It's really bizarre.
AJ: the new park is empty (front rows) for every game. Playoff or otherwise. If told you the price for 1 regular season game in the lower/field level, you point blank wouldn't believe me. It a trip how YES and other media outlets attempt to cover it up and state the park is full.
Yeah I heard while watching a Yankees game on TV that the price for a box seat is about 1K per game?
I understand the new Yankees Stadium cost ownership somewhere close to a billion dollars maybe more but that's insane what management wants fans to pay for Yankee seats especially in this economy. And it's not like Football where the home team gets at least 8 games a year. In Baseball we're taking 80 games per year at least to recoup your investment as an owner.
have to wonder why the Cubs didn't wait 2-3 extra days for the Yankees season to end, to talk to Girardi. If the Cubs were to have offered him a contract in-line with what NYY was willing to offer, i have a feeling Girardi would have went to Chicago. For several factors.
that said, thankful to have him back. Love the man

insane. When you add it all up, will take the old stadium. The upper deck overhang over the field, less billboards, louder, consistently at max capacity, and no moat between the commons and the Kings.
to be honest, won't really take too much for me to walk away. A 4 year over-market contract to Jeter, and Girardi leaving for Chicago likely would have done it. Winning does have a 'hollow' sentiment when you purchase the top free-agents each year. On the postive side, i love Girardi/Cashman and maintain interest in the farm system. Following players from: amateur draft/international FA, to prospect, to MLB player, is rewarding to follow.
wouldn't mind if the Royals finally decide to turn the corner one day. My 'other' team : )

Vin, from Chicago I was hearing that Girardi was never seriously considering the Cubs job. Once the Cubs had that confirmed, they went ahead and hired Quade.
Also, regarding the Yankees, I've heard about the seats behind home plate. I know that was a factor, along with the economy and everything, but it just seemed different, especially with fans leaving en masse towards the end of games. Just didn't seem like the picture I had of Yankees fans.
It was almost like Yankees fans knew they were not going to win it this year, so they didn't want to get too involved.

thank you for the word, AJ
far as the other, you prolly right. CC really (didn't) set the tone. Maybe it were his knee (he received surgery today) but his performance was dissapointing. Starting pitching (with exception of Pettitte) didn't show up. Compounded by Arod and Texeria (aka Mr. July) who did their normal October invisible man acts.

I'm not sure I'd say that. Top to bottom I'd take the Rangers roster any day. That doesn't mean they weren't outplayed tho. There's a reason all those mid-season pickups were available for the Giants...they just are mediocre players that all got hot and played really well for a three week stretch. There's a difference.

Of all the Giants teams throughout the years, this was one of the least likely to win it all. But the whole staff clicked in September and they kept it up all the way through the post-season.
Honestly I thought the starters had peaked, especially Lincecum who's lost 5-10 miles velocity on his fastball. The organization may have wasted some of the greatest pitching seasons in club history the last couple of years because they were unwilling to assemble a decent-hitting roster. But then Lincecum learned to use the slider and changeup more and collectively, it was kind of like what Herscheiser did that one year, just winning it on pitching alone.

Let's put this way. The Giants were a very good team that played better than another very good team over the course of five games. Stretch it for another week and who knows what may have happened. And that started right after the regular season ended when they played ATL.
Brochi would be the first guy to tell you that his misfits and castoffs just shone at the right time of the season. Key contributions by some veterans like Uribe and Renteria, solidpitching and B. Wilson shut the door whenever he had to.
Rangers bats that were so awesome against the Rays and Yankees went inexplicably cold in the WS. On paper, Rangers showed more depth but let's don't forget that during the regular season SFO had more wins too. But WS are not won on paper and numbers alone, Giants were the better team.

Co-signed. Congrats to the Giants but they weren't the best team. My opinion

Unfortunately that's the way the baseball playoffs work more than any other sport. That's the reason the Braves have one championship when they should have had 3 in the 90s. Awww well...living in the past again. Woops.

Nothing good about either of those.

Yeah, those utility guys sure do bring the banners.
If that were the case, they would have won this year as they have the left hand hitting version of Mather already...Eric Hinske, and he's been to the world series in three of the last four years (on four different teams).
The Braves get Uggla from the Marlins for Mike Dunn (lefty reliever) and Omar Infante. Eeeeshh...hopefully they don't extend Uggla, but I LOVE the trade for 2011. Needed a righty power bat...now they have one.

Uggla reportedly turned down a 4yr offer from the Marlins. I doubt the Braves give Infante and Dunn without a long term deal in the works. The Fish continue to unload what few fan favorites they have left. It would be nice to recognize a few players when they move into thier new digs in 2012.

They don't have anything in the works...they wanted to improve for 2011 according to their beat writers. Uggla isn't even in the country and hasn't been for the last two weeks so they haven't even spoken with him yet. I'm fine with it either way...I still want to see another bat, preferably a centerfielder (Rasmus, Kemp, Upton)...but those guys, if available, would actually cost Atlanta some top level prospects, unlike this one.
Wish the Cards had traded for Uggla. NIce pick up by the Braves. We need major infield help IMO.
Looks like the Cards are going to try and sign Pujols before spring training and as early as Christmas. I still question whether this is the right move. I would think he's on the back end of his career and they'd be paying him more for what he's done than what he'll do four or five years from now.

But paying Pujols for 6 years, when you will likely get 4 really damn good MVP type years is worth that investment, even if the last two are suspect. You simply cannot let him leave. It's not like he's going to be a .250 hitter ever...he'll just lose a little of his power. Pretty much what's happened to Chipper recently (except for his really bad year two years ago, right after he wins the batting title). The only risk with the superstars is just health related really. The Cards will be fine. Pay the man.
