OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
I'm not sure how many are interested in picking up Halo Reach but I figured someone here could benefit from Best Buy's pre-order deal. Best Buy will give you 500 rewards points (that equals a $10 gift card) for pre-ordering Halo Reach from their website. You can select in-store pickup as well. On top of that you will receive a $20 gift card when you pick up the game. That's $30 in gift cards if you're interested. I was planning on picking it up so I hopped on this deal. Oh, I'm pretty sure you can do this with an in-store reserve as well.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
I have been on the fence about this game, as the Halo 3 campaign was pretty fun, but I've never been able to really get into Halo online.
I was probably gonna wait around and gamefly this one, but this deal might be good enough to make me jump on a retail copy. Thanks for the tip.

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Unsurprisingly, 9.5 review score from IGN. I think I'm going to order today as soon as BB website starts working again regarding their rewards program, which is apparently required to get the additional 500 gamer points.

CLOSING COMMENTS
Halo: Reach is a fantastic package, with several core components that on their own can outclass many other games. The campaign is excellent, backed by solid storytelling and a powerful audio-visual experience. The competitive multiplayer is familiar, yet brand new with a lot more options and a faster pacing. And the cooperative Firefight arcade mode has finally met its potential. Whether you like playing with friends like me or you're more of a lone wolf, Halo: Reach has evolved to the point where it'll make everyone happy. It's a fitting end to Bungie's involvement with the franchise, one that both references the past and injects new life into a tried and true formula. Newcomers and Halo fans alike will find plenty to love in Halo: Reach. Even if you've grown tired of the Halo formula through the years, I'd still recommend this game to you. It's just that good.

You get a $25 GC plus $25 off on select titles. $25+$25 = $50

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
NP but in order for the deal to work better than yours you would need a game you wanted from the get go. If Red Dead was on the list I would have gone the Kmart deal.ScoopBrady wrote:Ah, that little bit of information eluded me. Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Well I ordered through the BB deal since I have no intention on buying any of those titles on the list.
Planning on doing in store pickup on Thursday.

Should be in the mail now.
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
I was going to buy it, but I just can't right now. Finances are far too tight for me to consider purchasing a game at the moment. Might pick it up in a couple weeks, but then again, Medal of Honor is on the horizon...

You try that beta at all. It was kind of underwhelming. Honestly what impressed me the most was the sound.Teal wrote:I was going to buy it, but I just can't right now. I don't know if it's because I was unfamiliar with the weapons, lag, or just bad hit detection but I had trouble discerning when I would actually kill someone or they would get me. Seemed kind of unreliable to me.
Then again, it didn't have jackasses sprinting around knifing people and other nonsense, which is pretty big addition by subtraction.
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
You know the only halo game I ever liked was the first one. I never got into Halo 2 and Halo 3 I rented for a week when it came out and got bored 30 minutes into it and just returned it. The only Halo I kind of want to play is Halo Wars.
Even though Halo Reach has been getting good reviews i'll probably wait for it to go on sale for $29.99

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Assuming you will be spending $30 at Bestbuy anytime soon, that's kind of what the deal Scoop posted already is. I mean I don't have any definite purchases lined up, but it will happen sooner or later.Rodster wrote:Even though Halo Reach has been getting good reviews i'll probably wait for it to go on sale for $29.99
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
BUT it's not really a $30 game unless the discount is upfront. If I buy the game at full price with $30 in credits and buy another game at $60, that game will come down in price to $30. So to find out what Halo Reach really cost is to divide $90 ($60+$30 = $90) into 2 which equals $45. That's what Halo Reach is really selling at...$45Naples39 wrote:Assuming you will be spending $30 at Bestbuy anytime soon, that's kind of what the deal Scoop posted already is. That's why I usually shy away from those deals. It's like the car dealer telling you your trade is worth more than it really is because they are budging on the price of the new car.
edit: If I didn't already buy Split Second then the Kmart deal would have been better because I would have had $50 in credits applied to Split Second. ($59.99+$9.99=69.98) Halo Reach at that point is really $34.99
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Not really. Your math is only correct if you change your future behavior based on having those gift cards.Rodster wrote:BUT it's not really a $30 game unless the discount is upfront. If you were later going to spend $30 at BB anyway, then you really did get Halo for $30 and bought the future item at full price, if you prefer to think of it that way. That's why I said "assuming you will spend $30 at BB at some point in the future." I know I will sooner or later.
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Sorry but I don't follow the logic because if I think of it that way then Reach really costs $60. If i'm using those credits for another videogame purchase then either i'm paying full price for Reach or $30 off the next videogame.
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Totally pointless discussion at this point, but...
the point is that I will eventually make more purchases at best buy whether I do this deal or not, and when all is said and done, I will have gotten $30 worth of free merchandise from the store. Whether you want to assign the $30 discount to Halo or another item in your head is completely arbitrary.

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
I picked up the game at lunch and we played a few rounds of slayer. Tons of customization in this game, like the new load outs, like the credits to buy better equipment and the fact that you can get them in local games. My favorite part if the b*tch slap of a battle rifle doesn't kill people out right anymore which was my biggest complaint.
It's still a twitch shooter and I am woefully bad compared to the guys here who play Halo everyday but I mainly wanted it for he campaign.

I agree i'll wait for the real price to hit $29.99, not a big Halo fan anyway.Naples39 wrote:Totally pointless discussion at this point, but...

edit: You can download a free halo Reach theme.
Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
I'm not interested in s*** like Slayer. I hate that crap.
I'm interested in the story, and Firefight mode.
But then again, I may not even purchase it after the 'me, too' effect wears off...

Well I will let you know tonight after I play it some, I'd sure like to try the campaign 4 player but I doubt that will happen.Teal wrote:I'm not interested in s*** like Slayer. I hate that crap.

Re: OT: Halo Reach (including Best Buy deal)
Fshguy and I are through 7 of the 9 campaign missions on Heroic. It's definitely another Halo game, which for me is a great thing but I realize others may not feel that way. I haven't tried multiplayer (other than the beta) because I always play through the campaign first. It is cool that we are earning credits to customize our Spartan which shows up in the campaign as well as the multiplayer. Later we're going to knock out the last two missions on heroic but we'll definitely be up for playing through it again on Legen ... wait for it ... dary. Also, there have been a couple cool cameos for fans of the fiction and the prior games.
