How does this work? Do you play as an old school team against the current NBA teams replacing a team or your choice? Or do they let you play in an old school-type league?
You can insert one or as many of the teams as you want in to the current NBA, replacing other teams.

I was thinking about playing as one of the Bulls teams from my youth, replacing the current Bulls team.

For instance could you set-up a league of all classics but have less current amount of NBA teams. So 16 classic teams instead of a full NBA league?

No you still have to keep the current league structure. You could insert all of the other teams, but would still have to keep current teams because the league structure must remain as it is .

Thanks for the info. Still intriguing to have an all-classic season.

I assume that there's a playoff mode and that you do replace NBA teams with classic teams.

Can you use a created team in franchise mode?

Finally picked this up tonight and played the intro game. Now this is what a sports game in 2010 should look like. $63.59 very well spent, and I'm not even close to being a NBA fan. Good job, 2k.

Man... had 63 points on "The Arrival", shot for a good percentage, and just couldn't get the last assist I needed with Jordan. That they kept subbing him out in the fourth quarter made it doubly annoying. Argh!

Okay, here's the situation: I quit giving a damn about the NBA when Jordan, Bird, Magic, and that generation retired. (Thugs and knuckleheads took over) Is this game worth picking up just for the Jordan stuff? I loved that crop of basketball players.

I'm looking at an Atlanta Hawks team in the game right now with Spud Webb, Doc Rivers, Dominique Wilkins, and Moses Malone. How cool is that?

I feel exactly the same and yes it's worth it.

If I have one complaint, it's that some of the star players shoot too much. I know there's some discussion about the "touch tendencies" slider at other sites and I think that needs to be addressed.

I actually think that, at least in the case of Gatorade, it's a case of advertising done right (I didn't notice any HP or Sprite ads in the few games I got to play this weekend). To me, Gatorade as a sponsor of an NBA game makes perfectly good sense. Much more importantly, I love the "G Moments" or whatever they're called, where they show you a bunch of cool-looking replays after the game. If more sports videogames took this approach with in-game advertising, I for one wouldn't have any complaints.

Is everyone still loving this game? Aside from the original half dozen or so that got the game when it first came out, there haven't been many
new posters commenting about this game and the overall "jubilant" mood about this game seems to have dropped significantly. Is this due
to the "honeymoon" period wearing off and finding some issues with the game or is it just everyone is busy having fun playing the game? I
probably will still buy it this week with the TRU sale, but I am just wondering if all the original praise thrown at this game is still justified? Are
there any issues that you think 2K needs to address in a patch?

I don't see how anybody could argue this isn't the most complete sports game ever made, if not the best in general.

I'm still enjoying the game quite a bit. They do need to address the fast breaks in a patch along with the shot touches in my opinion. I'm sure there are other things people would like to see fixed. Those are my top two. Other than that, it's been one of my favorite sports video games in a long long time. Then again, the last couple months have had some great sports games (NHL 11 and Fifa 11) as well.

I think everybody posted their thoughts and is now playing it.

You're reading way too much into it.

I'm just having fun enjoying the game. I actually don't want a patch for gameplay because I find it pretty darn good out of the box and post-patch I will have to waste time tweaking it. The only caveat I'll throw out there is that it takes a considerable amount of time to "unlearn" all the bad habits you've picked up over the years from videogame basketball and there is a considerable learning curve for the controls. I never realized how much I've sleptwalked through possessions in the past where now you have to play with a purpose and watch your passes or the CPU will (for the most part) fairly make you pay. It makes it tons more rewarding and realistic, but mentally taxing at times even on "Pro."

Yeah...that's my experience too. If you take a trip down the floor off a few times, the CPU lead will expand quickly, you really have to pay attention the whole game...which leads me to my complaint.

The only real downside to the game if you're not a huge hoops fan that wants realistic stats is that it can take a long time to play a game. 12 min. quarters running plays almost every possession makes a game take over an hour. However, unlike most games...it's got a freakin' in-game save feature. So there's that...finally. Other than that one minor complaint, this game is ridiculously good. My favorite sports game ever...edging out last years The Show.

Sh*t I may have to rethink this purchase. I have to play 2K10 on default or I lose badly. I'm not very good at BB games.

I'm not either, Rodster. But this game really teaches you about hoops as you go. I've gone from "Run around with Kobe and look for a miracle shot" mode to actually running plays as I go down the floor. I can recognize when they're doubling Kobe and when to call a play for Fisher to get him an open look on the double. I can see when they start pressuring the perimeter and running stuff underneath to Bynum and Gasol. Granted, it makes it considerably easier since I'm a Lakers fan, but I've never really understood basketball until now. That has been well documented.

I think what cracks me up the most is the evolution this game has forced me to go through. DB nailed it. I found myself trailing the Kings by double digits--DOUBLE DIGITS--because I wasn't paying attention to my execution properly for a few runs. I was so focused on running the play that I didn't seem to notice the AI defenders sitting there waiting on a pass. That's where I'm at now. Starting to understand what I want to do better, and now trying not to get so focused on it that I ignore the defense and end up with a string of turnovers.

If you like basketball, I don't see how you can NOT buy this.

Good to hear everyone is still enjoying this game. Some games have an initial high followed by a decline caused by uncovering flaws in the game as you continue to play it more. Sounds like NBA 2K11 is still holding it's own. I am headed over to TRU right now :)
