PES 2011

Post by Naples39 »

Some info beginning to come out, and sounds like some meaningful changes have actually been made.

Being an ex-PES fan boy, I'm all too used to the promises made by Konami that the latest iteration of Pro Evo will have 'massive changes' and see a 'huge overhaul' in its game play. I am also accustomed to the disappointment that ensues when you find out the only 'massive change' is a new menu system. So you can imagine my delight when sitting down to play PES 11 and finding it to be entirely different from any other Pro Evo game I've ever played.
I had to re-learn how to play the game, because the most notable difference is that passing system has been completely overhauled. It's a lot less automated than before and rather than tapping pass to ping the ball between players you'll need to manually control the direction and power for even the simplest pass.

While it takes a little getting used to, the result is much more versatile and logical step forward and enables you to be much more creative with the way you play. In previous PES games through-balls have been hit and miss, but that's all changed; now, threading through-balls between defenders is much more rewarding because if you control the angle and power of the shot correctly – something which takes only a little practice – you're able to play incisive passes that go exactly where you want them to.
I get a little concerned about total touch passing because simple short passes shouldn't be a test of joystick jockeying, but through balls sounds fun and it looks awesome in this video.

Graphics look better too.

I didn't play 09 much and skipped 10 entirely, but never been a huge FIFA fan so I will give this one a shot if reviews looks okay.

Seems like they've been going backwards ever since the PS2 versions, which I love. WE9LE (Korean Edition) was awesome. PES 2010 (U.S. Edition) was also a really good game.

Thanks for the link/vid, Naples. It's definitely looking better, the 360 passing and assigning 'skill' moves to buttons/mvmts looks promising. Hopefully they can pull it off.

So, does the fact they have the Cope Libertadores mean they've lost the Champions League? Does it also mean there will be full Brazillian, Argentinian, etc leagues, and even Mexican teams?

Most of that video makes me think 'OK I'm getting this right away,' but I am nervous about the 360º passing especially with the PS3 controller. If I'm using the stick, I'm using the 360 controller, but we all know the game is built for PS3 first, so who knows?

All the tactical stuff looks pretty cool, though. It does seem they've brought in a ton of new stuff, but maybe it's mostly window dressing. At least we can be thankful we in the NA market don't have to wait until February to find out for ourselves anymore.

Right?

I think they might still have the Champions League license because the newest iPhone PES game has the Champions and Europa League licenses (it's a pretty damn good game too).
