Re: Fifa 11
Has anyone else had a problem with their virtual pro losing accomplishments? I played very briefly last night and all the accomplisments (arena and some others) that I had completed the previous day were incomplete again.

The first night seemed like simple overload. Last night they were officially taken down for "maintenance."wco81 wrote:What's the deal, Madden 11 servers seem less reliable than previous versions?
Previous versions of FIFA have had reliable online play too.
Ironic if EA Sports games are having online issues when they're making buyers of used games purchase an online access code.

Glad you wrote that - I had the same experience. Bought the game yesterday and was able to get in three games before my daughter lost her s*** (very colicky baby) but in the two games against the CPU one both Championship and then even Division 2 defenders were able to catch up to Torres and brush him off without much problems. It was only if I had a good 10 yard head start were they not able to catch him.Blublub wrote:Coupled with the ability of the slowest defender on a one-star League 2 side to close down even the fastest forward, you end up with about 90 percent of the matches as nil-nil draws. Depending upon how the baby is I hope to catch up with you guys in OTP but I can't say I've seen much in single player that has blown me away (and I'm hesitant to start a Manager Mode until I hear that they fixed it from last year). I was really impressed with the PES 11 Demo and I might have FIFA for OTP and PES for single player.
Or I might just go play more Civ 5 since I can hold the baby in one hand and a mouse in the other (and I get kudos from the wife for the five hours I sit there rocking the baby....little does she know I'm conquering the world).

That's too bad. I had heard that they might be toning it down from FIFA10, which was seen as an overreaction to 09 where it was so easy to make long runs.Macca00 wrote:Glad you wrote that - I had the same experience. My copy is en route but I wonder if you can still play 09 online.
Re: Fifa 11
I wouldn't get your hopes up too far for manager mode - afraid it's a story of one step forward, two steps back. There seems to be no provision for scouting this year although the mechanics of the actual transfer aren't too bad. However, reports are that teams don't rotate players properly or change tactics in games based on opponents (or even scores). Not sure why they can't simply utilized their management game code in the fifa engine other than they can't be bothered. Haven't seen the dreaded two matches on one day that featured either last year or the year before.Macca00 wrote:Glad you wrote that - I had the same experience. For a laugh though I give you the Konami Marketing Department - I swear Douglas Adams must have patterned the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation after them (perhaps it's the other way round!). Ordered PES 2011 pc from the site linked to by Konami which had the game listed as available, only to have them issue me an email that indicated the game would be available on October 8 so thanks for pre-ordering! The note was that they had apprently released the digital download version early by mistake.

However, at least PES seems solid based on limited play with the PS3 demo.
Best wishes,

Scouting is pointless unless your playing football manager where it's hides ratings. I've never seen PES ever change it's tactics from game to game based on who the CPU was playing. It's one thing to say FIFA doesn't do this but to lament it and say PES is better when it doesn't do it, is nuts.
Re: Fifa 11
I'm not so sure that scouting is pointless - sure it would be more meaningful in the context of a beefed up management module. I'm pretty sure you're right about the tactics not changing in PES, but the AI does change lineups to rest players which FIFA unfortunately still doesn't appear to do. You end up quite often playing a team with one or more players that the AI should have sat due to low energy levels.
Sadly, as has been noted on the evo-web boards, we're not seeing much progress in the manager mode module although at least it doesn't appear to be as hopelessly broken as last year.
Best wishes,
Doug

Re: Fifa 11
PES over rotates it's squad like Rafa at Liverpool. PES does it based on stamine but also the arrows. It will sit a downward arrow Ronaldo for a red arrow bench player. Meaning that bad players with red arrows were more effective than top players.dougb wrote:I'm not so sure that scouting is pointless - sure it would be more meaningful in the context of a beefed up management module. Here's the issue, fatigue is really only modeled correctly in FM. FIFA has an okay system because it went to a calendar system. Injuries needed to happen more frequently but if a real life manager had 7 days and little injuries it would put out the same side. Also lacking is form. PES arbitrarily assigns a form setting for players. FIFA discarded it's system. A real life manage is going to sit someone who's playing poorly but that's not modeled in both games. In PES you could be playing well and get the down arrow of death for no logical reason.
Re: Fifa 11
I bumped this up to legendary because I just couldn't stand the amount of tackles I had. On World Class the CPU seemed unable to get rid of the ball fast enough by either passing or dribbling in another way.
Usually on WC, I can out tackled the CPU 2 to 1 even with the score being even and the teams being close. My one issue in this department is, I wish passes had more speed and the CPU kicked it back sooner in their decision making process.
Actually what I think they did, was turn down fouls from the demo. I thought foul calling in the demo was good. It's a bit too lenient in the full version.

Re: Fifa 11
That's interesting because I've pretty much only played otp games with my club guy, and I've been struck about how good the fouling is in terms of lots of accidental fouls, ability to draw easy fouls, ability to purposely cause a foul that doesn't mean an automatic yellow, and the cards seem fair and well deserved too. I'm starting to think that it has the best feeling to fouls since the good old days of we9. But it could well be that this is only valid for online otp play.JRod wrote:

In WE9, I loved the fact that the longer you held the shoulder charge you could push the player and get a foul. In FIFA, I just feel, I'm going to make the tackle 90% of the time, with little penalty. I don't see why it would be different offline since there are sliders.
Re: Fifa 11
A question for you guys - is their a Fifa fan website comparable to PESfan.com? I've found lots of useful stuff for PES there over the years but haven't found a comparable place for tips, tricks, edits, etc. for Fifa.
Re: Fifa 11
For me that's what separates PES from FIFA. I don't know if this has been answered before but on what game engine is FIFA 11 (PC) based on? I've been thinking of buying the PC version this year.EZSnappin wrote:A question for you guys - is their a Fifa fan website comparable to PESfan.com? I believe that it is based off Fifa 10. I know they've been hyping it as the first to move to the next gen engine.Rodster wrote: I don't know if this has been answered before but on what game engine is FIFA 11 (PC) based on? I've been thinking of buying the PC version this year.
Re: Fifa 11
Lot of complaints at FIFA forums about disconnects and some kind of a delay online from when one inputs actions.
Seems to be contradictory to other accounts of the game being more responsive.

Re: Fifa 11
Well, I received my gamefly rental a few days ago. First off, great game. With that said, frustrating game too.
+ Player models, graphics, look great on the PS3.
+ Presentation as always is very good.
+ The game is scaled back in terms of speed when compared to the demo while playing on "slow".
+ Can clearly see the differences between skilled teams and mediocre teams.
+ Against the CPU, it doesn't seem as if they're using any kind of cheat or comeback A.I.
+ Sure it seems easy to slide tackle or take the ball away from the CPU, they seemingly can often times do the same to me. It
equals out.
- Game freezes at least once a game for a minimum of 3-4 seconds on the PS3 Slim. I've read others commenting the same.
- Using the English language, "It's bloody hard to score". Compared to NHL 11, you don't get many chances, and this game can
drive me to drink!
- While the game is slower paced on "slow" speed, I still feel at times I can't get much separation between myself and the player tracking me.
- I either can't grasp the feints or my reflexes are just too darn slow. Therein lies a major problem. Because I can't just dribble by my opponent,
I'm forced to use a special skill which under the pressure of being shadowed, I very frequently give up the ball.
- This game requires patience. I think I may have ADD. Setting up possessions take time and strategy and it's quite common for me to say
"f**k it" go away from what I'm trying to do.
All in all, a very enjoyable game, but one that I can see growing a bit tired of after a few weeks given my lack of patience and skill. I know I know...practice practice practice. However, when there are games like NHL 11 and NBA 2K11 which are pretty much pick up and play games, this game tends to work my last nerve at times. I'll keep at it and hopefully it'll click for me over time.

Re: Fifa 11
Had a couple of nice OTP games today but the one that I had some kind of influence ended up freezing up online.

Re: Fifa 11
For those of you having trouble opening up any space when you have he ball, I suggest using the lofted through-ball. A LOT!!
The defensive AI in this game will just eat up through balls on the ground, at least for passers who don't have the "fancy passing" trait that allows them to curve the ball more. They are much less effective on balls in the air, particularly if the recipient is a target man or has good strength and balance. You can pop the ball up in the air and your forward can control and get well beyond the back 4.

Re: Fifa 11
WCO, online OTP games do get laggy at times. Most of the time I've had minimal lag and responsive OTP play, but once in a which things get herky-jerky, and at times that can lead to some major input lag, as in more than a second or even two. In my experience, this has cleared up somehow after a reset in the game after a stoppage in play, such as when the game resets after a goal or what not. Fortunately for me, this problem has only occurred when I'm playing random ranked OTP games and not in club games, but it can be pretty much debilitating to the ability to function in OTP. I imagine these issues will be cleared up over time.

Re: Fifa 11
It's interesting how EA has balanced play in the PC version of FIFA 11: The AI of non-player controlled defenders on the human team is lousy. My players just stand there and watch through ball after through ball go right past them, staying with no one on runs, if I'm not controlling them.
I know FIFA 11 for the PC is based on FIFA 10 for the consoles. Was the defensive AI this bad in this game on consoles last year? I'm playing at the default (Professional) level, right out of the box.
Plus the overall control of the game with a Logitech Rumblepad 2 is much more sluggish in the retail game than the demo. There just seems be a momentary disconnect between my button presses and action on the field, and it's disconcerting. Odd, as responsive controls were one of the things I enjoyed in the demo.
Disappointing so far.
