last night....this was a great hit. Also at the end of the video they show Oshie's hit on the 6"9 Zdeno Chara as well.

Lindros was the reason I became a Flyers fan back in 93 when I first started watching hockey on TV.

Even before the concussions he was prone to injury, partly to his extremely physical style of play.

I didn't follow Lindros during his "glory" years, but what I did see of him was someone who would hit you from the blind side and then skate to the bench when someone would call him on it.

He didn't do much for me... ymmv

Saw this on Bill Harris blog--

To steal Bill's quote. f***in genius. Though they could have made it better, by doing it the where everybody gets on the ice right before the game and they get picked.

Better, would be to scratch the whole event as it is a joke. But it does add a new twist to an otherwise dull AS event, personally I would rather watch another 'Winter Classic game'.

I could care less about the Canucks, especially when they are busy destorying the Oil, but I will give them credit today.

They cancelled their practice today in Ottawa so the team could attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony here in Ottawa. Class.

Oh no, the Canes destroyed your Oils. Remembering our heroes is the least thing anyone can do.
