Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I don't see a thread for this game. Do you guys think it will be a NEW Gran Turismo, or will be the same bumper-car racing with much better graphics? I hope it's at least in the same league as the latest Forza. November can't come fast enough! My friend's little brother who is 19 told me he plans to break up with his gf of a year once this game drops, to devote all his time to it LOL.

I think the AI in Gran Turismo Prologue is quite a bit better than in previous GTs. Yeah, it's still too much on rails to be ideal, but hell the game is so much fun I don't care. I've played the hell out of Prologue in the short time I've owned it.

I dunno , i was realy pumped for it but after F1 by codies i feel the bar has been raised for fun factor and it might just feel dull after it.
Lets see razzing round Tokyo in a prius against 8 shitty ai cars or tear inducing speeds around spa in a Mclaren, hmmm

Gran Turismo is a fantastic series -- if you enjoy car collecting. It's closer to a Barrett-Jackson auction than a motor race.

Bingo. The car collecting, graphics and presentation will no doubt be superb but the actual racing will be ass.fletcher21 wrote:.....will it be the same bumper-car racing with much better graphics?

What took you so long? PK is really a closet GT fan in disguise, don't let his utter contempt for the game fool you.pk500 wrote:Gran Turismo is a fantastic series -- if you enjoy car collecting. It's closer to a Barrett-Jackson auction than a motor race.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
if it were only the racing model in GT which is bad, the title may be tolerable.
however in addition to the racing model, the driving model is also terrible. As indicated in the GT5 demo a few months ago, the experience doesn't resemble driving a car.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
As PK has mentioned many times, the Gran Turismo series has never properly evolved past the first one. It's always gotten bigger and prettier and never really enhanced the racing portion. The best formula for racing in GT is brake late, turn fast or use the cars as a guard rail to move up the pack.vinny-b wrote:if it were only the racing model in GT which is bad, the title may be tolerable.

And if you're real creative you hit the wall at the right spot to bounce off without losing speed to set the fastest time on the leaderboards. PK remembers that one all too well.

Ha. The first game back in 1998 was brilliant, way ahead of its time graphically and for sheer content. Every other game in the series has just milked the tit of the original's reputation.Rodster wrote:What took you so long? GT never has been even close to a simulation of driving or racing, even by console standards.
It's a very lovely series of car-collecting and customizing games.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I'd be interested in this game if they finally added fun to the series.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Agree, agree and agree. Spot on on all accounts.pk500 wrote:

The really sad thing is I know that it isnt worth it but I will probably buy it anyway

Me too !XXXIV wrote:The really sad thing is I know that it isnt worth it but I will probably buy it anyway

Hell I just picked up MotoGP 09/10 and Import Tuner for the 360. I don't think GT5 will be worse than those two.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Sadly, I think I'm going to be a sucker and buy it. I can't resist the idea of doing laps on the Top Gear track.

You get me a rig that can run it and I'm in. Right now there isn't a Mac version and I haven't had a Windows machine at home since Windows 3.1 (and that wasn't even mine but a work loaner). And there is no way I'm going to dual boot this thing even if I could.
So GT, here I come!

And that's why I quit buying Macs, too many cool racing games that are Windozed based that I can't do without.EZSnappin wrote:pk500 wrote:You already can, my man! Keeping my Mac is the only reason I'm not broke from buying PC games as well as console ones!Rodster wrote:And that's why I quit buying Macs, too many cool racing games that are Windozed based that I can't do without.EZSnappin wrote:You get me a rig that can run it and I'm in. Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I just don't understand how the series has managed to create and maintain such a large group of fans who believe "GT or nothing" when it comes to racing games.
I played the hell out of GT1, 2, and 3. But I have next-to-no interest in GT5, that time trial demo they had of the Indy road course was just awful.

I don't understand how anyone can label Gran Turismo a racing game or even worse a racing sim. It falls painfully flat as both. I never tried GT5 Prologue but based on objective feedback from others who have bought it the AI is slightly better.Dave wrote:I just don't understand how the series has managed to create and maintain such a large group of fans who believe "GT or nothing" when it comes to racing games.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
This particular edition has been delayed how many times?
They're packing in strategic features to help the platform.
First it was 1080p, then I guess the pit stop was suppose to be ray-traced?
I think the last thing was that it would support 3D?
In the past, they would have had at least 2 GT titles released during 5 years of a console.
There will be interest from people who are interested in the technology but you wonder if the anticipation is still there since they have been showing aspects of this game since before the PS3 even launched.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Oddly I think the brand still has a lot of currency among the more casual console gamers. Somehow this absurd delay hasn't eroded that too much. A few guys I know from work who have PS3s seem to be excited about this game, and they aren't racing game fans by any measure. These guys seem to consider that GT5 will still be some sort of pinnacle of realistic racing games. I can't fathom how it all works, but I'm sure GT5 will sell in massive numbers. How many of those discs will still be spinning in machines a month or two after release probably won't be all that great, but I'm convinced the game will fly off the shelves.
To me it's a bit like Duke Nukem Forever, and I really enjoyed that article about DNF that fletch linked to a while ago. GT seems to me to be a victim of seriously pathological feature creep, and I'm almost surprised they've finally committed to a release date. Or have they?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
GT's always been a DRIVING simulator, not a RACING simulator. It says so right on the cover. Yeah, the AI sucks, but to me, no other racing comes close in terms of driving the cars, the weight shifting, the drifting, there's just a "weightiness" to the cars that no other game comes close to replicating. Getting the weight to shift just at the right millisecond going around a corner, when you get it just right, it's very rewarding, something I don't feel in other games.
I'm loving F1 2010, but still, the cars seem floaty compared to the F1 cars in GT. There's a slight disconnect there that I don't feel in the GT series. In the GT series I really feel the car is in the track.
And those Super License tests are like crack to me. Worth the price of the game, to me anyways.
