Supposedly the commentary will be more dynamic in the release version;not enough room on demo according to devs.

Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
I've been reading a lot of people not liking the commentary, stating that Gus is too over the top. People have moaned and groaned for years to get some life in the commentary and then when they do people complain that it's too much.
If you've heard Gus Johnson do a real game you'll know that every play sounds like the one that just won the Super Bowl. That's his deal, that's who he is.

Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
to be honest, Visual Concepts had MUCH better commentary in NFL 2k. The very first football title, on the Dreamcast. Fast-forward to the year 2010, and i don't think it's too much to ask for sharp commentary from a football title. Do you know what i want from commentary in a football title? Commentary which mimics a TV-broadcast. And in their NFL offerings, Triburon/EA has always been very lackluster in this department.Wilk5280 wrote:I've been reading a lot of people not liking the commentary, stating that Gus is too over the top. in fairness, overall i am enjoying the gameplay/animations/graphics via this new Madden demo.

Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
Both NCAA and Madden lack one key element that have made the commentary on other sportsgames better. There is no banter between the two commentators. They should have sat Gus Johnson down with Collinsworth and recorded some football discussions that could be used during the course of the games. At this point, that should be a standard feature of sports games.
Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
Murph: definitely. The commentary in NCAA Football has been solid for a while. No complaints.Murph wrote:Nessler and Herbstreit are prety smooth though.vinny-b wrote:to be honest, Visual Concepts had MUCH better commentary in NFL 2k. But it's starting to show it's age. They started using that crew back with NCAA Football 2001 (PS2).vinny-b wrote: Murph: definitely. The commentary in NCAA Football has been solid for a while. No complaints.
Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
for veteran players of NCAA, you may be right. MLB The Show, may be an accurate comparison. A solid announcing team and dialog, yet relatively unchanged year-to-year. Either way, having not purchased a NCAA title in several years, the announcing and presentation is dynamic/fresh for me. I only wish they would incorporate my all-time fave football announcer (Brent Musburger) in at least a few gamesRodster wrote:But it's starting to show it's age. Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
They've had banter in madden but it sounds so so staged it doesn't sound natural. Sometimes it's just better to play with the sound off and turn on some music thru the 360 or your radio. That's what I do.
Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
One longtime quirk of Madden, for me has been how 4-6 yard runs don't feel like an accomplishment. Either the DL comes off their block very quickly and stuffs you, or the LB is in a blitz in the rushing lane for the stop, or the hole is there and you get the yards. I wish they had done more of the linemen pushing in BB. That's really my only gripe with the running game.
In the past, I tended to ignore the blockers and just run to open space. This time, it does pay to stay very close to the lineman. That's a positive.
I believe they unbalanced the demo so that passing is easy to show off the game. Because it will need to be tweaked if there isn't changes in the final version. I've had 28-21 points scored in the first half a few times all because of long bombs.

The best 'banter' in a sports game has to be MLB2k10...

That's your opinion, personally I hated those guys. It sounded smoother for sure, but the two voice actors and the written commentary I didn't like at all.vinny-b wrote: to be honest, Visual Concepts had MUCH better commentary in NFL 2k.

I also enjoyed the banter in NFL2K5 but like Teal said the current best is in MLB2K10, that crew sounds sooo smooth.
I give the Gus Johnson and Chris Collingsworth another try with the final product but if it comes close to the demo i'll just play with no commentary. Bring back the Radio Guy !

Re: Madden 11 Demo Impressions
then i take it you also hated the long-time ESPN Sunday Night Football telecast consisting of Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire, at the time. Because that's exactly what the Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe team sounded like.Danimal wrote:That's your opinion, personally I hated those guys. Couldn't stand Maguire, honestly don't even remember the other guy.
Personally I love Gus Johnson, the commentator is not the issue with Madden. The way the audio is spliced together is not good, and frankly the written scripts are not good either. But for energy level I love Gus. To each their own.

They still have that deal going. I used a 20 credit from Red Dead Redemption for Madden and will use the 20 from Madden for NHL, no tax and free release day shipping with Amazon Prime is the perfect deal for me.greggsand wrote:Amazon had a preorder deal where you get $20 game credit to your next game purchase.MizzouRah wrote:Any good Madden 11 deals out there?

Mizz, you might want to check with Gamestop and see if they're still doing the $40 trade in of Madden 10 for Madden 11. That's what I did, I traded M10 towards M11 after the NFL was already over.MizzouRah wrote:Any good Madden 11 deals out there?

Gamestop is offering $3 for M10. No dice.
