I don't mind the wind as I learn to adjust to it. If you wait it out sometimes, those windy conditions tend to decrease a bit, then I hit the shot. What I do find it challenging in this year' version is the putting. Three, two foot putters are not a given as I painfully learned last night.XXXIV wrote:Well. The verdicts are in. I only have one complaint. Drastic wind changes. Some shots it will from as low as 4 mph to 24 mph right after I hit the ball.
The fast greens I have learned to deal with by 3 putting them![]()
Anyway...this game gets a 8.5 outta 10 on the XXXIV scale of gaming goodness.

I would be more than happy to give you some playing tips if you wish. Ask away and I'll see if I can't help ya trim some strokes off....I play TOUR Pro exclusively and try to play every single TrueAim event in Live Tournaments I can play.

Good for you and I am glad there is finally at TW game that you find enjoyable. I am around if you need me and I believe I will be playing this version of Tiger far longer than past versions...and to the statement bolded above...as it should be!XXXIV wrote:Thank you sir. Here's a question. To compensate for the wind, do you guys adjust your aim, or do you rather try to draw or fade the ball "into the wind" to try to keep it straight? I often wonder what's better.
I really think they need to have a Nationwide type thing to build your character up though. I'm still only hitting my Driver 230 yards, and it's weird barely making the fairway on some holes, or playing a 500 yard par 4 knowing I have zero chance at birdie.
I also need to figure out how to read the lie better. I find on pitch shots around the green, the ball goes shooting off left or right, assuming because the ball was below or above my feet. Unless I'm doing something else wrong? Will a swing with bad tempo cause me to pull or push my pitches?

Always compensate for the wind as sidehill lies do have an impact, but the wind has typically more of an impact at the higher speeds.Gangrel wrote:Here's a question. In order to build some additional power into your Golfer, I recommend playing the Skills Challenges and applying XP to the Pwer attribute. Play the Skills Challenges in Beginner or Amateur mode if you want to be able to beat them quickly and add XP to your Golfer more quickly.
The way to read the lie on pitch shots is to select Chip, then bring the cursor as far back to your golfer as possible, then rotate the golfer around on his axis to get a better feel of what the lie is. I usually just hit the right bumper to adjust the camera to ground level and take it from there....

TW11 360 patch is out, but I am not sure what it fixes yet and not sure when the PS3 version will be out. PS3 users yesterday received the prompt to DL the PS3 Move functionality (275MB patch).
I do know that the option to turn off the blue trail for the golf ball while using TrueAim is not user selectable. As soon as I see a list of patch fixes, I will post them here.

OK, after spending some time with the TW full game, I am pretty underwhelmed. Yes, the True Aim feature is nice, but it's not a game changer IMO. I think I am just bored with the basic TW gameplay mechanics that haven't changed much in the last 5 or so years. The game just isn't compelling to me at all anymore. They still don't have the putting down yet IMO (it's just not smooth enough) and ball physics are still wacky at times. The commentary is so annoying, you end up turning it off. Maybe if I played mostly online against friends it would be more fun, but the single player game is a snoozer for me. Yes, they did make some improvements over last year's game, but to me it's still "same old, same old". Good for a couple weeks, but if you are like me, you will get bored with it quickly and move on to other games.
Yet another sports game with disappointing early sales. It will be interesting to see whether NCAA and/or Madden are able to buck the trend:
"Last month it was UFC 2010 Undisputed that came in with an unprecedented 59% year-over-year sales drop for the first month. In June it was the Tiger Woods franchise that experienced a huge sales decline, though the reasoning behind the decrease for both games would be completely different. While we don’t have the exact sales number Tiger Woods 11 (Wii) did not chart in the top 10 while last year it placed fourth with 272K. Going by the numbers that have been released for the games in the top 10 that means the Wii version of Tiger is down in the range of 40-50%."

I'm sure the overall "souring" of the TW "brand" has effected sales in a pretty significant way. That and the fact that in a slow economy, many folks don't feel like shelling out $60 for a game that is pretty much like the one they already may have from last year.GTHobbes wrote:Yet another sports game with disappointing early sales. Interesting that EA would point to Tiger's recent play as contributing to sales going off the cliff (as opposed to people being put off by the $10/DLC or the "sameness" of the game).
Re: Re:
This has been picked up by the non-gaming media as well. I have absolutely no way to verify this, but I wonder if it isn't attributable more to last year's Wii success than Tiger's personal problems. I don't see a real reason to upgrade a golf game from year to year, with no rosters etc. So if the Wii market, which bought last year's game in droves, doesn't want to upgrade, that's going to hurt sales.GTHobbes wrote:According to this article, the sales for TW11 are down almost 70% compared to last year.JackB1 wrote: I'm sure the overall "souring" of the TW "brand" has effected sales in a pretty significant way. It's funny, but I bought the 360 version specifically because I'm still happy with last year's Wii game. They're two distinct games IMO.

Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
I think it has more to do with the economy and yearly updates. I'm mean the difference between TW 10 and TW were a few new courses and gameplay tweaking that's $60 bucks right there.
If Tiger is to blame for one thing is not being on the Tour on a regular basis and not performing and dominating when he's out on the Tour. Last year I just bought TW 10 (Wii) and this year I bought TW 11 (360/Wii).

The only reason I got this year's game is the upcoming Move functionality. If not for that I would have passed.

Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
For me it was definitely the 'I don't need this many of the same game' fatigue, definitely. In addition to TW and the previously mentioned UFC, sales for Skate 3 and Rock Band : Green Day were also pretty poor.
Personally, I don't need yearly updates for Golf, Ultimate Fighting or Skateboarding, unless we're talking drastically different/upgraded gameplay, here, and everyone knows how saturated the music game market is right now. I wouldn't be surprised if many others felt similarly.
I also agree that many of the Wii buyers are not the types to be lining up every year, though all versions were down.

Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
I can definitely see some casual buyers passing on this years game based on his damaged image. That number would be limited i think though.
Personally i bought TW10 for Wii because of Wii motion+ and didn't see anything new in 11 to interest me. Truthfully, i have a new gaming capable laptop and I am happier playing TW08 with mouse truswing and dozens of user made courses than any experience I have had with 360 or Wii editions.

Re: Re:
If you would look at the numbers, the Wii version is the one that is pulling all TW11 numbers down. TW10 for Wii had the M+ bundle for $59.99 last year. They sold 250,000 copies in the same timeframe last year. This year they have sold just under 42,000 copies or an 80%+ drop and TW11 for Wii is significantly better than TW10 and appeals to the family market more than the 360/PS3 versions with discgolf and putt-putt golf. So this has little to do with the "sameness" or $10 DLC (which does not impact Wii sales) as it does other factors. By contrast, the PS3/360 numbers are off about 28% from TW10 sales cumulatively.....GTHobbes wrote:According to this article, the sales for TW11 are down almost 70% compared to last year.JackB1 wrote: I'm sure the overall "souring" of the TW "brand" has effected sales in a pretty significant way. Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
Pasta Padre has another new article up about this:
"Late last week NPD released the official sales numbers for June. Tiger Woods 11 saw a huge drop-off from what Tiger 10 sold in its first month. Given the numbers that were on hand I estimated that it had fallen in the 40-50% range. It turns out that the situation was even more dire than anticipated. Sales actually dropped 68% year-over-year for all formats combined while the Wii version specifically fell an almost unbelievable 86%. It went from 272K to 38K."
http://www.pastapadre.com/2010/07/19/ti ... ly-thought
Obviously, the Wii numbers are WAY down from last year. I don't know what the 360/PS3 numbers were for the 1st month, but none of the versions made the top 20 for June software sales. No matter how ya look at it, there's going to be big changes coming. That's just the way EA operates when it gets this kind of news.

Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
I chalk it up to "no major revisions" over Tigers escapades.
I think only hardcore players really notice the subtle things they've changed. I don't think a 9 year old cares about side hill lies, variable winds, or True Aim. Only geeks like us.
Until the next big thing comes along (Kinect maybe? or when Move comes out?) will it spike again.
Sometimes I long for the days when sports games came out "whenever", and you'd just get roster updates each year. I could handle a really kick ass version of Madden or NHL every two years if I could get downloadable rosters and uniform updates on the "off year". Heck, i'd even pay for them (a little).

Everyone is talking about a massive dropoff in Wii sales, but the 10 version was kind of unique being the first Motion+ title. That presumably would generate a one time spike in sales that can't be expected to repeat itself every year.
How do TW11 sales compare to 09? That might be a much more fair comparison for Wii versions.

Re: Tiger Woods 11 Discussion
I think the overall decrease in Tiger's image and appeal has a LOT to do with it. That coupled with the game's reputation for being pretty much the same game year in year out = low sales numbers. I think it's a pretty well know fact among gamers that this game changes very little from year to year and $60 during a slow economy, when last year's game can suffice, is a little tough to swallow. Hopefully this will get EA off their lazy @ss and maybe they will make some real improvements next year that really affect gameplay. And I'm not talking about 5,000 different noses for my gameface

Sales of TW10 xbox first 4 weeks = 214,354.GTHobbes wrote:I don't know what the 360/PS3 numbers were for the 1st month, but none of the versions made the top 20 for June software sales. Sales of TW11 xbox first 4 weeks = 134,043
Sales of TW10 PS3 first 4 weeks = 170,743
Sales of TW11 PS3 first 4 weeks = 122,812.
So cumulatively we get TW10 first 4 weeks =355,097
TW11 first 4 weeks = 256,855
28% drop year over year. Nothing as dramatic as the Wii numbers which completely astound me.
