Ok, whatever. You don't like it fine. I respect that. I do, but I also know it could be much better and they will continue to work on getting the little things right. IMO, this is THE best console version of TW I have ever played....
Just because it's the best TW game doesn't mean it's not an average game. It is the best TW game I have played but it still has so many shortcomings.
My complaint is that it's a patchwork golf game. You have challenges which are the same gameplay mode as in all TW games. This year they made it so you don't need to do that, but how fun is it to start a tour game hitting 220? Then the Ryder Cup where it feels tacked on. I don't think you even need to qualify for it in the Tour mode.
I guess I feel the game should offer more than it does for how long this game has been made. I'm not asking it to be the end-all simulation for golf nuts. But I do ask games to make me what to come back and play the game. I don't get the feeling with TW.
that's not what he said.DivotMaker wrote:No s*** jack...Beginner and Amateur are SUPPOSED to be easy to hit straight off the tee. That is by DESIGN to appeal the casual users.JackB1 wrote:

How? It's more than just a different camera view, it takes "Focus" totally out of the game. There is no shrinkable "aiming circle" (depending on how much "focus" you've accumulated) in True Aim. You have a chance of spraying the ball within the default random aiming circle that would be there if you weren't in True Aim mode. You can't see the size of that circle in True Aim mode, but it's there... believe me IT IS there!JackB1 wrote:How does "TrueAim" make the game harder? This was discussed previously. Since the game defaults to Beginner when you start the game, my comments stand. TOUR Pro hits easier with Beginner clubs. Any reviewer who does not get past the Beginner clubs and spends some real time with the game building up a character doesn't do any review justice, IMO. You are trying real hard to slam TW11 without having played as much as the typical reviewer, so why waste your time. Don't even rent the game jack since you are already predisposed to not liking it.JackB1 wrote:that's not what he said.DivotMaker wrote:No s*** jack...Beginner and Amateur are SUPPOSED to be easy to hit straight off the tee. I'm with Divot on this one. Who really cares how hard it is at the start of the game when I can enter a code that came free with the game and unlock a driver that gives you the option to make it too hard to hit it straight off the tee? I love this game on the course.
I think a lot of the review scores of 8's appropriately reflect that the game still lacks in presentation, options, and career mode. The tour/career mode issues are well documented since they've been the same problems for seemingly a decade.

Divot, ignore the guy man. It's obvious what he's doing. His opinions are based on a demo and a reviewer. I think anyone that can read can see how much fun many on this forum are having with the game.DivotMaker wrote:Since the game defaults to Beginner when you start the game, my comments stand. I couldn't agree more with this:

Just freaking enjoy them for what they are and when something stupid happens just laugh along with the videogame. It's less stressful that way.![]()

I am not going to comment anymore until I get the full game. I am basing too much of my opinion on the demo and that's probabaly not fair. I guess I just got tired of being disappointed year after year by this series and always hoping the "new and improved" version will be better. You can't blame me for being sceptical, but I will rserve judgement until I get my rental copy. Believe me Divot, I would love to have a TW game that doesn't bore me after 2 weeks.DivotMaker wrote: Since the game defaults to Beginner when you start the game, my comments stand. True Aim Weekly Tournament is now "Live"
EA Sports responded to a community request for a 72 hole, "Weekly" True Aim, Tour Pro, "Single Try", Live Tournament this morning. The tournament is listed under the "Weekly Tournaments" menu online. The venue for this one is Whistling Straights. EA Sports is trying to gauge public interest in a weekly True Aim tournament, so I'm hoping that we'll get some folks to turn out of this one.
I'm in next to last place right now after having fired an even par round. I three putted twice from inside 8 feet for birdie, and 4-putted from 31 feet after reaching a par 5 in two, for a bogey. It's a fun challenge though, I'm really going to enjoy this!
I'm quite disappointed in the low turnout for the Daily True Aim tournaments. I grossly misjudged the interest in such an event. I'm guessing the participation will more than double when Europe gets the game next month. The gamers there seem to be more inclined to go for competitions of this sort.

I made a comment about this last year. All you have to do is take a look at which tournaments are getting the most play and you'll see why EA is not going to make Tiger Woods an honest to goodness sim golf game. It's not what the market wants.
Realistic sports gamers are a niche market no matter how much the folks at OS think it's not so.

Actually, EA is really listening to the simulation users as they realize this is a market segment they have neglected and they are getting alot of good feedback and praise for increasing the challenge for hardcore simulation users with TW11. That being said, the complaints on the EA Tiger forums are 95% Amateur arcade users who care only that they can boost and spin the ball holing out 10-15 times per round. To them that is "fun". Their claim is that Focus has ruined all of this because now they have to actually conserve focus and strategize their way around the course. The gall of EA to actually make you use strategy and course management in a Golf game....Wilk5280 wrote:I made a comment about this last year. They could care less that the game is licensed with the PGA TOUR and that these arcade features have NO PLACE in any game licensed to represent the PGA TOUR. You can thank TW2003 and David Dimartini of EA for bringing that arcade crap to the TW franchise. I am pushing EA to continue to further separate the two versions, arcade and simulation so they continue to give simulation users more of what they want and let the arcade users play their game using 7 year old arcade features that have nothing to do with the game of Golf.

Here is a tip on playing Very Fast or Lightning Fast greens.....when lining up the putt, determine the speed of the putt first. If you have a 20' putt that is 4 " uphill, take 24 (length of the putt + the uphill 4") and multiply 24 times 60% which should give you a putt strength of about 14.4'. When putting uphill, round the strength up to 15', the opposite when putting downhill. Keep in mind this is for Very Fast or Lightning Fast greens....hope this helps some of you with the putting aspect of TW11 as this has worked for me.
This is why I have been saying for years on other forums is, I don't know why these companies like EA doesn't allow for Arcade and Simulation modes. They can include all the over the top stuff in arcade mode.DivotMaker wrote: Actually, EA is really listening to the simulation users as they realize this is a market segment they have neglected and they are getting alot of good feedback and praise for increasing the challenge for hardcore simulation users with TW11. They can have two menu picks one for arcade and one for simulation mode.

Well I got my full copy and am ready to dive in!
Divot (or anyone else)....would you be so kind as to suggest the best way to get started with this game, in order to give me a challenging (but not insanely difficult) experience? SHould I just create a golfer and start a career? Should I go thru the challenges? What do u recommend?
I promise to be TOTALLY honest when I give my assesment after a week or so

Jack,
There are hints all through this thread giving you tips on what to do. Since you are renting the game, I do not recommend creating a character instead playing with a Pro and if you find the game to your liking, then buy it and create a character, then go through the Skills Challenges to build your character up.

If I play with a Pro, won't them mean I will be hitting 300 yard drives out of the box?DivotMaker wrote:Jack,

Jack,
Here is what I would recommend, create a golfer but don't go to Tour Pro / Tru aim and then do the challenges. They will give you a decent ammount of points to get a competent golfer.
Then before starting your PGA season change the difficulty.
I went the hardest difficulty and true aim out of the box and it made all the challenges very hard except for the tier 1's in each category. Thus I had to plow through season events with no hopes of competiting just to get exp to bring my guy up to speed to do the challenges.

Well. The verdicts are in. The game is very good and Im very bad. I keep playing round after round and shooting well over par in every round. Its probably been over 30 rounds now and I have only broken par once. Maybe playing on the Tour Pro level just isnt for me at my advanced gaming age.
I only have one complaint. Drastic wind changes. Some shots it will from as low as 4 mph to 24 mph right after I hit the ball.
The fast greens I have learned to deal with by 3 putting them
Anyway...this game gets a 8.5 outta 10 on the XXXIV scale of gaming goodness.
