It is a shame you feel that way about playing defense, though, as I think that's clearly an area that's a HUGE improvement over EA's games, where I never really feel in control of anything or making any difference.
I think some people want to have the "god" ability that NCAA/Madden. That's the way we expect to play football games. BB does things differently but not worse. It is hard to switch players to play every position and personally, I don't do it. I will say that there is nothing more rewarding that making a play in BB.

On the 360, I think you need to have the transfer thing. Is it xplay or something. However users have edited rosters that probably mirror the NFL quite well.
For the PS3, you can get logos and unis but because team data is encrypted, that's a no go.

Amen. I have just as much fun playing defense (I usually control an LB or DB), if not more, than I do playing offense. Putting a smack on someone, or intercepting a pass, is more rewarding to me than playing defense in any other football game ever made.
And for the record -- I've been crazy busy at work this week and still haven't been able to try the patch. I'm going to be able to get a lot of time in with it this weekend, though.

Yes I played about an hour of tackle alley before the patch after I saw your message. My biggest gripe is the passing game, I feel locked into one receiver, if I don't change my read pre-snap I never have time to switch to a new guy.
I think defense is good for what it is, it feels really satisfying to intercept a pass. But i have no issue in the EA game of being in control and in BB if I want to be in on the action and I switch it's disorienting.
I'll keep trying it here and there, but I don't see myself playing a season or anything. It's not a bad game, it's better then I expected but I need a balance between fun and realism and to me BB is missing the fun. I fully admit it could do with my age and not wanting (or having) the time to put into learning how to play this game better.

I can't verify this at all because I don't have the game, but a NeoGaf poster posted this warning:
'Big thing to take notice of.
The patch has broken the custom team option completely. Any team you edit will totally f*ck up the rosters and ratings of the other teams.
If you download an NFL roster (or even create your own), do not go into the custom team option for any reason at all. If you make even one minor change (like a color) all of your teams will be screwed up.
This applies to both the PS3 and 360 version (although a bit less for the 360 since the PC editor can fix the roster errors, just not uniforms).
As for the patch, I love it. Makes the game so much better (minus this custom team issue).'
While I like the update, I just think it puts too much emphasis on a passing game. I have zero problems with the passing game. I think receivers should catch more balls than they drop but I think it's handled visually where you don't think you are getting cheated.
But the lack of a run game by the CPU just cuts across the engine. Part of the problem is tackling and how arm tackles can bring down a guy.
The other part is that the DL gets off the line too quickly and can get into the back field so early. This should only happen if a DL gets off a perfect jump not because the OL do not have time to react.
On the flip side, teams have personality like I've never seen in football. If the team says they are a run-stopping team, they will stop the run. Usually to the tune of less than 25 yards a game.
The game is close but the rushing game needs tweaking because right now it's a passing game where if a CPU runs the ball, that means it almost a waste of a down.
Took me a few games and a few days to adjust to the changes and warm up to the patch. Just finished winning a great come from behind victory against another good player online.
My team of Steeler greats was host to his '91 Eagles squad, and they jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead. Randall Cunningham was on fire and my offense just couldn't get anything going. Finally, my defense started playing tough and my offense scored 2 TDs -- the second right before the half -- and we had ourselves a ballgame at 21-14 and me getting the ball to start the 3rd quarter.
My drive stalled with me in FG range, cutting his lead to 21-17. Bradshaw to Cunningham in the 4th gave me a hard fought 24-21 lead and a late drive of his ended with a pick by Donnie Shell preserving the Steelers' victory. One of the most fun games of football I've ever played.
Right now, to me, the game seems EXTREMELY well balanced. Like most people, I had issues initially with dropped passes after the patch, but then I learned you just need to hold down RT as the ball is heading to the WR and pull down on the right stick to make the catch and that issue has been eliminated. I can only guess the devs wanted to give more user control and that this is how they reward you, by having the drops otherwise.
I was also having problems getting my running game going since they turned down the effectiveness of the spin move with the patch. My outside running game is still working great (love running stretch plays, counters, traps, and tosses in this game), but it wasn't until I started tapping the X button that I started having success again with my inside running game. With all of the new plays the patch added, it's also taken me a few games to better know how to put together a few plays to help set up my inside running game. Now it's all coming together for me, and it's really great stuff.
I'm thinking of picking this up, but I want to be sure I'll still be able to get custom teams with uniforms and logos and stuff. I'll probably get it on PS3, but will that be a problem over the 360?
My post-patch impressions summed up in four words; you can't fix stupid. Things are improved a bit but the AI is still terrible. I also must say that for as many cool highlights you see of the physics engine there are just as many, if not more, highlights that could be posted of terrible physics. The problem is you won't see those highlights because the 12000 people who bought the game are devout fans who won't show the bad. I routinely see guys barely getting touched dropping like sacks of potatoes. I also routinely see very unrealistic looking stuff and lots of ragdoll stuff that you would never see on a football field. Hell, even the juke moves are completely unrealistic. The only way to have any kind of success running involves timing your 2-foot jukes in the opposite directions and getting a tackler to dive and miss your player. You know, something you see during every single football game you have ever watched.
I don't doubt that you could have a lot of fun with this game if you only played multiplayer games but I just don't see how anybody who has even the most basic of knowledge of football could possibly be satisfied with this game as a single-player experience.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Wow...those are fighting words. I hate the game too, but calling anyone who likes it an idiot is a pretty sweet move.

I just got my copy and I really don't see the big fuss because this was basically a tackling demo with a football theme to it. I admire the devs for doing the right thing and trying to fix some of the complaints. I treat it as just another video game even if it doesn't get the X's and O's just right.
I finally got a chance to play a couple of quick (5 min quarter) games with the patch.
I appreciate the effort, but the execution is mixed. A coupe of the main issues are still there. Blocking on offense and during kicks is lacking. Tackling can still resemble touch football at times. The AI is still pretty ineffective on offense.
I understand that the dropped passes can be helped by pressing buttons, as can recovering during stumbles. I don't agree with adding even more complication to a game with a already steep learning curve. Sometimes less is more, and I'm at the point where I feel there is too much input required during play in order to get respectable results.
I really want to love this game, but I keep ending up with frustration after playing for a while. I was really hoping that they'd "get it" with the patch, but they still missed addressing some of the foundational issues while adding more "fluff" like more plays and controls.
Rodster wrote:How do you switch players while on defense before the snap?
Rod, it's like 2k used to be...hold one of the left triggers (I believe LT1 on the PS3) and it will zoom out to the coach cam, which allows you to switch between players by moving the stick in the direction of the player you want to control.

Have any of you successfully installed the NFL Rosters for BB?

Sorry, Rod...I know it can be done, since I play against guys using the NFL rosters online just about every night. But since I'm using a team of old Steelers that I created, I have no idea how it's done.
Alright here's my unbiased take on this game. If you don't take it too seriously it can be a hell of a lot of fun. It's been said before but boy how cool would Madden be with something that resembles the Euphoria physics engine?
I think the game has a lot going for it but if you're looking for a substitute or replacement for Madden you'll be disappointed. I'm new to the game so I suck but i'm playing the game in arcade mode and on easy and i'm having a lot of fun trying to stop the CPU. Running on both sides has been good since I can't stop the CPU just yet. The camera can be disorienting as others have mentioned. I still haven't figured out how to unfocus after the snap, so i'm constantly locked into a player.
All in all not a bad purchase for under $28, i've done a lot worse before.

Uh, where exactly did I call anyone who likes it an idiot? That's not even close to what I said or what I meant by what I said. What I meant was that anyone who knows the rules and basic strategies of football would have to overlook a lot to enjoy this game as a single-player experience. Quit putting words in my mouth.

I don't think there's as many AI problems as a balance problem.
The passing game is pretty good but the drops really take it down a notch.
The running game has a lot of potential but I think the ratings still give too much advantage to the defense.
I think the game is frustrating in it's current form it isn't balanced. There are things that need to fine-tuned like running into your oline. The premise of getting things right is there but it's going to take more than one release to do it.
Anyway, I just tested out the game playing 11 gold star offensive players and 1 for the defense on hard. The CPU plays better and is downright tough but the offense on both sides are overmatched. The only problem is strength can't over-power the defense. If a team is playing smashmouth football (one of the team traits) that should bowl over the defense.
I don't think we'll see a second patch but who knows with this team. At the very least you have to give them credit the patch and for taking on EA.
