Damn and here I was looking forward to bouncing off a guard rail at the right spot just to have a top 10 world score. PK's seen it done before, I sent him the video. :)

Here's the latest:

"Yesterday brought the disappointing (but not altogether surprising) news that Gran Turismo 5 would be delayed yet again, missing its presumably set-in-stone November 2 release date. Today, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi issued an official apology to disgruntled fans, and if it's any consolation, he doesn't seem very happy with himself, either.

"I'm really sorry. Everyone, it's inexcusable," Yamauchi wrote on his Twitter account (translation via Kotaku). He also gave at least a brief explanation for why the game suffered yet another delay, saying that, "it's because time and labor were spent ironing the kinks out of [the game's] complex system." Which, appropriately, is just about what you'd expect to hear from a mechanic looking under the hood of your car.

The one silver lining, though, is that Yamauchi really does believe the game will still be out this year, and in fact will still be out before Christmas. According to Andriasang, when one of his followers on Twitter pleaded with to get the game out this year and that he didn't want to wait until after Christmas, Yamauchi replied, "I believe we won't keep you waiting until then."

And at this point, we'll believe it when we see it."

I bet that's the reason. They want to own Christmas hardware and software sales with GT5.

You don't slip games closer to Christmas to increase sales--missing a week in December is like missing two weeks in any other month. There is absolutely no way marketing drove this decision.

But you pickup the hype which will drive hardware sales in anticipation of the game. If the game is in fact coming out right before Christmas they should have a strong December sales.

I would have long cancelled my preorder if it weren't for the fact that out of pocket the game is only costing me less than $20.

This isn't like Gears of War next year, which is going from Spring to Fall. This is moving from early November to an unknown date in December. This KILLS a lot of marketing plans already in place to drive and sustain the game through Holiday. Trust me, I bet people inside Sony are pulling out their hair over this one.

Halo is going to drive hardware sales from September through December; that is what great, system selling games do. GT5 falls into that category for Sony.

I figured it would be delayed a couple of weeks and be out before Black Friday. If that were the case then I would think it was some sort of marketing maneuver for whatever reason. Not having the game release before Black Friday means it's likely not a marketing move. Despite the delay I like the fact that they are trying to put out a fully polished game, as opposed to a lot of companies that rush to meet a deadline and then release a game in need of multiple patches to bring it up to the point it should have been in from release. Plus, I'm almost to the point of getting the F1 Ferrari in Prologue so this delay will give me time to get it.

This is what I was thinking as well. For all the guff these guys get for the delays, it's almost refreshing to read about a company deciding to delay a game after reading some of these other developers (like the EA Louse guy who's been in the gaming media news this week) complain about working crazy hours and being rushed to put out a game they aren't happy with.

If its almost any other game I agree...NOT in this case. This game has been delayed for a YEARS! and these "men" shouldnt be giving get outta jail free cards. They have earned all their abuse.

I can only imagine your reaction if they were EA :P

Isn't it premature to conclude they delayed the game for quality purposes when no one has played the game?

What happens when the game comes out if it isn't very good, or innovative or needs patches? Seems to me every product that has lived off of reputation this generation has been dismal. Makes no matter to me as I don't play racing games but I find it funny that people would accept that excuse.

Piracy prevention is possible reason behind GT 5 delay:

They can only slow them down, they're not going to win. The same went for the PSP. I read that there's already a new Jailbreak and PS Groove in the works that is update-able.

Very plausible;going forward, every PS3 game will include a mandatory install of firmware 3.50.

Check the traction on the X1. Pre-ordered the game today, looking good.

Come on, isn't that replay footage? Who cares? I was blown away by the replays on the likes of Ridge Racer 5 and MotoGP on the PS2, but the real-time rendering wasn't nearly as good. And if the opponent AI isn't corrected in the GT series, it doesn't matter how good it looks. I've held off F1 2010 for the same reason - I'm not buying cr@p games that look good.

Oh, boy: That looks like a fictitious car that a chimp can drive. Gobs of power and ground-sucking downforce, so all you'll need to do is point, shoot, brake and accelerate, with no thought about grip.

Perfect for GT.

For PK regarding the X1-Prototype. It's possible this thing was designed by Adrian Newey to be just like it appears in GT5. Someone posted how the X1 came about.
