Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
all of sudden my iphone 4 battery has gone to crap. around friday afternoon, it suddenly started draining like crazy. just having the phone with no real apps running, the battery can drop 20% in an hour. no idea what went wrong. gonna try resetting (from "scratch") the phone tomorrow to see if that helps.

Just seeing if anyone wants to post their Game Center usernames. Not sure if this deserves it's own thread like the 360 and PSN gamer tags but seems like a few people on here have iPhones.

Which games support Game Center?
I still have a 3G so I can't get GC.
Might have to upgrade if Words with Friends get GC.

Popular games like Angry Birds and Doodle Jump are not supported, don't know if they'll ever be.wco81 wrote:Which games support Game Center?

Words with Friends is a GC tittle.
BTW, any of you guys with the iPhone 4 get one of the free cases Apple is offering? What model did you get? I ordered the Speck Pixelskin HD but the confirmation email says it ships in Oct 22. It's free so wgas, but still...
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Wasn't aware of that. I did get a free bumper though which is supposed to help the drop in calls, something I haven't experienced in my area. I am using case-mate for now, very thin case and sharp looking.jLp vAkEr0 wrote: BTW, any of you guys with the iPhone 4 get one of the free cases Apple is offering? What model did you get? Well surprise, surprise.
Just got a shipping confirmation from Apple for my free case.
Again, it's free, and I already bought one, but again, that Oct 22 shipping date was a joke. Oh and the one I ordered looks way better than the generic POS case I'm using now.
BTW,
I'm not sure if this was posted, but here's a quick easy guide on how to have free custom ringtones on your Iphone.

Does anyone know how you get your iphone to output to your TV? DO I need to get a special cord?
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
There may be an accessory which connects to the dock connector and has video cables.
But the other option is that with iOS 4.2 due in November, iPhone 4 and 3GS can use AirPlay to stream to AppleTV.
Google it.

At CES, there were a lot of Android phones shown for AT&T, so that probably kind of tips you off.
Open question whether it supports LTE or even 3G for people interested in using overseas.
Tricky timing, as this is about the time sales of iPhone start to decline as a new model is due in July.
So people buy the Verizon iPhone and then may not be happy to see new model in July for either AT&T or both AT&T and VZ.
Apple is going to have to sync up the GSM and CDMA models as soon as possible so they have parity.

Yeah, I can imagine the giddy early adaptors getting annoyed when an iPhone 5 (or whatever) comes out in July. I think most agree this will just be a CDMA version of 4.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Verizon iPhone...yawn. The four LTE 4G Android devices they announced at CES that will release in the next couple months are so far beyond anything Apple can do it's not even funny. I'm sure it'll sell tho...can't deny that.
The iPhone on Verizon is CDMA 3G and that's all. No overseas roaming, nothing. Just plain old 3G. Had it been a 4G LTE phone from the jump, you can bet a ton of Android people will switch to Apple...but as it is, I don't see it. Significantly better/faster phones coming out on Android shortly. Now, if they drop a bomb and make it 4G compatible...then they will have a HUGE advantage and sell the sh*t out of em.
I'm also willing to bet At&t/Apple do away with an iPhone 5 this summer and wait until winter time and launch a LTE 4G version on both Verizon and At&t. That's my prediction anyway...no sense in dropping the 5 on At&t's crappy 3.5G network and then launching LTE shortly thereafter. But then again, the masses love the iPhone so they will probably just keep releasing them because people buy them, even if there isn't any reason for them to do so. Gotta admit tho...the front facing camera is cool...so at least they came out with something original in the last 3 years (tho it may be argued that the EVO 4G came up with it first, lol). There is a reason all of the new Android phones will have front facing cameras.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Here's why none of this matters. How long before mid-major metro and large towns get LTE? Even with LTE is most metro areas, there's a lot of market setting out there that will not have LTE for more than a year if not longer. Apple seems to be able to time things when they hit critical mass. Whether it's luck, research or marketing or what. iPhone didn't lose any business because it didn't have a worse camera than the Droid. The OS is only a draw for the niche market. Multi-tasking was little more than an inconvenience for a few months. Apple's established themselves as market leader and the only thing holding them back was ATT. HAD the exclusive deal ended sooner, the google phone might not have got off the ground. If anything ATT's exclusive deal created an environment where competitors could thrive.dbdynsty25 wrote:Verizon iPhone...yawn. Anyway, I there's not enough demand right now for LTE. Nor is the coverage that broad to reach critical mass to hurt the iPhone. I think the big announcements for the year are an iPad 2, Verizon and maybe other companies getting an the iPhone, probably a big update to the OS and the iPhone4.5, like the iPhone 3gs, where's is a slight upgrade but not a "new" design.

LTE pricing is also an issue. If it's anything like the data plan VZ announced, it's not going to be useful, starting at $50 for 5 GB and then additional charges after that.
You also have to watch out for the battery performance of the first LTE chipsets. The first 3G chips were not as power-efficient as they eventually came to be.
VZ is going to have to keep up its CDMA network for several years, even after they complete their LTE coverage, because there will still be millions of customers who will not upgrade to the latest, priciest phones right away.
A bigger selling point will be whether you can roam internationally than whether it can use LTE, at least this year. Oh and there's a later revision of CDMA which allows using data and voice simultaneously, which is probably something people would want.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Jrod are you really saying Android is a niche market? You lost me there since they are the #1 selling OS now...
My simple point is that a Verizon iPhone launch is not going to be as big and crazy as it was on At&t simply because of Android. People on Verizon that didn't switch area already on Android phones (of my closest 20 friends, I know one person with an iPhone simply because At&t sucks in Southern California and he HAS to for work, lol). No one is going to switch back to an iPhone when it comes out because they like their Android phones. That's not a knock against the iPhone, it's a great device, however, it's been surpassed in my mind.
Will that stop anyone from getting on in two years, or whenever their contract is up? Maybe, maybe not. I just don't see how this is going to be some game changer. If anything, it'll just gouge the hell out of At&t's marketshare since people know they can get the same phone on a better network.
And LTE will be priced the same as 3G when the smartphones come out. Guaranteed. Of course they are priced at 50 bucks for 5gb of data...that's the same prices as 3G when you compare it to the USB Modems...that's how much they charge because you're accessing with a laptop which uses more data. They can't overprice LTE because Sprint has already set the 4G pricing bar with Wimax...Verizon will compete.
LTE will allow you to globally roam. This is all stuff we already know.
I'll be happy with the CDMA iPhone comes out...it did it's job and kept At&t alive from a business standpoint and created competition for Android. Now Android is going to have to up the ante on their phones to keep people from switching to iPhones...see Droid Bionic/Atrix for latest iPhone 4 crushing Android superphone.

Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
I wouldn't want to quantify how much hysteria there is going to be with a Verizon iPhone, as I'm sure most of the huge Apple people already have their AT&T iPhone, but I wouldn't underestimate the draw of the device.
Yes, many Android phones are arguably better, but people want the iPhone because it's called an iPhone. Period. The brand cannot be underestimated. People who have been wanting an iPhone but didn't want AT&T's crap network will jump.
As for the 4G, how does Verizon's current 4G availability compare with AT&T's 3G availability when the iPhone 3G was released? I assume it's not significantly worse, if not better.
The last thing to consider is that most people are on 2 year phone upgrade cycles. A promise that 4G will be available in your area 'sometime in the next year' might get people buying 4G phones.
My guess is that the initial Verizon iPhone will be 3G, and will sell a lot of units at first. Then when you see a 4G Verizon iPhone later this year or next, it will sell like crazy.

That's what I was saying two posts back. If the iPhone hits 4g on Verizon it will kill. That probably wont happen until the iPhone 5 tho. And yes you're right it'll still sell cuz its an iPhone. No denying that at all.
Re: The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread
Just to satisfy my own curiosity...
Verizon LTE in now (yellow circles for "markets"):

And AT&T 3G in 2008 at iPhone 3G launch (dark blue):

Pretty similar.

The Droid OS isn't a niche market but the amount of people that are choosing the Droid because of the OS is a very small number. There are other reasons why people are going with the Droid.

Yeah that's probably true. The enthusiasts are a small number but you could say that about ANYTHING really. There are far more enthusiasts for Android than any other smartphone manufacturer, which appears to be a huge advantage tho. Motorola going the Apple way and locking boot loaders was a pretty big slap in the face to the community, but like everything else, that was cracked within a week or two.JRod wrote:The Droid OS isn't a niche market but the amount of people that are choosing the Droid because of the OS is a very small number.
