NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
Downloaded the demo and gave it a quick go before working out this morning. Very limited impressions but so far:
The good: New control scheme shows promise
The bad: I don't know how to describe it but it doesn't feel tight. It feels a little sloppy.
The default camera is a chase camera so I really want to check out how it feels and plays in broadcast view.
So far I'm a little underwhelmed by both NBA demos.

Just downloaded and played it. Wow, was this supposed to replace Live?

I am guessing u didn't like it?Murph wrote:Just downloaded and played it. Wow, was this supposed to replace Live?

So what is this new control scheme all about? There has been very little new or innovation
in NBA games (both Live & 2K) in recent years. The "live" DNA was a nice touch, but little
has changed in the core gameplay.

So do we now have Gears of Basketball ???ScoopBrady wrote:The default camera is a chase camera.

Game is being ripped to shreads over at OS. I'm almost felt sorry for the EA dev who was answering game related questions...almost. But they screwed us NCAA Basketball 10 owners when they refused to patch that game. So I hope this game tanks hard!

Wonderful. Guess it's another year of 2k hoops for me. I'll still rent Elite...but now that my hopes have been all but eliminated, I really am not all that excited about it.sportdan30 wrote:Game is being ripped to shreads over at OS. Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
The last rumor I read on several websites is NBA Elite 11 is make or break for the series and EA may drop their basketball series if sales stink. It's not looking good atm.

Good riddance. This series has been a turd for as long as I can remember.Rodster wrote:The last rumor I read on several websites is NBA Elite 11 is make or break for the series and EA may drop their basketball series if sales stink. It's not looking good atm.

I disagree. The same thing could have been said about the NHL and FIFA series yet look at them now. The Triple Play series was also reinvigorated with the change to MVP. Why would you want less choices and competition in basketball games?GTHobbes wrote:Good riddance. It's not that I want less choices in any sports game category, it's just that I wouldn't at all miss the choice that EA's basketball game gives us. Maybe if they took a year or two off, they could come back with a respectable product.ScoopBrady wrote:I disagree. Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
Ok...I'll be the first. I like it. Played 2K11 right after and 2K looks better at least brighter but I thought that the Elite controls felt better. 2K11 seems a little sluggish to me. They are both hit and miss to me and with that said...i'm just a casual basketball gamer. I was thinking this was the year that I pass on a soccer game and pick up a hoops game but i'm not really wowed by either of them. I'll have to play them both some more for sure before deciding.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
Since I'm not a fan of the NBA, and there's no more college hoops, then I don't have a dog in the hunt anyway.
But I actually really liked the new control scheme of Elite.

This sums up my feelings pretty well. I played both last year, and stuck with Live because of the AI playcalling. It looks like 2K has incorporated real sets this year which is great; however, I still don't like playing their brand of basketball. Looks great though.tjung0831 wrote:Ok...I'll be the first. Elite has great individual control but the 5 on 5 is janky and awkward, and the playsets seem to be subpar compared to last year. I think I'll just skip b-ball games this year and play more FIFA.
Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
If true, I hope this prompts 2K to get back in the college hoops business to go along side their NBA game.Rodster wrote:The last rumor I read on several websites is NBA Elite 11 is make or break for the series and EA may drop their basketball series if sales stink. It's not looking good atm.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
They won't because they have said that the cost of the NCAA license vs sales was poor. EA also came to the same conclusion even without 2K in the picture. I don't think wheel see College Hoops for a long time until the NCAA drops their asking price.Murph wrote:If true, I hope this prompts 2K to get back in the college hoops business to go along side their NBA game.Rodster wrote:The last rumor I read on several websites is NBA Elite 11 is make or break for the series and EA may drop their basketball series if sales stink. Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
This is the sad part. Logic says that the CLC (Collegiate Licensing) should lower the price . . . making some money by selling rights to your license is better than making no money - but I guess they have their reasons.Rodster wrote:They won't because they have said that the cost of the NCAA license vs sales was poor. Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
I am actually not all that unhappy with the demo. It shows some promise. Obviously it's not up to 2k standards but it seems like there is some fun to be had. It's definitely not the worst game ever like some would make you believe.

That was pretty damn funny. My favorite was when Garnett is shooting free throws you can still see him (is it Bynum or Artest?) at half court.Zlax45 wrote:Can't figure out how to embed.....but check out this video

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
As a casual hoops gamer, the biggest problem I have had with most of the recent baseketball games is the lack of control you feel over your player. I'm not talking about the types of moves available to me, but rather how these moves are executed.
Almost every next-gen NBA game I've tried leaves me feeling very disconnected from how my players move. There are too many animations that get in the way of just moving the player around at the moment you want to. The only one I've played on the PS3 that feels remotely responsive is Live '08. To someone watching one of these games, they sure do look sweet, but they are not that fun to play when you don't feel like you have control over you player at all times.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo impressions
Let's put it this way: now I know why NBA Jam is included with the retail.
Yes, this is a demo, but I see enough of where they're trying to go, and I don't like it. In the effort to do something new, they took a step back in nearly every department, including graphics. And this is someone who really enjoyed Live 10.
Even something as seemingly admirable as re-designing the control scheme to give the user more of a hold on things is marred by the concept of making a shot 100% based on the user's skill (says so in the tutorial). Wait, I want shot success to be determined by my skill AND player ratings. Really mainly player ratings. What are they talking about?
Guys, this is basically a reboot of the series, so I'd expect all the frustrations and shortcomings that go along with a new title to apply here. Not interested.
What's frustrating is they decide to do this just when Live was starting to get competitive with 2K.

I didn't realize you could change the camera angle until I watched the video and I'm glad I did, because that Jesus stuff was hilarious.
