NFL Season 2010

This is officially the 2000 season redux. There isn't a complete team in the league and the mediocrity is stultifying. So many bad games the last couple weeks. Close games should not be mistaken for good ones.

I would relish a close game.

After all these years, beating the Browns and knocking out some of their guys in the process is just as much fun as it's always been. And the Ravens and Cowboys both lost yesterday, too, so all is right with the world this morning.

Are you serious? You're THAT excited about beating up on the hapless Browns? In case you haven't noticed, EVERYONE is beating up on the Browns these days (except of course, last December when a loss to the Browns cost the Steelers a playoff spot). And most teams aren't even worried about Josh Cribbs, let alone feel like they have to knock him out of the game to beat us. But you're right about yesterday, Bravo Steelers, well done, I'm impressed.

Actually, I was a little worried about the Browns game -- I had watched them play the Bungles a couple of weeks ago and came away impressed with Hillis and Wallace. I also liked what I saw out of McCoy yesterday as well. Regardless, it's almost always fun beating up on the brownies.

Probably was texting while driving, same thing that killed celebrity plastic surgeon Frank Ryan this summer in the hills of Malibu.

There's not much you can do when no one on a team knows how to f***in block. I wish the Bears would run more, but when it's a triumph for them to average more than 3.0 per carry in a game, Martz doesn't have many options left but to pass. Instead of spending millions on a backup RB and TE, would have been nice if Jerry Angelo had paid someone who knows how to play offensive tackle.

I am stunned that Angelo doesn't go to the free agent market and just make some wholesale changes. There have to be two guys at home or in the UFL or somewhere who can understand the fundamentals of changing assignments on the fly etc.

There's not much you can do when no one on a team knows how to f***in block. The problem with that is that he had an offensive line and a rb in Stl but still passed far more than ran. Even with big leads. Qb survival was, is and apparently always will be far down his list.

However I do agree that most of the Bears problems are from lack of offensive line. If you cant block, you cant pass or run. Its pretty simple.

I do have a couple of notes for Martz:
1)The TE will not effectively block the DE. Its not going to happen.
2)Cutler will hold the ball a little longer than most because he is always looking to make plays. Its who he is.
So adapt genius.

This is just armchair psychology on my part, but he seems to be one of those GM's who refuses to admit he's made a mistake until long after it's apparent. Seeking out an offensive lineman would be publicly acknowledging that he missed on Chris Williams and that he failed to (surprise) turn sixth- and seventh-round picks into consistent, reliable starters.

I for one am a fan of this current Nfl. In years past, you could pretty much look at the games and know who was going to win all of them, except for 2-3 games per week. You can't do that anymore. Teams that are supposed to be good (Vikings, Cowboys, Packers) are getting their asses handed to them, while teams like the Lions and Rams have shown some brilliance already. I hate dynasty teams like the 49ers, Yankees, Cowboys and Red Wings, so I love this kinda season. I am pretty sure the Colts are the best team in football by a mile, but it's still good watching. Nfc is in trouble when it comes to the super bowl, unless one of the contenders can pull something out of their ass. The Jets and the Colts are both miles ahead of any Nfc team.

One point about the Colts: They are one Manning injury away from being the Bills.

There's one unit in Indianapolis that deserves WAY more credit than it receives: The offensive line. Manning is about as mobile as a lamp post, yet the guy has missed very few games due to injury during his career.

Strong O lines are a trademark of teams built by Bill Polian. He made some great picks and pick-ups to build a tremendous offensive line in Buffalo during the Bills' glory years, and the Colts have featured one of the best O lines in the NFL the last decade.

Manning's ability to avoid the rush is hugely underrated. I've seen virtually every Colts game for the last 5 seasons, and he's a kind of genius at getting the most time from the smallest moves. Their line is ok, but not great. He just gets rid of the ball so fast and he's incredibly shifty in the pocket. He's easily my favorite athlete to watch in any sport. Almost nobody combines brain and skill the way he does.

And there isn't a team in football that isn't a QB injury away from oblivion.

You can't really make a strength of schedule argument for any team in the NFL this year. If you look at the talent the Steelers have, they are easily the most well-rounded team in the NFL. Doesn't mean they will finish with the best record but they certainly have all the pieces you need for a Super Bowl run. They're the only team this year that doesn't seem to have any glaring issues yet.
