Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
ach I've upgraded to windows 7 and apparently the game needs an older version of Dx 9 to work - not sure I want to much about with that so I'll download the demo from PSN and have a look at it on the PS3. Impressed with Fifa demo so far so hopefully 2 good soccer games.
Best wishes,
Doug

You probably need the latest DX9 update (June 2010) which you can find here -> http://www.filehippo.com/download_directx/

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Any word on when the PS360 demos will be available???
Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Starting download now. Kind of soured on the soccer games last few years, wonder if either FIFA or PES will grab me this year.
Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
PS3 or 360? I just looked on XBL under demos and it wasn't there.Naples39 wrote:Starting download now. Kind of soured on the soccer games last few years, wonder if either FIFA or PES will grab me this year.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Thanks for the head's up on this, Doug. I downloaded the PC demo last night and am enjoying it.
PES 2011 feels like quite a different game than its predecessors. A few highlights from my very limited time with the demo:
-- Human defense is tougher. It's harder to strip the ball from the CPU.
-- Passing is much more organic and touch-sensitive. Even short passes no longer are automatic or have that "magnetized to the recipient" feel. Precision aiming is essential.
-- As someone who never had a good touch for power in shots and passes, I very much appreciate the small power meter that appears beneath each player when shooting or crossing.
-- Many, many more fouls are called. Hallelujah! A PES game finally gets that aspect of the game correct.
-- Many cool new animations.
-- Player skill level seems to matter more than ever. Messi is able to dribble out of trouble and keep possession in traffic better than mere mortals, as it should be. And the advantage of great players seems larger than ever, but it's not overwhelming.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I felt underwhelmed with the demo. To me, Konami seems to still ask themselves whether they want to stick to a more sim style of play and being realistic and are stuck at what they want to deliver. The pace is slower overall but I struggled with long passes and crosses to no one. Played only the "Copa Libertadores" mode which I welcome with open arms but the mexican players just couldn't put 3 passes together and looked rather clumsy against Intercontinental. All this on manual of course. So far I played only this mode and with the Chivas team, so I'd like to see if playing Bayern or Barcelona would improve things for me. The ball didn't have the weighty feel of 2010 and I struggled with shooting.
On a positive note the menus seems less clunky and is easier to navigate amd they added some cool animations except the Keeper which still looks too robotic. Noticed some framerate drop on the PS3 demo as well and with Fifa's brilliant demo, this maybe the year I'll skip this title if things don't change much from the demo.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Comparing PC demos, PES seems much more rigid and less free-flowing than FIFA this year. But again, FIFA only provides Amateur skill level, so that may contribute to the more loose feel of that game.
I'm having more fun with FIFA due to the more responsive controls and realistic ball physics. But both games simulate physical battles for the ball and player momentum better than before. And I still feel I need to have more tactical soccer sense to succeed in PES, while FIFA feels a bit more gamey, more like a schoolyard game, to me even though it's AI is solid.
Very eager to try the full versions of both to continue the comparison.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Been playing the PS3 demo tonight. Holy crap is this a nice upgrade! After being severely disappointed with the shambolic FIFA 11, PES 2011 was my only hope. Man has it come through. The control feels so nice and the shooting system is excellent. I looked through the command list and this game has an insane number of moves. The video that is shown at then end of the match shows the features of the game. It has done nothing but make me want the full game in the worst way. PES appears to be back in full force.

What didn't you like about FIFA 11? I haven't gotten either yet but have been leaning on PES 2011.toonarmy wrote:Been playing the PS3 demo tonight. Holy crap is this a nice upgrade! Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I don't like the control, the ridiculous defensive AI, the crap shooting system, my cpu-controlled teammates on offense that have no brain, etc. Not to mention I do not think the game resembles realistic football. The various boards list a litany of issues with the game, but those are my main complaints.Rodster wrote:What didn't you like about FIFA 11? Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I see. As I had mentioned myself I had a lot of trouble this year telling the difference between NHL 10/11 and FIFA 10/11. Gives me an excuse to save some money and go with PES 2011.toonarmy wrote:I don't like the control, the ridiculous defensive AI, the crap shooting system, my cpu-controlled teammates on offense that have no brain, etc. Not to mention I do not think the game resembles realistic football. FIFA 10 to FIFA 11 is a huge difference. It may have some things wrong with it, but I'm not sure how you can't tell the difference.Rodster wrote:

I can't speak to NHL 10 because I didn't give that much time. But FIFA 10 to FIFA 11 is large upgrade. I think the problem is there are no EA Marketing bullet points to tell everyone whats improved.
Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Ha...thought with was the FIFA thread.
I'm probably getting PES sometime around Xmas. Every time I get FIFA then immediately PES, I sell both quickly because what one does that other doesn't and so forth. So I'm going to hold off and by that time there's usually enough option files and stuff to fill the game up.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I honestly couldn't tell you the difference. I'm starting to get to the point where these yearly sports titles are melding together and it's getting harder and harder to pickup on the subtleties.JRod wrote:FIFA 10 to FIFA 11 is a huge difference. Does anyone have any idea when the demo is coming? I find it somewhat odd how Konami seems to ignore the US market.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I'm with Rod: The full PC version of PES 2011 feels like a case of same sh*t, different year. All of the same flaws that drive me nuts about Konami soccer every year are still there: Sleepy defensive AI for the human player, wooden controls, not enough fouls, too much reliance on special moves and controller combinations, horrible commentary and atmosphere, terrible defense down the flanks by the CPU team allowing almost unlimited crosses, etc.
Maybe the console version has made big strides.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
I played the demo last night numerous times...game feels way better than the FIFA 11 demo to me. I played FIFA 11 right after and that game felt like driving a tank compared to the PES demo. I'll be grabbing PES11 without a doubt. Gameplay mechanics felt really good and it felt lively and didn't feel canned or scripted to me. Very impressed with the PES11 demo.....very very nice.
