Zepp,
Blue arrows.. yes.
I've also been burning through the games in my ML. I'm week 28 and started my ML a few days ago. I started my ML with Vittese from the Dutch League, a lower rated team (2.5 in Fifa) and am struggling big time. I've won six games, have never scored more than 2 goals and often times get shut out. I'm playing on 10 minute halves and if I get 6 shots total my guys overachieved. I cannot out pace any defenders as they all seem to have 99 speed even though they are rated in the 70's..
It sounds as if you are having some problems getting past defenders. Me too. Let me know if you find anything that works. I also can't seem to break down the defense by playing the patience game either. Possessing the ball in the area, or even close is not an option for me. Maybe I suck, or maybe my team sucks, but defenders seem to fall from the sky the moment i'm within a few paces of the box, yet there are no obvious go to options.
Even with the struggles and frustrations, there is a very strange addiction to this game. Maybe it's the illusion that i'll eventually figure it out, or maybe it's the occasional thrill of beating Ajax 2-0 in a game where the little team played very well.. (that happened last night)
Then there are all the options for strategy and player cards..
You're right. I wish there was a way to upload our goals. For not scoring many goals, i've got a lot of replays of very memorable strikes. The moments this game can create does remind me of the glory days of WE9. I just wish it were better balanced.. Maybe it will come with more time spent playing, or maybe I should start playing with a better team.
One more thing. How are PK's on the PS3? I have no choice but to shoot down the middle because everything else goes flying wide. If anyone with the 360 version can offer me some help in this area (or any area) let me know. I'd also like to play a few games online if anyone is interested. I've played 3 so far and have been pleasantly surprised with the performance. One game had a few hints of lag, the other games were fine.

FIFA, I'm not really having problems creating chances or beating guys down the wings when I have the opportunity. One thing I didn't mention about the super-turbo touch is you can double tap the turbo button while running, or double tap the directional cntrol in the direction you are moving. Another way is to hold both R-side triggers down (the RT and the RB on the 360) and push the directional control at an angle to the direction you are running, and the player will do a super-turbo touch at a 22.5 degree angle. These are handy ways to let your player really stretch his legs and run full speed.
I create a lot more chances with these default stiffs than I have in past versions of the game. Moving the ball quickly, getting down the wings and crossng, early crosses (a lot of those), and quick passing or dribbling in the middle near the top of the box. I've scored a few real blasts from about 25 yds or so when they just dropped off and gave me room, and I blasted one from outsde the arc with Minanda that was first-timed off a nice layoff square pass through ball. I was stunned it went anywhere near the target, much less in the net!
If you hold no stick or trgger at all, your guy will shield the ball well from opposing players. If you hoof a long ball up field, you can use the super-cancel to get your guy off the rails to the ball and jostle with the opponent to win that ball. One-twos are killer to the defense. You can dial it up with the LB when you make the first pass, or you can tap the RB or RT, I can't remember in 360, immediately after you make a pass and that passer will run forward, ready for a return pass. One-twos are very useful to me near or in the box. But early crosses are probably my most common way to get good chances.
As to penalties, you want to be super, super short on buth the shoot button and the direction. If you hold either of them down too long, it'll be way off, so I just tap the shoot and the D-pad for the quickest instant, and the shot will go to one side or the other or towards a corner.
EDIT: You should also note that once in a game or prctice, if you pause, you can look at their extensve list of moves. Most of them are just combinations of D-pad moves, rather than the FIFA style, but there's a lot of useful stuff you can learn from that.
Also I love to go into training and then put only 5 or 6 defenders on the field. You can do that once in the 'game plan' menu by pressing Start to switch sides, then you can select the players in the lineup you want out on the pitch, from just one lone player to the full 10 field players (the goalie is always going to be out there). This is a great way to have a relaxed atmosphere for trying lots of different attack moves and dribbles and such. The one thing I wish they still had is that 'snap back' rewind feature, which let you retry a move or a shot over and over, but oh well. Maybe it's still in there somewhere, but I haven't found it. I also wish they would let you do tranin mode with your player-progressed ML team from within the ML, but since it tells me I can use my progressed ML team in other modes (whereas using the ML team online would be their default attributes), I think I could knock it around with my latest signings on the training pitch by isn't my ML data in the practice mode.

The first ML season is complete. The last match of the season was a battle between two teams fighting to stay in the top division of Dutch football. All we needed was a draw to stay up, a draw we couldn't find. After giving up an early goal it was an uphill battle to create opportunities. One glorious goal scoring chance came inside the box with barely minutes remaining. All alone my winger shanks it high over the bar. Down we go.
My record was 7-17-12. I only had 17 goals for.

So of course I've ended up drawing something like 6 games in a row now, most of them 0-0. I switched from 15 minute to the 10 minute setting to try to hurry through to the January transfer period, and it killed me. I'm going back to 15.
FIFA this is definitely a game where I get into ruts of bad play for extended periods. I notice I try to make the perfect goal, or seem to be tryng to pass it into the goal. I do better when I take shots quickly frm wherever I cam get a look, or try early crosses from app over the place rather than waiting for the strikers to get there. Early crosses are awesome in this game and work wonders to create chances, if not on the initial ball, then on the ensuing mess as the defender try to clear it.
I imagine that you aren't moving the ball quickly enough, are takin too many touches before passing, and trying to take set-up touches before shooting rather than shooting first-time or after one touch. I find myself doing that stuff all the time, and when I try to play quicker and take chances as they come rather than trying to create the perfect chance I seem to get better opportunities. Also I'd suggest the 15' setting.
As to my always down purple arrows problem, it looks like I need to play players once in a while to keep them happy if they aren't clearly outclassed by the starter in front of them. It's funny because I've always had a rule of never playing anyone with the down arrow, so I've just been making it worse and worse. Also maybe a better trainer would help there, too.

Zep.
The end of my season was horrid. I don't know if it was fatigue / unhappy players but just about everyone was a blue or purple arrow with around 10 matches left.
I'm now using the lineup assistant. That's pretty cool as you can sort by ability, form or a mixture of the two.
As for my attack. Early in the season I was getting more chances and those began to dwindle. I don't know if there is a AI learning aspect to the CPU where they adjust to your play style, but something happened and the attack became obsolete.
I agree with you about the crosses / early crosses. My goal now is to simply find a way to get the ball into the box. Due to the fact that the AI is so much faster (i'm not sure if you're seeing this on the PS3) a lot of times I can't even get a ball down the wings. That is the one thing that frustrates me the most.. the speed of the defenders.
I played a couple of games last night online. The second game I got blown out 5-0. The guy had more moves than Aurora Snow on an ecstasy bender.
As an experiment I started a ML with Fulham. The first game I had 14 shots, 10 on target. I still lost 1-0 but the chances were far more abundant with Fulham than with my Vitesse squad.

Moving the ball quickly is key in the game, it keeps the D honest but at the same time it seems to make the pace of the game that much quicker which I don't favor. Agree on the early mid-crosses, while your player may not necessarily reach the ball on time, it does cause the CPU to have rebounds here and there which you can take full advantage of.Zeppo wrote: Early crosses are awesome in this game and work wonders to create chances, if not on the initial ball, then on the ensuing mess as the defender try to clear it.
I had an international friendly last night between the Czech Republic and I think it's spelled Uzbekistan. Most of my games have been tied as yours, but I exploded for 3 goals in the 2nd half yesterday as the Czechs started to waste time on the possession of the ball, and I started to apply more pressure on them. Two crosses with timely headers and a juicy rebound later, I came back winning 3-1. A first one for me after being down early on the score with a lesser opponent.
Would like to see a bit more variety from the CPU on the scoring sheet though as most of the chances come via crosses as well.

You can find a new copy for under $30. While I've been critical of their lazy attitude towards making their product a better one the last couple of years as Fifa has improved with theirs, you will enjoy the 10 version, although you may find the overall tempo of the game on the quick side.MizzouRah wrote:I think I'm going to nab this today at Gamestop if I can find a used copy.
Couldn't find it, so I picked up a used copy of FIFA 10 and started be a pro mode.. it's been fun so far.10spro wrote:You can find a new copy for under $30. I'll keep my eyes peeled for PES 2010.

I'm only in my second season so I'm not much help there. I've only recently gotten back into it in a big way after not playing since, like, January.fsquid wrote:Anyone discovered any youth gems that come along in later seasons? I haven't found the Kaiser who Konami puts in the free agent pool in previous games.
I always like to add the classic players into my ML, but I don't know how to unlock them in this version (I seem to forget every year how to do it). Anyone know the answer?
Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Announced
I am 14 games into a master league with the PS2 version of PES.
I went the fantasy route and created FC San Diego and selected only members of Team USA on my team.
I am trying to add more through negotiations but I haven't been able to land Bradley, Findley or Edu.
Currently I am 6-4-4 plying on regular and it is a real challenge.
I am playing a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Also, I am in the semifinals of the World Cup with Team USA including two PK wins. Next up, Italy.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Announced
I'm thinking of getting the PS3 version of PES 2010 in time for the start of the new European football seasons.
What is the Option File situation like? I've read that you can't use files created for the UK version or the EU version. Have Konami kept the transfers fairly up to date if you don't use an Option file?

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Announced
So I got the last copy of PES 2010 for the PS3 at my local Best Buy last night, and I'm using this really good Option File which has the full MLS as well as updated World Cup teams.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Announced
I picked up a cheap copy myself, so thanks for that option file! So far, it's tough to switch back after a year of FIFA/World Cup, but I like the spacing, trapping and speed of it.

Presuming you´re talking about the 360, I loaded an option file using a usb pendrive. Think it became possible after a system update round about April.FifaInspected wrote:Ok.. can we do the option file thing via a usb drive.. similar to Backbreaker?

As for the latest and greatest, it probably depends on what you´re looking for. I think the best known option files are made by Daymos and Cowson. I installed version 1.5 and I found this link which gives a description and allows you to download version 2 (which apparently comes in two versions, so you can decide which you prefer):
http://www.dekazeta.net/foro/files/file ... n-file-v2/
Version 1.5 was compatible with the official Konami update featuring World Cup kits etc. so I guess this one is too.
One OF I downloaded but haven´t used is for the Copa Libertadores and is apparently based on the Daymos and Cowson file. The description and download link can be found here:
http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?t=74860
I'm not sure if an option file for the 2010/11 season is available. I guess it will be at some point.
The other thing I'm not sure about is whether these will work with the North American version of the game. Maybe somebody else round here can help you there.
As far as I know, there are loads of option files out there for the PS3.

It's not on PSN. I'm not sure what PSN+ is but I think that's their pay service.FifaInspected wrote:Just read over at PES that the PS3 demo has been released on PSN+. Have any of you played it?

Jrod it doesn't seem to be on PSN+ in North America. I decided to pony up for an account (about $4 a month so no biggie) but the demo doesn't seem to be there.
Best wishes,
