Is the 360 Dead?
Seems like the best days for the XBox 360 are clearly behind them. New releases are few and far between now. Seems like I am gaming now more on my iPhone than my 360.
I don't fire up my console nearly as much as I used to and have even considered selling it. Even when you go to the stores, the display areas for the 360 almost look like an afterthought,
compared to the areas for the Wii.
Do any of you guys have the same feelings and are you showing your 360 any love these days? I am seriously considering cancelling my XBL subscribtion, as the only time I connect live is to check for game updates. Those "golden days" of XBox Live with 12-20 DSP members online every night seem a long ways away now. Makes me sad.

The display areas look like an afterthought because the 360 sold almost 200,000 more hardware units than the Wii did in July. Its just you.JackB1 wrote:Seems like the best days for the XBox 360 are clearly behind them.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
Just you. The games being released few and far between is because it is summer. Summer is always a slow time for video games. Actually, it's usually slow from February until the end of summer but this year there were a ton of AAA games released between February and June that it just makes the past month-and-a-half look paltry. Next week things will start to amp up as Mafia 2 is released followed shortly by NHL 11 and then the floodgates of October, November, and December.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
You've hardly had your Iphone that long? A matter of days or weeks, correct? Wait a few months at least before declaring gaming on an Iphone to be the new way to game. You couldn't have played through even half of all the 360 titles I'd imagine either.
Now, I could understand if you said you're tiring of console gaming. I am just a bit, except for a few sports titles. But to say the 360 is digressing seems incorrect. I just think there are certain times of the year where you will see waves of games being released. This is the slow time for gaming. When the big titles come out, I'm usually overwhelmed with how many titles there are!
With regards to the Wii, 80-90 percent of those games are crap!

Yeah I actually expect I'll spend more money on games this fall than I did last fall. I'd say things are going pretty strong IMO.
Also agree on the Wii games.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
The 360 just sold more units last month then any other console. It also is outpacing it's previous years.
So I'd say with YtY sales going up, a slew of new games coming out and stellar arcade titles being released it is far from dead.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I'm getting bored of console gaming.
It's around this time we would normally have the next-gen but they're trying to stretch it with the Kinect and the Move.
Sports gaming in particular seems to be in a rut. You only have one choice in most sports, with certain franchises regressing, very little innovation.
In other genres, it's sequels after sequels.
Sony announced new hardware but it's just bigger hard drives at the same price or a bundle with Move. With sales declining the last couple of years, and still economic doldrums, it's a strange time to be introducing peripherals which cost over $100.
Ironically, what might help PS3 sales is news of a USB stick hack, which will allow you to copy games to the HDD and play them without discs.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I own all 3 machines and the 360 gets played the most with the Wii the least. I usually buy the 360 version of a multiplatorm game. So nope it seems to be you.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
With the Kinetic making soon a debut and the usual heavier fall lineup, I don't think the 360 is staring at the coffin anytime soon. Like wco81 said, more people may be inclined to buy the PS3 now with the magic dangle (hell I am thinking of getting a second one now), but one area I may agree is that perhaps the interest in some games itself may be dwindling as we all get older, and the excitement is not as strong as in previous years, except when it comes to NHL on this side of the border.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I'm the opposite. I was burned out on console games the last few years but for some reason I'm back. For sports games this last year I've enjoyed nhl10 madden 10/11 and NCAA 10/11. Also love playing FIFA wc sa 2010. All these are on the 360.
And Xbla has upped the quality of games to dl. Tecmo, limbo, 1vs100(now dead) I enjoyed.
I hope the 360 and xbl stay around for a long time.

I've been wondering when the annual DSP summer "I'm growing bored/tired of console gaming" thread would pop up. I'm now looking forward to the DSP fall/winter "Most fun I've had console gaming since the Dreamcast" thread.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
The 360 may not be dead, but I've noticed the gap between the 360 and PS3 numbers for the biggest titles (e.g., Madden) is getting smaller than ever before.
Re: Is the 360 Dead?
Not surprising because there are more PS3's out there especially since the Slim was released. That's one of the few things Sony got right this gen. As was mentioned before the 360 Slim killed everybody last month and may do so for a few months and they also had a solid month wrt software as well. I would have bought one myself if my 360 Pro would have died which it hasn't thanks to the Nyko Intercooler.GTHobbes wrote:The 360 may not be dead, but I've noticed the gap between the 360 and PS3 numbers for the biggest titles (e.g., Madden) is getting smaller than ever before.

A typical overreaction thread?
360 is all I play anymore when it comes to consoles. Sold my original launch 60GB PS3 nearly a month back and haven't missed it.

What did you sell it for, if I may ask? I have a mint condition 60GB that i'm thinking of selling.Wilk5280 wrote:A typical overreaction thread?

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
Just you.
The 360 has always been *my* most played console in the house, and now it's eclipsed the Wii as my kids' favorite as well.
And as many others have already said, it's selling great!

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I'd go so far to say that the 360 is the most played console I have ever owned.
My firned asked last night if I would get a Move controller and I honestly couldn't recall the last time I played a game on my PS3

Unfortunately, not at much as I would have liked. On ebay these things haven't held the high value that I was expecting they might.
375 with DVD / BluRay remote, Uncharted 2, and a few PS2 games (MGS 3, SSX 3, HSG Fore!)

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I think u hit the nail on the head as to why the 360 has gotten "stale" for me. There is very little new and fresh in sports games lately and it seems like all the sequels are just the same game as last year, with new rosters. What was the last sports game that really was innovative and broke new ground? I have no idea.wco81 wrote:I'm getting bored of console gaming.

I am encouraged by the responses of most of you here, stating that the 360 platform is as strong as ever. I know it's now the "dog days of summer" and we will have a bunch of new releases in the upcomg months, but I just don't see the same amount of quality games released as I used to. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe I'm just losing my zest for gaming. Whatever it is, I am finding myself with my controller in hand less and less lately. Hopefully it's just one of those "gaming slumps"

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
I think we all go through phases or slumps. Last night a friend told me he had 5 bounties to go to finish RDR on 100%. I said I stopped playing that game. When he asked why, knowing how excited i was about it I really had no good reason. Right now I am in a PC gaming phase, doing 90% of my gaming time on the PC, that will give way to something else at some point.
I think what was established in this thread is that an individual losing interest is certainly not tied to a consoles strength. I honestly don't see new versions of either platform for the next 3-5 years.

Re: Is the 360 Dead?
Personally, I'm not ready to move on to a new next gen yet. Hell, some of the sports games are just now getting up to where I can see myself giving them some seriously prolonged attention and playtime.
There are some really, REALLY good non-sports games still coming out on these current systems as well. IMO, it's not time to move on yet.
